1. i saw D.Jorge (D.George...i call him D.Jorge because he was smooth with the boombalahties) play a few times...that team was crazy...best i have ever seen in the MIAC

5. i have a bad feeling about the gopher game tomorrow against 300...they already had an epic battle with the Persians but i dont see that slowing them down...they are too physical for my gophers...but of course i hope i am wrong

7. horrible idea on my part to wait so long to read the board again...so much to read

63. i saw an old man motor boat a 45 year old boombalahty that was showing off her new pair of twins in colorado this past weekend in a restaurant right in front of me...later in the night i saw her at a bar...i called her out on it and she loved it...

84. ITS TACO TUESDAY!!!

189. i just want to dance!

I will agree with VOJ that the STO/SJU game still has importance. I would agree the "lustre"would be off if schedules were equal for the balance of the year, but I see STO's schedule for the rest of the year as being much easier.  Given the tail end schedule for each of these teams, it would not surprise me for STO to run the table on their last 3 (SMU/@MAC/@CORD) and SJU to could easily lose their last 3 (@manifesto inspired Hamline, @UST, GAC). I'm not saying this is going to happen, but if I'm an SJU fan I would not want STO to head into the last 3 games within 3 games of the last playoff spot. Thus, a SJU win to take a 4 game lead has definite meaning,

Pops - your argument makes sense but if time & distance didn't matter tomorrow night which game would you check out: Bethel vs Hamline or St. Olaf vs. St. Johns?

For my money, I still think the greater entertainment value is the game in Arden Hills. Plus, I could sit directly behind the Hamline bench & could have the opportunity to hear the Admiral engage in some pleasantries with the refs.  ;D

Ok let me get this straight...the Dickie V of this board has an opportunity to for roughly 2 hours of opinion spouting...and he would rather watch a game that has little balance on the league title or playoff run?   :o ;D

Tell you what Shadow, er Drake...the Js play at Ham on VALENTINES DAY...I am sure there will be lots of love in the air for you to admire that day... ::) :D

By the way you would only be referred to as Drake Palmer not your given name of _____

so i showed up at 5 for a 7:15 high school game thinking I might get a pretty good seat only to find that I couldn't even get a ticket.  if anyone's reading the board in the next hour or so they can do like me and watch it online at www.twelve.tv  The new gophs, White and Williams are crazy athletes.

Although I think the SJU/STO game COULD (although I agree not likely) have an impact on the final playoff spot, I would not choose to attend this game for entertainment value. Even competitive games at STO typically end up being low scoring defensive battles, and though I personally like Coach Koz, their style can be "ugly" to watch. Another factor is that they have an excellent video webcast which has saved me any potential trips to Northfield this year :).

I also arrived at Cooper last night around 5, but had an advance ticket so was able to catch the action  live. Arriving early turned out to be a good move, as the sophomore game (2 VERY good teams) went into double OT and was one of the most entertaining games I have seen this year. This could evolve into a nice non-conference rivalry over the next few years. In the main game, Hopkins just had too much firepower and depth for Cooper. IMO this Hopkins squad is likely "best ever" H.S. squad from MN. In the battle of the future gophers, Rouyce White is a much better overall player right now, but Rodney Williams Jr's high flying act is as entertaining as you can find on the MN high school. He was boxed out on a couple of ally oops and just went up over guys for crazy dunks.

Voj - so did you read what Pops had to say about the entertainment value of the SJU-STO Game?  I also agree about the webcast option that both St. Olaf & Carleton have.  Nice features.  I was able to watch the Carleton–Olaf game the other night on the Carleton webcast from the comforts of my home.  I think the Knights had their regular radio guy doing the webcast rather than the usual student broadcasters.  Talk about a "homer" radio announcer – but it was entertaining to listen to him.  ;)

And by the way, last night I ran into a Tommie fan who happens to lurk on the board a bit & they said something to the effect  of- "Some teams view a matchup with the 7th place team as a "huge" game while other teams wonder "will we make it to Salem?" Sounds like a once-proud program is now excited about holding onto the final playoff spot." I had to chuckle a time or two after that snarky comment. I'm not sure yet, but as of now I'm considering making the drive over to dairyland to watch #3 ranked Stevens Point play UW-Stout, or watch the Bethel Hamline game.

HS hoops:

I went to the Hopkins Sibley game a few weeks back & that was a packed, madhouse also.  It would be interesting to see Sibley play Cooper.

Phoops – what do you think about Royce White's potential at the next level?  I'm wondering if he might be a step slow & and an inch or two short to be more than a solid, college D-1 basketball forward.  On the other hand if Rodney Williams can improve his handles & get more consistent on the J, I think he could really blossom -- Freakish athletic abilities.  Its' not going to happen but wouldn't it be great if a MIAC school could get a PG like Hopkins' Marcus Williams?  Stud PG.

Slow day in the MIAC neighborhood! Only two posts prior to noon. Can tell the season is winding down and there is not much buzz (yet?) about playoff spots!

DP, I think that would be an interesting trip. I am trying to convince daughter #2 that Stout would be a good school for her to attend. Give me a reason to make the 300 mile drive to take in such a game.  ;) She thinks she needs something a little more cosmopolitan than Menominee.

Speaking of Point, I see they are naming the court at the Quandt "Bennett" court, honoring Dick and Jack. I had an opportunity to wander around inside the Quandt this past fall when I was attending another sporting event in SP. You can feel the electricity in that place even when it's empty.

Sum – One of my goals this year was to try & see the top couple of teams from the WIAC & so far I've only seen UW-Platteville. Tonight would give me a chance to see Stevens Point & on the 21st I would be able to see Whitewater.  I just dislike making the drive to River Falls, Menomonie, Northfield etc. on a weeknight.

The drive to Menomonie is fairly easy & is pretty much a straight shot out of the cities on Hwy 94.  I've done it for basketball about 5-6 times over the last couple of years.  Stout has a strong hospitality management program, technology related programs, & something you might be interested in - a golf course management program.  ;)

At the risk of sounding like a shill for UW-River Falls, if your daughter is considering a WIAC school, River Falls might be a closer option to consider...provided they have the programs she's interested in.   I'm not as familiar with the programs at River falls but I believe it started out as more of an agricultural & liberal arts/teachers' college.  UWRF has a definite rural, small country, college town feel to it, but its' only 30-35 minutes away from the bright lights of the cities. No St.Bens, or possible UST in her future?

I saw some video highlights online of Hopkins/Cooper last night. The Royals look like men playing against boys when they face any team in the state. They beat the No. 3 team by 22 last night, and they have 4-5 Division I players. I'd like to see them play Macalester, I think they'd wipe the floor with the Scots. I think they could give St. Mary's a good test too.

There's nobody in Minnesota who can pay with them, it's not even close. Maybe Sibley, but who knows.

She is looking at a bachelors degree in Fashion Merchandising (takes after Mrs. Sum). Stout has great textiles and fashion program.  UWRF doesn't have such a beast. Her Dream would be to go to New York for school!!

SDSU and a school out in Denver have similar programs. My guess is Denver will probably win out.

I can't think of the name of the college, but I believe there's a 4 year school down in Chicago that has a similar type of program.  A social acquaintance of mine has a daughter that attends school there & he refers to her as his little "Imelda" (Marcos).  Apparently her shoe fetish seems to know no limits.  ;)

Gustavus coaching legend Whitey Skoog is having his jersey retired by the Gophers Feb. 22 against Northwestern. A happy day for Gustie fans everywhere. Plus, I finally figured out how to allow comments. Yes, I'm a little slow...

Funny timing with the Quandt reference. I'll be posting another piece later tonight with a memory from there...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

WW, Looking forward to your piece on the Quandt. When SJU played there a couple of years ago it was a treat. Not for the J's especially, jsut to be in that palyoff setting there was cool.
