Nothing against Lonnie, he's a good player and great defender, but All-Conference is not deserved for this young man.  And Van Sickle?  I can't believe he was voted in as well...  Unbelievable....

Psst, Mose, wake up, wake up!! You've got to wake up for the game tomorrow night.

Fellas, I think Mose has passed out from the euphoria of seeing so many Tommies named to the various All Conference teams & awards.  My goodness!!  :-* :D

It seems the biggest difference between the CSN awards & the Coaches' awards, CSN selected Carleton's Zach Johnson POY & MVP, while the coaches went with UST's Joe Scott.   Also, the coaches selected Lonnie Robinson, Jesse Van Sickle for All Conference, while  CSN selected Tyler Nicolai & Carl Hipp.

Interestingly, both CSN & the coaches selected UST's Al McCoy. Now there's a conspiracy theory for someone. I didn't think the coaches would be as foolish as the CSN committee.    ;)

If memory serves me correctly (I am too lazy to go back and look) Pops predicted this about 2-3 weeks ago!

I'm curious as to why you think that neither of them deserved all-conference? Van Sickle lead the conference in three-point shooting and was the leading scorer on GAC and Lonnie is by far the best defender in the league, he's in the top ten in assists, assist to turnover ratio, and steals. Those sound like pretty good candidates for all-conference if you ask me. There are a lot of good players in this league and when it gets down to the last few spots, somebody is going to be left off, but that doesn't mean that these two weren't deserving of the honor.

Hammy Pipers was not posting from Hamline, but in fact, another MIAC institution. One not close enough to be mistaken for Hamline.

Sum - If Gman keeps up this of type of posting, we'll have to name him the MIAC Conversations  - Posters' Newcomer of the Year & give the "Big Papi" award to PapaHoops.  So I might as well break out the rest of the Palmer's.  ;D

Worst would be dunks - Gophers' Damian Johnson & Colton Iverson last night against the Sconnies.  (oops - wrong teams)
Sadly, there were no rim rattling, earth shaking dunks that the committee deemed worthy enough for inclusion in this year's Palmer's.

Sickest Move of the Year- Chris Vavra's ankle breaking crossover move against Augsburg in the Playoff semis.

Sweetest transition treys - Freshman Blaise Davis on the 2x1 fastbreak pull up trey (the first time I saw him do that - I thought - "kid, are you crazy??"  The kid's going to be a player.

G-Man~
Last time I checked, Van Sickle may have been leading the conference in 3-pt shooting, but thatonly meant he made three shots a night since he was averaging something like 9 points a game. A guy making three shots a game is NOT All-Conference.

Willy Wonka

Last time I checked, Van Sickle averaged a basket more than McCoy and Robinson.

While I would have only selected one of those three for the all-conference squad, that's a pretty lame argument, PI.

CMob – that would be our long-lost Aunt Rosie. :-*

What's the story on that Devon Knopke kid you mentioned got kicked off the Burnsville team last week?  I noticed him last year when I checked out Tarell Clark & Burnsville play Eden Prairie. Knopke is/was a nice player.

I've not seen as many high school games this year, but did see a few Tri-Metro conference games plus a handful of holiday tournament games. 2A Minnehaha Academy has got a very nice squad with 2-3 outstanding seniors who would all look good in MIAC uniforms next year. They have two losses on the year. A 8-10 point loss to large school 4A Sibley, currently ranked #2 in state. Their other loss was to #1 2A ranked St. Bernards' who's the front runner to win state in class 2A.

I was at the Minnehaha-Bernard's game a few weeks back & noticed Coach Westlund from Bethel at the game. I'm guessing there were other college coaches in attendance but the Bernard's gym is about the size of a lockerroom & it was packed to the max. The only reason I noticed Westlund was that I was shoved in the same, general corner of the bleachers as he was.

Here's a few more statistics to back up PI's argument:

In three games against the Tommies, Van Sickle had (1) 0 pts and 0 assists (this was the playoff game); (2) 6pts, 0 assists; and (3) 10 pts (on 3-9 shooting), 3 assists.

Against SJU in the playoffs he had 8 pts, 2 assists.

Against Carleton he had 7 pts, 0 assists.

Against Auggie, he had 6 pts, 2 assists

Against Concordia, he had 2 pts, 1 assist

Against Hamline, he had 2 pts, 0 assists

I would have taken Hipp, Fong and Schwartz over Van Sickle for all-conference.

Here's my two cents on this:

The coaches felt compelled to take one player from each playoff team.  Van Sickle was the best (only legit) choice from the Gusties & Burtzel was the clear choice from the Johnnies.  (Johnnies' Schwartz struggled down the stretch.)

Considering SMU's record - 6-14 conference, I'm a little surprised the coaches went with two players Holland & Wright.

Yet they ignored Carl Hipp from Hamline who lead the league in blocked shots, was 8th in scoring @13.1ppg, & 5th in reb @9.1rpg.

Fong didn't play the last 4-5 games of the season .

Perhaps I wasn't clear. Van Sickle would not have been in my all-conference list. He is a very talented player who had some explosive games and some games where he just didn't even shoot. And my pick for an all-conference lock, Robinson, clearly has his number.

I was just pointing out how silly PI's remark was about scoring.

And how the F was Scott picked as MVP? He would be the easy choice for NEXT year...but this blows my mind. I'm absolutely boggled right now.

Very plausible explanation, but like leaving Buena Vista out of the tourney, not the right decision.

I agree with Willy on the Scott/Johnson POY argument.  I would even have Madson ahead of Scott.  Johnson should have been the hands down choice.  I wonder if maybe his on the court demeanor/antics rubbed opposing coaches the wrong way and cost him a few POY votes?
