Drake - Doh! Someone figured me out ;) I don't understand what the Espo picture was all about, though.

watchmen - I think he was referring to the win in the big scheme of things. A D2 win is nice and impressive, but it doesn't count as far as region rankings or anything else at the end of the season.

If Henrichs can find some consistency in his game, SJU will be a tough out, especially at home. He's had some HUGE games (RE: @CAR as a frosh no one had ever heard of) but his numbers don't always reflect his talent. If SJU can get him going for 15 and 10 every night, they'll be that much tougher. That flex offense is a perfect setup for him.

Miggy - Last time I checked, De Nile was a river in Africa  :-*
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

No, the win over St. Cloud State doesn't count towards anything region record-wise, but it is a great confidence booster and that's also a helluva lot better than beating Martin Luther & Crown.....right, Bethel???!!!! ;)

Nice statement funballer.  I agree completely.  I don't know one team in the MIAC that wouldn't like to beat a Division II level program, let alone one like SCSU that has had a lot of success the past 5-10 years.  And for good meaure it was on the Huskies home floor.

I see that the Cobbers lost by 22 last night at MSU-Moorhead.  The statistics have Eckhoff and Linz combining to shoot 11 for 31 from the field, and Mr. Dixon was 0-3 with 3 rebounds and 2 turnovers in 23 minutes.

Happy Holidays to all.  ;D

That MSU-Moorhead win, especially by that margin, is impressive as I believe they have quite a number of new (Freshmen) on the squad. Don't know how much any of them are playing (haven't had time to check the box score), but don't think the Dragons are labeled as a "veteran" team this year.

Thought the Cobbers would give them a better game than that, although if it comes down to guard play, CU is very weak at that position and then throw in an off-night of shooting for Eckhoff & Linz equates to trouble.

sumander

MSUM has a couple of transfers that are seeing a lot of time. One of the transfers is from D-l Houston. Story in the Fargo Forum earlier this year said the kid got caught in a coaching change there and did not fit into the new coaches plans.

I don't think any of the true freshman they recruited are seeing significant playing time.

Well, I stay away from the board for a few days to spend some time with my family this weekend, and what happens? I get ripped a new one... >:(

First of all, TH4L, if you think my comment on Keating's raise the roof was out of line, way to tell me to "shut my pie hole." That's classy. All you had to do was say, "I disagree," and I would have moved on. But that's alright, I'll go on and study your past posts so as not to have differing opinions as you do.

Funballer, I apologize as to claiming that I didn't like Keating's raise the roof going into a timeout when he was up by thirty. (Oh yeah, he did that during a couple of timeouts.) I'm sorry, I didn't know that I couldn't give my own opinion. Forgive me, but I played ball on the Range, where if you pulled something like that, the out-of-season football player who was on the opposing team would come in and lay you out. I think it's too bad when players do things like that. A fist pump, okay I can deal with that. A yell or shout, okay. But raising the roof? Come on. That actually takes effort to say, "I'm going to take my focus off of the game and try to get a reaction from the crowd." I've never seen any of the players I've coached do that, and if I did, they would be sitting next to me.

Oh, and who said that I ever condoned any of those things when GAC did them?

Reporter: Charles, is there anything about the incident you regret?

Sir Charles: Yeah, that we weren't on a higher floor.

big_shocker

Oh, and when you think of St. Thomas, whose team do you think they are? When you think of UST, do you think of Keating?

Let's look at some stats...

POINTS: Keating- 9.8 ppg (4th on team)

REBOUNDS: Keating-4.5 rpg (3rd on team)

ASSISTS: Keating-3.3 apg (3rd on team)

BLOCKS: Keating-0.3 bpg (fourth on team)

STEALS: Keating-0.7 spg (fourth on team)

Oh yeah, those are the stats I think of when I see a star like some of you are saying Keating is. I know he's a good player. He was in high school. But you know what, I was good in high school too, and I never played varsity MIAC ball. He's a role player, and I never said he was a bad one.

Hey, lay off Mr. Wonka. The guy was a great MIAC player who played on some darn good GAC teams. They couldn't have gone as far as they did without him, and he played his part, as I'm sure Mr. Keating is playing his with UST.

Does vegas have odds on whether or not Keating will do the culpepper roll in the next game....mike tice would love it if Keating got his roll on because tice likes to see players have fun

Took in the Cobber-MSUM game last night.  Sumander was right, MSUM is led by a ton of transfers.  The kid he mentioned (Hensley) absolutely killed the Cobbers last night.  he put on an 8-0 run (two heavily contested 3's and an alley-oop dunk where the kid's biceps was even with the rim...very impressive.)   in hte last 1:30 of the first half to stretch the lead to about 13 or 15 at the half, and the rout was on.

Cobbers didn't help their cause much as they missed a lot of shots from 15 feet and in, and as the game went on the Cobbers got a little frustrated and  started to cast away from 3 point land.  Tough loss, but MSUM is super athletic this year, and also very good.

By the way Funbballer, CU is Concordia University in St. Paul while the MIAC has two "CCs" – Carleton College in Northfield & Concordia College in Moorhead.  FWIW, on the MIAC website they abbreviate Carleton as CAR & Concordia as CON.  Easy enough mistake to make when you consider there seems to be like a 100 Concordia's scattered across the country.  If Greg Sager comes strolling by I'd be willing to bet he'd let us know how many there might be.   ;)

Point of distinction, as far as I know, Cord in Moorhead is the only school that's affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America – ELCA, while the rest of the Concordia's are affiliated with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.

Back to basketball, interesting stat, Eckhoff goes 6-12 from behind the arc & an alarming 0-6 from inside the arc.  But in his defense & the rest of the Cobbs, I see that the MSUM Dragons blocked 9 shots in the game! This is the 1st game all season where I can recall he was 50% or better from deep.  Last year, he seemed to accomplish that on a fairly regular basis. Hopefully, the game against UM-Morris begins to turn things around for him as it appeared to do last year.  It looked like he got his FT thing together against the Gusties, the deep ball against Moorhead State, & hopefully his complete offensive repertoire begins to come together against Morris.

What really amazes me about Eckoff is how he gets off his shot. I hadnt seen him play and this year when they played at SJU was the first time i had seen his set shot. I dont understand how he manages to get it off with a man in his face all the time. I guess he does it enough because he scores alot. I will never know how he does it.

If any one is interested here is a link to the Fargo Forum article about Hensley form MSUM. He scored 101 points in a high school game in Houston.

Yep, DrakePalmer....I do know the differences, just made a mistake, although I had referred to the "Cobbers" earlier in same sentence. Thank you, though.

BShocker....you read as though you had a bad weekend, meaning no wine, sex or song??!! Certainly don't think I was "ripping you" regarding Keating's actions. I don't care for those type of antics myself and wouldn't allow it if I was coaching either. I was only stating that perhaps the Tommies were feeling good about the victory and showed a little emotion. I know that's frowned upon in this nice "church-going" conference but emotion is good. And on that note, I don't know if there's much difference between pumping a fist versus raising the roof? Would you approve if your buddy Wonka raised the roof as a demonstration of the Gusties pounding some team in a big victory? Or would you have one of your Ranger buddies summoned to beat the crap out of him too? (just kidding...lighten up, my friend!!)  ;)

Willy Wonka

funbb - I think BS's point was that Keating's actions were a look-at-me type thing whereas a quick fist pump would have served the same purpose and been less noteworthy. I could see it out of any of the big three, but it seemed a little Hoffarbor-ish -- waving his towel from the end of the bench -- to me :)

Is it January yet? With most teams either not playing or taking road trips for a holiday tourney, we're gonna be left to rehash the same worthless things for weeks. I'm not sure how long I can keep riling up the crowd to keep this board active :)

I'm with you Willy; I've also had enough of this pissing contest and would rather just talk some basketball, although we may have to talk Big Ten "stuff" until the MIAC gets rolling again!

And by the way, I'm told you are exactly the type of player most coaches would have wanted playing for them. The book is that you gave it your all every time your feet touched the floor and that's what made you a winner.  I'm not being sappy, just repeating and spillin' the truth. You're an example of why the Gusties won in the past, along with Espo and others.

And, I do believe that Michael Keating is much in that same mold. I'm actually very surprised he did the "raising the roof" antics....I wasn't there to see it, but I didn't think he was that way.
