Sensei, What can you tell me about the Art Institute of Chicago, anything? looks like they have a fashion merchandising program.

At the risk of sounding like a shill for UW-River Falls, if your daughter is considering a WIAC school, River Falls might be a closer option to consider...provided they have the programs she's interested in.

No St.Bens, or possible UST in her future?

She is looking at a bachelors degree in Fashion Merchandising (takes after Mrs. Sum). Stout has great textiles and fashion program.  UWRF doesn't have such a beast. Her Dream would be to go to New York for school!!

SDSU and a school out in Denver have similar programs. My guess is Denver will probably win out.

I can't think of the name of the college, but I believe there's a 4 year school down in Chicago that has a similar type of program.  A social acquaintance of mine has a daughter that attends school there & he refers to her as his little "Imelda" (Marcos).  Apparently her shoe fetish seems to know no limits.  ;)

Columbia College, perhaps?

I just fired off an email to my friend, but Greg, I believe you're right- it's Columbia College

Another heavy hittter in this career field is Parsons College in New York & I want to say Rhode Island School of Art & Design. Spendy, spendy, spendy school from what I've been told.  I think David Byrne, former lead singer of 70s/80's art/rock band "Talking Heads" went to Rhode Island School of Art & Design.

We have two in spendy, spendy colleges! I was liking what I saw at Stout for numbers.  ;D

Didn't see a Fashion Merchandising degree at Columbia College.

No, the Art Institute of Chicago is the city's major art museum. It has an attached college, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, but it's strictly for high-arts types (painters, sculptors, photographers, etc.). You have to have amassed a serious portfolio in high school to get into SAIC, and a year's tuition there will set your parents back $47,000 (my cousin's kid just got accepted there).

You're probably thinking of the Illinois Institute of Art in Chicago, which is more industrial- and retail-oriented (e.g., fashion merchandising).

David Byrne, Chris Frantz, and Tina Weymouth all attended Rhode Island School of Design. Byrne and Frantz formed their first band at RISD.

Dp, That sounds like more of the technical side than she is interested in. She doesn't care how to make the clothes she just likes buying and wearing them.  ;D

Thanks Greg. I think you are spot on with your assessment. What kind of reputation does the latter school have?

Her # 1 Choice is FIT in New York! Another $47-50K / year school. Ouch.

ALERT: Regional rankings released
West
1. UW-Stevens Point 17-2 16-2
2. St. Thomas 19-0 18-0
3. UW-Platteville 18-2 13-2
4. Puget Sound 17-2 14-0
5. UW-Whitewater 17-3 16-3
6. Buena Vista 18-2 15-2
7. Whitworth 15-4 13-4
8. Bethel 15-4 13-4

With Bethel ranked 8th in the west in the first regional rankings, what are the chances of two teams from the MIAC getting into the DIII playoff's?

IMO, The only way BET gets a bid is if it finishes in solo second in the regular season and then either beats or narrowly loses to the Tomcats in the MIAC championship.

Dunno. I've never known anyone who's attended it, and fashion's not one of my areas of expertise.

However, just going on how the school and others like it are marketed online, a lot of the schools that focus upon the retail aspects of fashion seem to be proprietary schools, akin to the schools that advertise on TV and teach computer technology, paralegal courses, medical assistant courses, etc.

Mr. Ypsi

The 'obvious' way for the MIAC to have two tourny teams is for someone to upset the Tommies in the conference tourny.

Alright- enough of all this Vogue & Glamour fashion talk.    :)

Hmmptt.  With Stevens Point getting the 1st week nod over the Tommies in the regional rankings, now I might have to check them out tonight.  It's just too bad they're playing UW-Stout.  Stout has really struggled this year, although I did see their OT game against Buena Vista earlier this season. I was very, very impressed with UW-Platteville.  The West is a rough region.

The only real chance, like was said previously, is if St. Thomas gets knocked off in the tourney or the ranked teams ahead of Bethel start dropping like flies (and Bethel doesn't lose again before the conference tourney).  The way the Pool C teams are picked is that the highest regionally ranked teams from each region are compared with each other.  As soon as one team is picked, the next team from that region is weighed vs. the highest regionally ranked teams from each of the other regions.  That is why it is so important for a team to be high in the regional rankings... if there are other West region teams ahead of them in the final (unreleased) regional rankings, it takes, at the minimum, that many bids away and thus opportunities for Bethel to strut their stuff and be looked at.

Teams have gotten in a pool C bid with 7 regional losses before, but it is a rare occurrence and they need to have lots of other things going for them to beat out teams with fewer regional losses, the least of which is very few upsets of Pool C locks across the country.

DD,
I have always been a big fan of Royce White's game and feel he will do well at the next level. He has all the tools to be a solid 3 man and is physically strong enough to swing down to be an occasional  "small" 4 man. I really like his mid-range game, which is non-existent for many D1 recruits that like to either dunk or shoot 3's. He is also showing to be a very unselfish player, so I think he will will thrive under Tubby's system.

AO
I hate to break the news to you, but Hopkins would put a hurt on more than MAC and St. Mary's. UST is the only MIAC team that I could see even competing with this talent. Even though they are younger, we are talking about talent, size, speed and quickness that  is on another level. The Gophers are the only college team in MN that I would "expect" to win against this talented Hopkins squad. Believe me, I'm from Minnetonka and hate to talk up a rival like this, but they are THAT good.

I'm a Highland Park grad, so mind my stupidness. Who puts out the regional rankings? Obviously not D3Hoops.com? How is the No. 1 team in the country second in its region? SOS?

Regional rankings are NCAA - using the criteria by which they select tourney teams.
