So much testosterone and violence. I am proposing an anchorman like death match in the snow.
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin' back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" .....Jesus Shuttlesworth

How about that sign saying "We want Mike Berken"? Coming into the opposing house and looking for one of the UST fans probably isn't the best idea.

Pretty sure you are Mike Berken....and if you are, you know why...

What makes you think I'm Mike Berken.  I'm not, but I do know him, and I witnessed him walk up to the kid with the sign, and the gustie wouldn't beleive that he actually was Mike Berken.  It made us all laugh.

I'm sorry, but Berken is such a tool I had to post that, otherwise I don't and won't. You can keep trash talking me now.   :-*

Sorry "I" got under youre guys' skin so much, just a little friendly trash talking that you guys took way to seriously ;)

Making excuses for the Gusties losing by 40 last night is absolutely ABSURD. I don't care how bad officiating is, and lord knows i've seen plenty of poorly called games in my day, it doesn't directly have an impact on a team getting blown out of the gym. Last I checked, it's the job of the players to adjust to how a game is being officiated. I won't dispute that UST might get a call or two playing at home, but it does no justice to the game's result. There's usually always an opportunity a team has in any situation to negate a questionable call.

UST came ready to play, Gustavus had a tough night for a class program. 21 turnovers at eight steals in UST's favor... It is what it is, great defense. 15 guys score, you win by 40 and your leading scorer gets 13? That's great team balance. 54 points off the bench, seriously? That is insane.

The Tommies were just better last night, can we all accept that and become fans when they get to the NCAAs? We've done it for everyone else when they won the MIAC. I even cheered for GAC when WW and his crew made their run.

Easy, big fella. The only one making excuses is AO. Keep things in perspective here.

Yea Tommy...step back, it was probably as impressive a performance as any I have ever witnessed down there, like Willy said, consider the source and as I have said numerous times here...get out there and represent the conference well...

Reminds me of a story from when Willy and his boys made their run.  The next year we faced Gustavus for the first time, I sat down to interview Coach Hanson and one of the first things I did was congratulate him on his run last year and it was great to see him represent the conference that way...his first comment was, do you really mean that?  I said yes, it  shows the country quality bball is played here and anyone who comes out of this conference should be respected.  I likened it to anyone who comes out of the MIAC in football, because of the runs that have been made by teams in the NCAA's you have to take notice, jeez they must be very good...

Go Tomcats!

It's nice to see the mighty purple served the hated Gusties in a way we were never able to ('03, '05  :'( ).  The Gusties should be hanging their heads, at least for a little bit.  If they aren't, then they don't care enough.

I like the atmosphere on this board now... it's getting a little chippy.  Although Holy Moses is right, current players shouldn't be posting.

On a lighter note, my Men's League team advanced in the playoffs last night.  I had a pretty nice game.  Chipped in 10 points, grabbed a couple boards, had some assists, and played pretty solid defense... so, uh... go me I guess.

Go Gophers!  Drive safe Minnesotans, it's ugly out there.

agreed-- Nice recap of the BU/Aug game, Drake. Rumor has it VOJ was there looking for you, ready to tear off your mask, like the Penguin unmasking Batman. Did you avoid his clutches?

Sorry Mose I was camped on my ass watching about 7 games last night...full court package on a Wednesday night is a beautiful thing...And since Augy lost, I am officially done with college hoops this season...still would love to come down for the title game but I don't see that happening do to my wife wanting to take "full" advantage of the first Saturday without hoops...

Anyone see the Tommie-Gustie game last night?

Yorkovich is probably the WORST official around. He's an arrogant, pompus little dick that makes every attempt to take over the game so he'll be noticed. He's absolutely terrible.

I'm not a GAC or UST fan, just went to watch. And also, his officiating had no affect on the game, it's just his arrogance that made me want to ring this guy's neck as he was calling every little ticky-tack foul and then calls a T on the Gustie bench "because one of the ass'ts was kneeling down and looking at him????"

I thought Combe did a fine job. Don't know the other guy.

I heard that Yorky's kid attends UST...can anyone confirm?  maybe there is some kind of game/tuition break?

TommieFan2012

Actually, he has 2 sons that go here, but from what I have seen, he has for the most part been a decent ref.

It seems like the snow storm has everyone hunkered down on the computer this afternoon. Nice cheap shot on the post play Mose. I don't think the flu was the problem for GAC post production last night Willie, unless that flu bug hits every time the Gusties play in St. Paul ??? ???

I wondered what caused all of this activity and feistiness.  Snow storm. . . hmmmm.  Gee, I'm sorry guys, it's 84 degrees today, but hey, I feel for you.   ;)

Question - Is a 40 point loss the worst loss in Gustavus history?  In Coach Hanson's career?  Say what  you will, but it's not all about the Gusties playing poorly.  They've had some up moments this year as well (like handing No. 9 Buena Vista one of its 2 losses on the year).  The Tommies are very good and last night they were very, very good.

Boy that sounds impartial...

So how does one get to be a ref in the MIAC anyway and does anyone watch over them to see how they are doing? Do they get graded at the end of the season?
Well hell...

Had to work the Uconn/Marquette game last night so I missed the Bethel boys move on to the championship game.

I hope everyone makes it to the game Saturday.  If it is anything close to the last one between the two teams it is well worth getting there early for a good seat.

2012/Berken you are not a very intelligent person(insert standard UST joke from a SJU football poster here).  I for once in my posting life wouldn't mind TDT or KiltedRat being around to help me out  :)

Oh and for the record I like and respect most every UST poster and wish your team the best regardless of Saturdays outcome

PaBegg, Little tiff over on the West board. What are Bethel's chances of a pool C. Bid?

Negligible.

While they might be on the national board early, I can't see the case for selecting them.

They haven't beaten anyone in contention, as they're 0-2 vs. St. Thomas (and would be 0-3 as a Pool C contender). It's hard to see them picked over a team like DePauw, who's 15-5 and 2-1 vs. ranked teams.

welcome to the Board, TommieFan2012

Where are all the Bethel posters? This is the closest they've been to the NCAAs in 18 year, you'd think they'd be popping out of the woodwork.

Historical notes (surprise)-- BU has won the playoffs once, back in 1991 when it was a 4-team affair. They beat UST in the semis and GAC in the championship game. It was their only appearance in the NCAA. BU is the only school that has not won the MIAC regular season title. UST is going for its fourth straight Playoff title and its ninth Playoff championship. No team has ever won 4 Playoff championships in a row. UST (1993-95), GAC (2003-05) and UST (2006-2008) have won 3 in a row. GAC has 9 championships, UST has 8, SJU 5 and Bethel and Concordia have won 1 each. All 11 teams have played in at least one MIAC Playoff. SMU appeared in the first Playoff (1985), and has gone the longest since its last appearance. SMU (0-1) and St Olaf (0-5) are the only teams without a win in the playoffs.  UST, GAC, CAR, BU and SJU have all appeared in the last 4 Playoffs (including 2009). Bethel as been in the last 11 Playoffs, UST the last 10, GAC the last 9 and Carleton the last 5.

Carleton's qualified for the MIAC Playoffs the last 8 years, not 5.

This board is way better if you just skip over AO's posts. Seriously.
