Concordia pulling away at the end here. Cobbers have drained 13 threes and hamline struggles from the line once again

come see some Northwestern games during UMAC play, last year's Martin Luther game was 1700, another game was 1500 and so on.

1700 what?    :P
1700 more fans than the johnnie students could muster against mac.

other than AO---  WHO CARES?
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

First of all the game was at Mac...so getting 1700 Johnnies students down there would not have happened at all, maybe for a conference title game but probably not...

I guess Mac students had other things to do that night...

Chicago much better than the 0-7 record...real battle for J's tonight...Sunday night game probably means small crowd and weather in the St. Cloud area not helping

Later fellas...nice win for the Cobbs last night, much needed

I was over in Cheese land yesterday & took in the near upset by UW-River Falls over 3rd ranked UW-Platteville.  River Falls ended up losing in the last 3-4 minutes  of the game 67-62.   Very good ballgame, with good athletes, strong point guard play, athletic post players & solid defense.

River Falls has really improved from the first of the season & Platteville looked much more athletic from what I remembered of them from last season.  Their All American post Jeff Skemp is a real formidable inside threat,  but  River Fall's' soph 6-8 Wade Guerin did an excellent job defending him.  Unfortunately, because he was working so hard on shutting down Skemp in the post, he wasn't able to offer much help offensively, so the P-Ville defenders could lock down on the perimeter in the 2nd half.  P-Ville's 6-3 wing Charlie Lohoff deserved props for his game high 24 points (and looked alot like UST's Joe Scott in the way he drained clutch trey after clutch trey or basket), but I was nearly as impressed with Platteville's other guards - Curt Hanson, Nick Allen & others.  I think it was Allen, got beat on an overplay & UWRF's talented FY, Aaron Anderson was lining up to nail a triple, & Allen quickly recovered to come back, block the shot & kept the ball in play.  Very impressive! Reminded  me of another  Tommie noted for his defense - B.J. Viau.   Very good ballgame & from my limited perspective of the D3 world - best team I've seen this year. However, I think IF the Tommies bring their "A" game they could give the Pioneers a nice run.

**************

Seems like good defense might have been hit or miss in the other MIAC games of note -Augsburg's loss to them ( ;) ) 76-74, & the Pipes loss to the Cobbs 77-66.

In light of recent conversations we've had about 3-pt shooting here's an interesting excerpt from the Cobb website -

Key Stats: Concordia shot 50.0% (13-for-26) from 3-point range for the game. CC entered the game ninth in the MIAC in shooting from behind the arc. The Cobbers were only shooting 31.4% from long range and had only shot better than 37.0% from 3-point range once in the first seven games of the season. The 50.0% from behind the arc is a season high and the 13 made 3-point field goals ties the most by a Cobber team since 2003-04 season when made 15 shots from long range against Mayville State. Concordia also connected on 13 3-point attempts on Feb. 4, 2006 against Carleton.

As a team - Concordia shot 51.9% (28-for-54) from the floor for the game which was also a season high for the team.

An anomaly, bad defense, good karma, a sign of things to come from the Cobbs, tough luck for the Pipes, all of the above?

And in closing, I wasn't sure how to sign off my post so I'll include both endings.

In the biggest surprise of the day, Bethel University was able to overcome tremendous adversity & displayed great resilience in defeating North Central College 80-52.

OR,

As expected, Bethel had their way with North Central & won (yawn) handily, 80-52. ::) ;D

VOJ- do you know if the University of Chicago team is already up in in the St. Cloud area?  Sounds like you all might have a doozy up your direction.  It's been raining down here in the cities, & when the temps drop tonight & with the anticipated snowfall, we could have a real cluster on our hands for tomorrow morning's rush hour.

Hopefully, the Jay coaches are not letting the Johnnies get complacent, this is a very dangerous Chicago team.

Drake...

Not sure if the Maroons are in St. Cloud, they might operate out of the cities for this trip because tomorrow night they are at Carleton.

I suspect North Central was a bit worn out by a close game Friday night in Morris.  If you take a closer look at the stats, you'd find out that Bethel turned the ball over more, had fewer steals and blocks and shot 25 more free throws.   It's still a 30 point win, but North Central can put a better fight than you might think.  in reference to Bethel's scheduling, this year they dropped Crown from the Schedule after a couple of close games between the Storm and Royals. This year North Central beat Crown by 28.

I watched a lot of this game via the Carleton video stream, since my team (Illinois Wesleyan) gets Chicago Friday.  Very nice job by the Carleton broadcast crew.

Talk about a snakebit team.  Chicago is a team that qualified for the NCAAs last season & was ranked 22nd in the 08-09 D3Hoops preseason poll.  Six of their losses have been by 3 points or less this season. At some point a team is gonna catch all kinds of hades from this club.

Cmob, Wabbit, bblover - where was Sutherland tonight? No mention of him in the game write up or in the box score.

I think Sutherland hurt his left shoulder. I'm not sure how bad it is but he went out of the game against St. Olaf. I'll see what I can dig up...
Well hell...
