Agreed....and while we're at it, lets have football and hockey chip in too.

I used to go to Denning's baseball camps - I was a Phillie one year and then a Marlin. Then he won two national baseball titles.

Plus his son, Wes, wasn't a bad Class AA ball player that I believe played for the now extinct Expos.

(That was my best CMob random comment)

Congrats to the Tommies!

Let me push this 800lb work gorilla off my back for a couple of seconds & send out a well deserved Congratulations to the Tommies' baseball team!  Nicely done!

Mose, I hope you did a screen shot of your computer monitor so you could preserve the historic moment - your 1,000th post & a Tommie national title.  It would be interesting to know how many D3 posters made a milestone post - 100, 500, 1,000 etc. commemorating their school's national title.  I'll have to work on a new nickname for you – Gandalf, DR (Diamond Rich), Doc Holliday – Doc for short etc.   ;) ;D

Maniac...come on, anyone who pays the 125 would be more than welcome...Tell you what, if you come, I will make sure that BB will be in our 4-some since Summ can't make it.  Have not heard from Drake, hell he is probably out on the back 9 of some posch country club as I write this...Summ, too bad you can't make it, good luck fishing, so do you ever chase bass?

Should I take that as an insult that I wasn't invited? I'm sure Jim and t-shirt would love to take my money! I could even wear one of the two SJU practice jerseys I have, uh, acquired over the years ;D

(I already have plans for free golf down in the Wing that day, so this is mostly a jest. Though the way this newspaper biz keeps crashing, I suppose the joke could end up being on me...)

Wonka...it calls for 4-somes and so I went with seniority, so with Summ out and the fact that Drake is MIA or just has not responded to my invite, yes you are invited to pay and play...no freebies here, sorry.  The way things are going I don't think I will be fielding a team as it is...

Voj – I'm been buried under work for the last month, & it looks to continue like this for the next 3-4 weeks.  So ain't no golf happening in my future.  Besides, the last time I golfed Tiger hadn't even won his first Masters.  I'm more of a casual golf fan & watch the Masters (& occasionally other golf slam events) each year as it helps me make the transition from indoor "spectating" - basketball, hoops, basketball to outdoor stuff like biking, hiking, tennis etc.

Nites, the closest I get to being Tiger like is when I heed the subliminal message from one of his commercials & drink a Gatorade.  ;D

Willy - one of the comics in the Sunday papers  - "Non Sequitur" had a nice snarky perspective on the current, unfortunate newspaper situation:

Newspaper conference room:

Staff member:  So how does your new media business template work?
Fat Cat publisher: We provide our content for free, then lay off everyone.
Staff member:  Uh, you mean the ones who produce the content?
Fat Cat publisher:  Uh-huh!

Coffee Shop/restaurant

Old Guy Customer: And that's how the modern era of newspapers was created.
Waitress:  Sadly, that's the most logical explanation I've heard so far.

Truer words may never be spoken. I'm amazed at some of the decisions being made around the country...and in my own backyard....in regards to coverage, cuts and whether or not to embrace the web.

Since I know PI and TH4L might be interested as Missota Conference people and the rest probably saw the story of the former RW coach burning down a town hall and committing suicide...here's a link to the followup story I just did. Shows the more personal side, before meds for Parkinson's messed him up.

PS - Speaking to family and friends who have just lost a loved one isn't in my top 1,000,000 experiences ever. But that's why I get paid the big bucks, I guess  :-\
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Hockey maybe as there always seems to be good talent and all you need is a really hot goaltender...

but FOOTBALL?  When was the last time you won a conference title let alone an NCAA playoff game...

Let me guess Maniac, you were out doing yardwork, maybe mowing and you had your head down and didn't see the low hanging branch that you banged your head on, then you came in and what you decided to write can be attributed to a slight concussion...

Hope you all have a great weekend...Maniac I hope you recover from your  concussion...

VOJ,

Remember that UST was a complete blown call away from beating the Johnnies last fall for the first time since 1997. Maybe it's far-fetched, but it's not impossible. Can't we dream a little?

Speaking of newspapers, I was at the Section 1AA track meet and had a lengthy conversation with John Millea from the Strib. Really nice guy. Unless you're in the biz and know what's going on, you'd be amazed to know how many guys over there are part-time. He said they've cut 100 newsroom staff between layoffs and buyouts.

In the last two years, we got rid of full-time photographers and either offered them part-time pay or laid them off. Company-wide, probably lost a third of our staff and I routinely put together three pages twice a week with no advertising on them. We sports guys really have to love what we do, and I can't speak for WW or PI, but the worst part of my week right now is being in the office. Attitudes are low because of the state of newspapers, and it isn't getting better any time soon.

I concur. Although we do have a few yeah-babies....so morale isn't that low for this guy  :P

Yea 1997...I remember it well...no I don't because it was 3 years before I started calling games...geez if you have go back more than a decade for your last win, is it really a rivalry?

Lets not even talk about having success in the NCAA's...as Bethel saw its one thing to hang with those in the MIAC but another to play the Mount Unions and Whitewaters  of the world.  Why do they keep scheduling down?

columbianmaffia

my boss was disturbed today because i put both turkey and chicken sandwich meat on my sando...is anyone else against this??
