I have no problem saying that if any player was being cocky, Fritz would end their life right on the court :P .  I've seen even when UST has had a large cushion, Fritz will not hesitate to light up Joe Scott for missing an assignment.  Scott seems to be the favorite of Fritz's as far as who he's going to chew out.  Scott misses an assignment, Fritz's face turns red, and you can see the spew of profanity coming from Fritz's mouth.  It's great to watch.

You're absolutely right TF12!!  I don't think I've ever seen a person's face get redder than Coach Fritz's!!  ;D ;D

Jimmy Chitwood or AK47 were right in checking Fritz's reaction after the Dunk of the Year by Scott in the closing seconds of the game against UWSP last week. I'm sure Fritz's face color would have been off the charts!

If this was D1 or the NBA, the Tommies would be required to have a personal trainer or team manager standing by with a towel in hand so the guilty player could wipe the excess spittle off his face after Fritz  got done chewing him out. I know he scares me & I don't play for him!   ;) ;)

I was extremely impressed with St. Thomas last night.  The Tommies don't really have one superstar-type player, but they play together as a team so well, and they are fundamentally outstanding.  Just a really well-coached team.

I've got Wash U as a 2-point favorite, completely based on experience - this Wash U nucleus has been to Salem the last two years.  Last night, they looked incredibly poised and composed in a hostile road venue, in a huge game.  Personnel wise, I think it is really a toss-up...although Wash U is certainly bigger than St. Thomas.  Wash U's size could be a problem for the Tommies.

I'm really looking forward to the game - great matchup.  Too bad it is at least one round too early for these two teams to meet.

St. Thomas is a terrific team, certainly a Final Four caliber team. I love watching a squad that throws everything it has into its defense, and while both teams ran an effective press it was UST's halfcourt tenacity that really wowed me. They bulldogged the Loggers on every possession and conceded nothing. On the offensive end, the Tommies were tremendously unselfish. They played one of the best penetrate-and-dish games I've seen all season.

You've hit on the two things that most impressed me about UST when I watched the video feed of their game with WSP.  They move their feet so well on defense in the half court, and if the opposing player gets a step on his man, they seem to have instantaneous help defense. It was very impressive to watch.  The other was the passing and cutting they display in the half court offense.  I don't quite remember the exact stats, but they had one game this year where they had almost as many assists and they had baskets.  At the time, I thought that it must be an assist happy home stat keeper, but after watching them play, I'm not so sure that was the case.

As much as I enjoy reading the CCIW board, they're not without their village idiots...

A great game last night, but it was tough to walk out of that gym knowing that this Thunder team wont take the floor again. But if Wheaton had to lose, Wash U is certainly a worthy opponent to fall to. The Bears played with poise, experience, and most of all class. Wash U has a great team and I would be shocked if they lost the rest of the way--even tonight. There just are not many teams that play D like that.

I think the tone of the game was really set when McCrary missed the 2 FT's after the intentional foul call on his break away.  Wash U controlled the tempo by giving up an intentional foul instead of a free layup, and it worked.  Wheaton misses a momentum change, and Wash U realizes it is the more composed, experienced team on the floor.  The PG was very cool headed, and did well to pop the lead back to 6 or 7 whenever Wheaton would whittle it away.  I also applaud Wash U for their class.

I look forward to seeing them knock off St. Thomas, who in my one viewing of them (last night), seem to be pretty cocky and enjoying the ride on the undefeated train a little too much.

WTF?? I've seen over a 9-10 UST games this year & I've not seen anything that closely resembles hubris or arrogance.  Fritz would blow a gasket - i.e. Teddy Archer & the flops from last year.  So are they supposed to act like little choirboys??

I should add, there is a certain element among the UST parent & alumni section that can be shall we say - fairly rabid.  Coach Fritz can't do anything about them.  :o ;D

Based on the karma rating, & low post count,  I'm guessing this is a sanctimonious "little holier than thou" pi** ant from the league winner.  Funny how certain types of schools seem to breed these type of posters.   ;)

Are you calling me a village idiot? If so, I am sorry you feel that way, I try to make my posts as objective as possible. I'm not sure what about the post of mine that you quoted indicates idiocy--it wasn't even a flaming "pro-Wheaton" post.

The dynamics in the gym tonight will be interesting.  I'm guessing King Arena will be no more than half full.  St. Thomas brought a terrific crowd to Wheaton, including a large student section that organized behind one of the baskets last night.  Wash U primarily has an adult crowd (parents of players, etc) and only has about half the people as St. Thomas.  I think the Tommies will have the majority of the energy from the stands in this neutral court game.  Not saying it will be a huge factor, but it can't hurt.

Tmike- Nites is absolulely right.  You were quoted in another post & I was referring to the comments made by the other poster CCIWchamps after he quoted you:

He made those comments, not you. You're cool in my book.   ;) +K.

Just wanted to make sure. As much as I am a fan of Wheaton, I make it a point to not be a homer. Best of luck to UST, Wash U is a really, really tough team

GO Tommies!  They certainly have their work cut out for them.

Drake, I haven't had a chance to follow the other brackets, but did Northwestern or any of the other UMAC teams happen to advance to the Elite 8 with a chance to go to Salem?  I'd hate to have UST make it out of the Bracket of Death, only to have to face an old nemesis in the Final Four.   ;) ;)

I think it's important to note that even with Lonn Robinson, UST's best defender, only playing 16 minutes because of foul trouble, they still held a team averaging 80something points a game to a mere 69 points.

TommieFan2012

PS: Don't be surprised to see more UST fans in attendance tonight.  I know of quite a few people going down for tonights game that weren't there last night.

Before Nites distracted me,  ;)

Anyone who was at the game last night:  Did the Tommie Boys show up?

To the unitiated, they are male Tommie students who wear shorts, remove their shirts & paint T-O-M-M-I-E-S letters on their chests. Last week they topped off their antics when a Will Ferrell look alike with Daisy Duke 70's shorts, tube socks & headband  arrived. The other Tommie students would hoist Will Jr. on their shoulders & he would "moon" the opposing team players when he stepped to the line to shoot free throws.  Now I see how that might be interpreted as being a bit rude.   ;)  Personally, I was crying & LMAO!

And I would say this regardless, whether it was a team I was supporting, or cheering against.  The old Gusties fans used to be the MIAC standard bearers.  Their fan base was awesome!

TF12- if the TBs weren't there last night can you imagine what a rush it would be for the UST team to walk out on the court for pregame warmups & see those guys??? It would be absolutely insane.  I would be so stoked!!  Wash U would have to hang 'em up!!  ;)

I had to post again to display my new signature, curtesy of a Logshow post from last night.   Big Al wasn't much of a factor last night, but UST will need him, and more, tonight.

No shyte?!?!?  :D :D

where did you find that?

predator hair?? ::)

If that wasn't so funny, I'd have to take back my +K & friendly post on their board.

I'm obviously not getting much done today.  Weekend work will have to wait until Sunday.  :)
