I can see it now...

Neal Anderson Court — where boxouts happen, but rebounds don't! ;)

(I saw him at DaVanni's before Saturday game and shook his hand. He made fun of me for being injured. Now he only needs to get in about 3,000 more jabs and we'll be even.)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Jimmy Chitwood

Russian Mig,

My track record for "posting up" on D3hoops.com is notoriously late and lengthy with the majority of the content just reworded ten different ways (see my post after Carroll loss two years ago).  However, it takes the playoffs for me to really get fired up and start offering my sometimes incoherent banter to anyone that is willing to listen.

Lets talk about the game on Saturday night briefly.  First, I just want to say you know a team has arrived when fans are left trying to scalp tickets from local ticket brokers to get into a D3 basketball game, so congrats Tommies on drawing a nice sized crowd--albeit half were UWSP fans.  I know the Russian Mig sure appreciates having the "hook up" for tickets to these events.  For those in attendance it was a fantastic last showing at The Shoe.  I didn't think it would be the encore for the nationally acclaimed venue on Sat. night, but as it turned out an exclamation point to a historic site.  I sure am going to miss getting out my climbing gear to summit the bleachers in the "adult" section.  Nothing like being 5 feet higher than the guy in front of you to watch the game!

To further The Migs point about the usually lifeless and easily distracted Tommies fans, it was good to see that they had a little extra excitement to them--even if it was only because it was Saturday night and there were some choice beverages consumed before hand.  For those of you that were at the last Gusties vs. Tommies game in the MIAC semis, you fully understand just how easy the Tommie fans can be overshadowed and drowned out by the visiting students.  I am not saying that Gusties fans are superior by any means, but they do travel well and bring life to any venue.  With that being said, they are still the most classless body of students in the MIAC and quite possibly anywhere.

My prediction for this weekend:  Tommies beat P-Sound, but lose handily to Wheaton.  I just don't like that match up, and I can really see the Tommies get pushed around.  Hopefully this isn't the case, but until Saturday they really haven't been tested.  I wish I could be in the stand this weekend, but unfortunately I will be demoted to hitting the bottle and watching the live web feed....

Mig and BumKneez, you wanna join me?

One last thing....Did anybody else think that Lonnie's hair-do was bad ass on Saturday night?

It was quite bad ass, but I liked his "Fresh Prince" flat top better.

Jimmy Chitwood

The flat top was a nice touch as well.  I wonder what it will be this weekend?  Shaved? Dyed Puple?  Lightning bolts???  Hopefully the web feed will zoom in enough for us to see.

Jimmy  - we've missed having you & Bumkneez around, along with the mostly MIA Ak47.

Regarding Lonnie's hair:  Lonnie has received several compliments on this board beginning with yours truly - who named Lonnie Co-Captain of the ALL MIAC Hair Team along with his running mate - Al McCoy.  (It was several days after the All-MIAC awards in case you're interested.)  In addition, one of UST's finest, Nick Lauer who is an intern in the SID department had this to say in the UST-UWSP game blog the other night.  (For those who've read this before bear with me   ;D  (I love this line - quiet understated smirky line  8) )

Lonnie Robinson gets things started for Tommies in the second half scoring an old fashioned three point play. The guy who fouled him, Louis Hurd. That's his third of the game. Robinson changed his hairstyle again and is sporting a Mohawk tonight. You could make a great coffee table book showing pictures of the different hairstyles he's worn throughout his St. Thomas career

And Willy, just when you think there couldn't be anymore written, ::)  ;D Reusse comes back with a stronger effort after the less than stellar column he wrote on Joe Scott.  Don't get me wrong, the Scott column was a nice piece but not up to Patrick Reusse's usual good work.    The Morning Growl

Drake--It is good to be back in the loop again.  I am instantly reminded just how time consuming this forum can be.  But what better things do I have to do on a Monday night?? Watch the much anticipated showdown between the Wolves and Wizards???  I will pass on that.

Does anybody know if there will be any fan buses headed down to Chicago this weekend, or will I be left trying to bum a ride from fans/students of a college I never attended??

Drake Palmer

JC- Keep checking the UST sports website. I know UST was trying to put together a charter bus & I half expected they would have posted the info this afternoon.

Jimmy Chitwood! - Look who just jumps in for the first time, after the 2nd round of the natty, and starts throwing around analytical gold.  Great breakdown.

Carletonsid - I see that you subsided a bit on your initial criticism of the court storming.  I have to admit, at first I was a bit befuddle by it as well.  I mean they were the higher seed, expected to win, and undefeated...  But then I realized we are talking about UST fans!  I mean even in that game I had guy and girl Tommie fans spending the entire game on their cell phones, or going out to the bathroom... I will take absolutely any enthusiasm they are willing to give us.  In fact, I would not be disappointed if they stormed the court after every single win.  I know the players would appreciate that more than the indifferent response they have received over the last 6 years during the regular season. (note, they seem to be mildy interested by the time the postseason rolls around).

Joe Scott - you have extremely large cajones!  Having once doinked a slamma jamma off the back iron in a game on a 1 on 0 fast break, I might be a bit more sensitive toward this than others, but in a 4 point game with that much on the line... you would have seen me do a textbook "Hoosiers layup".  Although the crowd would probably not have been that animated by a textbook layup, I suspect.  I quickly glanced over to the Big Man, and I don't think I have ever seen his face that beet red.  He was smiling at that point, probably grateful that it went in.  But I'm guessing Mr. Scott nearly gave him an aneurism.  Did anyone else get flash backs to Toby Bailey in the '95 national championship game?  Wait... what the hell happened to Toby Bailey?

UWSP Male Cheerleader - Wow.  I don't often admire another teams cheer squad.  But, seriously?  Breakdancing (followed by a hillarious 'dance off'), flips all over the place, and hoisting collegiate girlies all over the place.  Put it simply, I was extremely impressed.  Perhaps UST can throw some cash at him to get him to cheer for us going forward?  Everyone has a price...

Lil' recap - All in all, that was quite an exciting game.  Whether it was great defense, poor offense, or something else.  It was a close game and that is what people want to see.  I think there were some jingled nerves in the game (as there should be when the #1 and #4 teams are matching up in the 2nd round... that game probably should have been the matchup next Saturday.  It was a big match up), which resulted in the missed bunnies around the hoop and probably sent a few bombs wayward as well.  The win should help get the monkey off their back of previous tourney shortcomings.  I anticipate they will move forward with more calmed nerves.

UPS - Sounds like it will be a great game.  I am totally bias but IMO the Tommies should have home court all the way to the Final Four (my real motive is that I want to see the game live).  Although based on my logic they also should have had a first round bye.  It's tough to argue with dollars and cents, especially in this economy.  Que sera sera...  Looks like I will be huddling up with a case of beer around the computer on Friday night.  So really, not much different than any other Friday night... hahaha!  Maybe I will trick Jimmy Chitwood or USTBumkneez into joining me.

p.s. Sorry for the novel.  I am all jacked up on coffee.

ahh...mig...always good to read your posts

i think i know how you could coax the Manleader to UST...make a fake facebook profile...put up a picture of a man flexing with his shirt off...find him on facebook and poke him...after trading pokes tell him that you need him to spot you doing pantless squats and lunges...and also ask him to manlead the tommies to victory...it might work...but it might not work...i dont know maybe im way off or way on

Oh, I saw it. I actually liked his surly tone better in that piece (SURPRISE!). As if to confirm his thoughts that newspapers are struggling, I received word about two hours after reading it that my photog and receptionist had just been let go. A week after my general manager got the boot. Newspapers, rough business these days :-\

Chitty - I have never been more excited to find someone scalping tickets at a D3 basketball game.  I had prior engagements Friday night and was unable to attend the game against Aurora.  When I consulted the Tommies homepage and saw Mean Gene's article stating tickets were sold out, I immediately tried to get Tauer and Fritz on the phone.  To no avail.  They must have been screening their calls.

Nice shot at Gustavus' fans.  I wasn't there to witness that game, but I can tell you that as a player I wouldn't have minded our fans getting arrested for us... that shows a real level of dedication.  I like that you went out of your way to antagonize a fan base though.  That shows a real dedication to the Tommies on your behalf.

Finally, yes I will get nice and hemmed up with you... huddled around a naked lady machine... watching a choppy live feed of the Tommies doing the Puget Sounders real dirty-like... trying to decipher what Lonnie has done with his man-mane.  That sounds about right.  That is assuming you are sticking around and not road tripping to Wheaton.

C-Mob - Hahahaha!  Your obsession with poking people on facebook is... well... amazing.  I think you are "way on" on that point, btw.  Perhaps it won't cost the Tommies any currency, just some beefcake, and a little effort on the naked lady machine.

Drake - I was really hoping that you wouldn't point out to Chitty that I have been just as desultory as he.  I am not sure it is good for you to be on the wrong side of the Russian underworld.  But what do I know... I just get in naked fights at creepy bath houses.

Miggy - Was BumKneez at Saturday's games? Did he/you sit in front of Hanson and Kalland?

Wonka - Yes indeed, I was sitting in front of Hansen with the bummiest of kneez.  Hansen and I had matching Northface jackets on... although I took mine off as I didn't see any sense in wearing a jacket in a gym that was roughly 105 degrees farenheit.  Apparently he is cold blooded, he didn't seem fazed at all.
