Van Sickle is going NUTS right now. 22 points with 9 minutes to play. Is Madson allegedly guarding him?

GAC down 60-58, but was down 10+ earlier I believe.

Any other scores out there?
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

AO

Augsburg 70 Carleton 54

Tommies are up about 20 with 5min to play.

This weeks region rankings

West Region
1. St. Thomas 22-0 22-0
2. Puget Sound 21-2 18-0
3. UW-Whitewater 20-3 19-3
4. UW-Stevens Point 20-3 19-3
5. UW-Platteville 20-3 15-3
6. Buena Vista 22-2 19-2
7. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 16-6 14-4
8. Whitworth 18-5 16-5

Does not affect St. Thomas if they keep winning, but WW and Plt both lose tonight.  SP wins the conference outright, their 7th in 10 years.  Could very well have hosting implications because at least two of those teams will lose next week in the conference title and either SP or Plt will lose Saturday as they toss it up in SP.

Tommies whip St. John's 82-47. Doesn't get much more one-sided than that. I think everybody can calm down about the fear factor of UST not getting tested. They're coming out ready to play and doing what the No. 1 team in the nation should do: Win. Feel free to throw your pie at me later if they lose early in the NCAA tourney, but I don't see it happening. Just too good, too talented and they play well together.

PI,
I unfortunately have more than just basketball in my life lately. A serious gal, some transition at work and other things are taking up my time enough that I've seen very little MIAC hoops this year. I make that sound like it's a bad thing, but it's worth it.

As for AO, I refuse to respond or even acknowledge the ridiculous posts lately. They're not even worth the time it takes to type. Al McCoy is a good defender because he hustles and moves his feet to be in the right spot. His height is not a liability. Johnson is the MIAC MVP, and comparable to what WW said, it's not even a close race. The dude can score at will against any opponent in the league, although he struggled at Augsburg tonight. He's the most consistent player I've ever watched. If I need a guy to take a big shot in the playoffs, I choose him.

are my thoughts about mccoy that ridiculous or are you just lazy?  I've had my views confirmed through multiple people on here, Mccoy's not an mvp canidate, height is a liability on d, not all conference.  If you get the ball into a Moberg or a Skemp from platteville, what in the world does McCoy do?  perhaps more significant is the rebounding edge the big posts are going to have in the playoffs over the Tommies.  just because you can move your feet and put yourself in the right position(McCoy does), doesn't mean the rest of your team doesn't have to compensate for your lack of height.  Don't take it so hard, the tommies are killing teams.  I can only imagine how good it must feel to be a tommie tonight after absolutely obliterating the hated jays.

Cousin Ball: A secret agreement to let the player you're defending score at will if he/she does the same for you.

Van Sickle: 9/15 for season-high 27 points
Madson: 10/18 for 28 points

Sets up an interesting showdown Saturday between SJU and GAC to determine who's the biggest loser of the final two weeks.

Quote from: piperinsider on February 18, 2009, 07:14:20 PMTurned my ballot into Mose today for CSN post-season awards. No Gusties. And, no McCoy. I only say that because someone said he would be in the post-season awards.

I've gotta believe the CSN committee must be using some type of weighted ballot system for the awards.  I can't imagine the committee would seriously consider a vote from a panelist who hadn't seen all or most of the candidates play.   ;)

Dumb Drake.  He forgot Tommie students are notorious front runners & since they're now convinced the Tommies are going to win the league, they show up in droves for the UST- SJU game. When I couldn't find a parking spot in the usual lot, I knew I was in trouble.  Yup, no admission, even with a season pass & a call to the Pope.  ;)

So it was off to Si Melby for another yawner. Augsburg 70- Carleton 54.  My prediction:  if Augsburg ends up hosting a playoff game, one or both teams will end up stinking up the joint with their shooting.  Tonight it was Carleton's turn - they could not buy a basket.  More later....

Were you watching AO? Johnson had the steal, then Johnson turned it over because he was fouled from behind, no call, on the pass to Alm, Olson was fouled (taken to the ground) no call, it was a horrible sequence all around.
The refs tonight were horrible. They didn't call things that were clear fouls. Rosett went for a pump fake and can down right on top of the Auggie and no call. How do you miss that, no one else in the gym did. The refs didn't make or brake the game, but they didn't blow their whistle and it played a roll. Minus the 8 free throws by Aug on intentional fouls in the last 2 minutes, there was only 4 free throws shot all night by both teams. There were many more that should have been called.
Carleton lost because their guards were out played. They couldn't stop the drive. Then rather than go to their 2 scorers, Johnson and Rosett, they had players shooting threes that shouldn't be and they couldn't even hit rim. It was puzzling to watch, wondering what they were doing out there. Carleton has to start playing together and get things going again, otherwise, they won't make it far in the playoff.

Should be interesting Saturday. SJU vs GUS, loser takes 6th, winner could be 3rd. CAR vs BET, CAR wins there is a tie for second, BET wins they take 2nd. AUG should win, so they would await the CAR/BET match-up to determine their fate. Let the fun begin...again.

I can honestly say I didn't even know there were players in our league named Nate Alf and Jeff Frazee. I haven't seen a minute this year. But I was fair on my ballot (even though I sent into five days before it is due).

TH4L - transition at job? Explain via e-mail or something. BTW, you've seen more MIAC basketball than me this year. That doesn't mean I still don't talk the game like I do know.

Congrats to Papa Hoops, OAS, Denny15 and Macalester (missing any MAC posters from the past 6-7 years?) on a Detroit Lions-like season! Still got a great gym and facilities.

I second that. The gym and facilities are something ever college should have.

Looking around the websites about games and found an interesting fact from Carleton's website...
Zach Johnson...could become the first MIAC player to reach 2,000 points since Augsburg's Devean George did so 10 years ago (George scored 2,258 points in his career). Despite only 12 points tonight, but did get a double-double, he is only 13 points away.

Don't forget Denny's mom, who ripped TH4L a new one in the liquor store parking lot before the GAC/MAC title game a few years back :)

One stop shopping for MIAC recaps here...except Bethel doesn't have anything up yet. I'll get it updated ASAP since my life consists of sitting on the couch thinking of new ways to piss VOJ off right now ;)

Isn't the Carleton men's page your home page?

Wonka...you should track down Whit-dawg for a blog story. That or the d3 preseason basebal player of the year from Hamline. Seriously, he is going to be the first drafted Piper in any sport since 1976 or something.

Or focus on getting better for next Wednesday's Class A Girls' Hockey State Tourney - Northfield choked, paving the way for the surging Wingers!
