Piranhas:  Any of several tropical American freshwater fishes of the genus Serrasalmus that are voraciously carnivorous and often attack and destroy living animals. Also called caribe also called 2008-09 UST basketball team

Anyone headed to the Barn tonight to see the matchup with the Illini?  With trips to Michigan State and Ohio State up next its a must win...

1. Nicky P Nasty (Nick Punto...i call him Nicky P Nasty cuz we have a good vibe) just called me and he is very upset about your comparison of the pirahnas to the UST bball team...he has offerred me a 25lb bag of coffee beans to sabotage you...i told him you made an honest mistake and it wont happen again...he told me to warn you that if you do it again he will slide head first into your shins when you are not looking...BEWARE!!

8. I will be at the barn tonight and i will boooo and hissssssss the illinois team as then climb up on the floor of the barn...i have hired jesse venture to flex at them as they come up the tunnel

CM...we all enjoyed Ozzie's nickname for the Twins but I think it can be shared and if you have seen the Toms feast on an opponent you will see that they have earned the nickname...

Have fun at the Barn...hopefully Tubby's boys will be ready...Illinois is one of the most improved teams over last year...

Geez,  miss  a couple of days around here and all hell breaks loose, not really. Let 's take stock of what transpired.

1) Drake gets ripped for not revealing his identity.
2) Tom's continue their winning ways in comfortable fashion.
3) SMU plays another top top team close....but loses.
4) MAC just plain loses.

Seems like nothing changes.  ;)

Wonka, I like the blog. Keep it up, it's been bookmarked.
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

Honestly, my first thought when I read the definition was that you were talking about CMob chasing Boombalahties on his roller skates....  :-*   Okay, maybe not the destroy part....    8)

Thanks. I'm trying to fight through a swollen foot and some sweet meds to write a coherent new post right now. Hope to have it up before the Gophs start tonight...but I'm currently getting dumber by watching My Super Sweet 16...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Wonka getting under the skin of the Saint Mary's athletic director during a women's game? Like anyone would believe that, right? Anyway, enjoy my latest Musings.

And thanks to those who have humored me and clicked on my stupid ads. Only about 5,000 more clicks and I'll have this surgery paid off :P

Big MIAC (Minnesota) beats Big CCIW/WIAC (Wisconsin) 78-74 in OT.

If you're really looking for Big Ten bragging rights over the CCIW people who care about the D1 game (not all of us do; I certainly don't anymore), then hold off until the Gophers beat the Illini. (Northwestern doesn't count, of course.)

January 29, 2009:

Minnesota 59
Illinois 36

Yea, baby!  ;D ;D ;D

I think we need further research into that, since Wonka has actually seen CMob on his skates chucking down burgers...maybe he can catch up with a Boombalahty that has been pursued by CMob...

Big Saturday of Hoops fellas...Johnnies at St. Mary's...Auggies invade St. Olaf, Carleton at the rejuvenated Pipers, Concordia at Bethel(break out the shoulder pads for this one) and Mac gets the Toms at home...

Hey Cardinal supporters who post..I will be courside in Winona if you want to introduce yourself...

From the Blog comparing MIAC schools with Big Ten schools:
QuoteSaint Mary's (8th) — Indiana (11th)
Some interesting, talented players on both sides, but not enough to challenge quality clubs on a consistent basis. Both have struggled mightily in recent years with head cases and defections, but each fanbase remains cautiously optimistic with the addition of new coaches. How long will the honeymoons last?
and both have very strong basketball traditions.   NOT
Especially, as you point out in your previous comparison between SMU and GAC, SMU has a .257 winning percentage over the last 10 years.  I can't get past the traditions part to even look at personnel.  Indiana-GAC may be more appropriate.

QuoteSaint John's (6th) — Ohio State (6th)
Each school relies almost exclusively on youngsters. SJU's top three scorers are sophomores, while the Buckeyes are led by two sophomores and a freshman. That reliance has led to some shaky performances, but the future for each program appears bright. Will each coach stick around long enough to enjoy it? Jim Smith is in his 45th season and Thad Motta may look at a "bigger" opportunity after this year — Arizona or Georgia, perhaps?

Smitty will be there for years to come...Nice article Willy...Nites I think Willy is just comparing the Big 10 this year to this years MIAC...So the Indiana-SMU comparison with the new coaches is not totally off base...

The only changes I might have made is St. Olaf with Minnesota and Penn State and Auggy...irony that Koz used to coach at the U...otherwise great job...could have put MAC and Indiana together for their struggles and Northwestern and St. Mary's who is starting to find a rhythm...

Perhaps you missed the disclaimer. It said "Deal with it" ;)

Not every comparison works well, obviously, but I thought it was still an interesting exercise. Take it with a grain of salt...and realize it occupied me for about 3 hours, which is great in my current state :)

Naw.  I saw the disclaimer.  I also read the part about awaiting feedback while you popped some more narcotics.   :)

By the way, what did you do to your foot?

The Hoosiers were one of the toughest teams for me to classify. They have the most storied program in the league, but might be in the worst position of all the schools right now. If Bobby were still at IU, I could see the Hoosier/GAC comparison — Hanson is basically his mirror image, right? But Indiana has been in constant turmoil since Bobby got canned...and Hanson runs a pretty steady ship.

I broke my foot. The doctor called it "worse than the normal Jones fracture," for whatever that's worth. Got a plate and four screws yesterday, bringing my bodily total to 8 screws now. Is any non-tennis fan more excited than me about Nadal/Feddy playing for the title at 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning? I doubt it.

Guess you'll think twice before kicking the water cooler again. . . ;)

Mike Davis appeared to be a pretty classy guy.  IU was certainly better off with him than with Sampson.  Davis has done a decent job at UAB.

Eight screws? Plus a plate? For crying out loud, Candy Man, if they stuck a propeller up your butt you'd be a battleship. ;)
