Happy New Year to all...and belated Christmas wishes...may your 2009 be filled with joy & happiness, and may a MIAC team bring home the walnut & bronze in March!

Mose – based on your last post, it sounds like you might still be a bit giddy after last night's OT win.  You might want to take a dip in the Zero King for a couple of minutes to cool you off a tish.  Just a tish though.  ;D

DP, As I read that post I thought Mose might be getting just a little a head of himself considering the deep(?) playoff runs the T's have made the last three years.  ;)

After a horrendously busy month of work, Here's hoping things calm down a little in January!

Plus k to the usual suspects!

c'mon you two..."A MIAC team" means any of the 11 teams....and what's wrong with dreaming big? I'd love to see an all-MIAC title game in Salem, although it is extremely unlikely the NCAA would ever put teams in the bracket in such a way that this could happen.. and then the MIAC would need to improve on its post-season showing. Other than GAC in the Final 4 once and Sweet 16 3 or 4 times, and UST in the Final 4 once & Sweet 16 twice, there hasn't been a deep run since....well, since before all the league members belonged to the NCAA (Hamline's appearances in the 70s don't carry much weight, as back then everyone wanted to get into the NAIA and the NCAA D-III dance was viewed as a consolation prize)

I learned a valuable lesson today-- never juggle your work schedule to allow for a lunch break to watch the Gophers.  Talk about playing f-l-a-t! But I do like the things Tubby's doing. Who knows? maybe they can be competitive in the Big 11 without a scandal (which reminds me-- is the gym at C-StP named after the late great tower of academia, JAN Gangelhoff   ;D )

So with one nonconference game left on the slate in mid February between Hamline & D2 UND, the MIAC's overall nonconference record drops to 26-27.

I believe that it's actually Hamline vs. D1 UND

Speaking of non conference games...the final of the streak game is posted on the pickem board.  And we'll be jumping right into regular season games in the confidence game.  If you aren't playing and still want to, just post in the pickem board and you're in.

sounds like sutherland might be out for the season for the knights...atleast that is the word i heard from big bird

as far as the gophers go...they have a nice chance to bounce back if they can pull out a victory over ohio state on saturday

ralphy needs to get some meat on his bones and the gophers are sorely missing an athletic wing that can make things happen on the offensive end of the court...hopefully RW Jr can provide a boost in that area next season

Wow that would be a tough development for the Knights to lose Sutherland, I would think that would make it a little easier to defend Zorro and I think Sutherland was one of their best defenders and was among team leaders in blocks.

J's try to keep it going tomorrow, SMU has a game under their belts already in the 2nd half, could be an advantage for them.

MIACLost Prophet or anyone else close to the Hamline program.  What's the status or extent of Tony Thrasher's injury? And where was Morrow & Van Ordstrand? I can't make my pickem selections without this tidbit of vital information.

It should also be pointed out that freshman mid-year transfer, Stoddard Barnhill, no longer captain-in-waiting of the All- MIAC Freshman All-Name team has joined the Piper's ranks. He had a decent debut the other night against UW-River Falls with 6 points on 3-4 FGA, 2 assists, 2 TOs, & 2 steals in 22 minutes.

TD - thanks for reminding me about UND.  Do you or anyone else know when they will become a full-fledged D1 member school?

Drake- 2008-09 is Year I of the transition period for N Dakota & S Dakota to D-I. I believe they are sidelined from post-season play until 2012-13 (NDSU & SDSU are eligible this year for the first time)

Drake- Barnhill was quite impressive the other night. I don't think those stats are completely accurate. I want to say he had at least 11 points. He is very quick and a nice complement to Hayes. As for Mr. Thrasher I cannot say. I should know more when I make it down to Carlton tomorrow. It is a calf injury that he suffered during warmups of the River Falls game. That's a huge hit for the Pipers if he can't come back soon. I can't say for sure but Morrow is no longer on the team due to factors outside of basketball. Max was out due to illness. Hoping for the best for the Pipers, but they have played notoriously bad at Carlton the last few years

You beat me to it maniac. I would think that this would make recruiting extra hard for the already tough to recruit to UND. It has to be a tough sell a kid to live in Grand Forks for 4 years and not get to even have the possibility of playing in the post season until maybe the end of your career. I guess their facilities are a plus but not sure if I would want to make that sacrifice.

Pipes lose 82-66. Hard to win when your oppenent has a 19-1 run to end the first half and a 20-4 run to end the second.....ouch

Its like a ghost town in here...J's played well at times in the win over SMU, Will Wright continues to be a real talent but the player on the floor who got my attention was point guard Lukas Holland, very underrated for what he can do...

Nice road win for the Oles, that definitely got SJU's attention heading into their meeting tomorrow night...
