Sorry for the double post.
WW-I was writing at the same time as you and didn't mean to reiterate things you had already said. Seems we are on the same page.

hey hey!!  nice day on the board.  it is good to read everyone getting all lathered up by the scribe currently known as AO.  nice job.  and it looks like it took a scrolling entry to entice bet-34 back to the board.  welcome back, tim gilbert.  will look forward to some bethel updates to offset all this gac and ham stuff.

drake, try scrolling an invite to concordia of the north while you are at it.  it would be way good to hear from him sometime!   :)

Finally, some relevant MIAC talk!...

Grey, Anderson and Blacklock all fit that description nicely. It's almost as tired a cliche as Drake's "it's still early" bit, but it matters more who's finishing than who's starting. With that in mind, it's pretty hard to argue with how Hanson's juggled the minutes so far. The big test will be Jan 13.

Whoa, whoa, whoa there big fella - double check the board. At the time of your most recent post, the last person to use the "it's early" cliché was your colleague –TH4L. My general rule of thumb, it's early until the first of the year.  If I'm still spouting this "early" business in February – shoot me.

But I do agree with what TH4L was asking about your team.  Having said that, I have to give you Gustie backers credit.  Unlike some other posters, you can & do support your team but you're at least willing to admit to an occasional team blemish or flaw.

Supe – yeah I miss CON too. A future pastor who would just as soon toss an elbow in your ribs then let you grab a rebound.  ;) Another guy who might have been before your time - Bethelguy.  I've spotted them both at games the last year or so. Plus Funballer was nice to have around on the board. On occasion he could get under Willy's skin & they would have a few, spirited debates.  ;)

How many people do you think regularly post in this thread?

Quote from: Drake Palmer on December 15, 2009, 02:38:45 PMGood luck.  A UMAC team will need to get a D1 or D2 type player & surround him with good supporting talent to make any type of post season noise. Otherwise, the UMAC post season success will mirror that of teams such as Aurora from the Nathcon.  They won their league last year, had the pleasure of coming to MN to play UST in the first round of the NCAAs & got absolutely buried 96-73. And it really wasn't even that close. If I'm not mistaken, the NathCon or it's predecessor's league winners have never advanced beyond the first round.

I hope that you didn't put down money on that assertion, Drake. Aurora won a tourney game as recently as '03, when the Spartans beat Trinity (TX) in the opening round down yonder in San Antone, 67-66. And back in '91, when the school was still known as Illinois Benedictine College, Benedictine made it all the way to the Elite Eight. The Bennies drew a first-round bye and then beat DePauw by four and Randolph-Macon by twelve before eventual national champion UW-Platteville buried them by 36 points.

Aurora and Benedictine were members of the (non-AQ) Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference back then, which merged with the Lake Michigan Conference to form the Northern Athletics Conference.

Unless someone else does it beforehand, once we reach the end of the holidays, I'll do a breakdown of how the MIAC has fared in preseason play.  (Just checking Greg  ;))

That's the whole point of my request. A few games, no matter how poor or embarrassing, don't make or break an established program.

Or maybe you want to argue that LeMoyne will now be stealing players from Syracuse, too  ::)
That's great the Gustavus has an established program with terrific facilities and everything.  What it doesn't do is make recruiting or winning automatic.  You're acting like packer fans who dimiss the vikings as rivals by saying "you're not our rival, Chicago is!  we have lambeau field and we're title town..blah blah blah"

Well, the Vikings are a big rival for both Green Bay and Chicago ... but the Bears are the archrival in the minds of the cheeseheads, Brett Favre notwithstanding, and vice-versa as far as us FIBs are concerned. C'mon, man. Bears/Packers is the longest-running and best rivalry in the NFL. Talk to anybody on either side of the Lombardi-Halas Line (aka the Wisconsin-Illinois border), and they'll tell you that a 2-14 season is acceptable as long as the two wins are at the expense of the other team.

Why the heck do you think all of Chicagoland is screaming for Lovie's blood right now? Losing twice to the Packers is simply unacceptable, even for a crappy team like this year's Bears.

The MIAC appears to have gone 29-12 thus far in non-conference play, which is a pretty good pace. Do any of you track that sort of thing each year?

Ah yes, I believe Sister Mary Nonconference belonged to the same Abbey as:

That's good...because after the Bethany-Gustavus throwdown or I should say beat down the last thing this board needs is a GAC Civil War... ;D

See what you started yesterday.   ;)

AO's self-proclaimed high school nemisis was Brett Winkelman of Morris High School and NDSU fame.  He now appears to have a new one in Gacman.      :)

I ask your forgiveness Father Gregory and Sister "I take no mess off nobody, especially you Palmer" Mary Nonconference of the Holy Hoops, Bump the Cutter, Deny the Entry Pass School and Parish.  :) Mea Culpa -- looks like I was wrong & time for me to wear the "man up" hat.  I thought I read that tidbit on one of my visits to the Midwest region board last spring. Or maybe it was the SLIAC conference?  Guess I thought wrong.

I tried to do a little research last night & never did find anything.  Greg or anyone else, is there a site that shows the most NCAA D3 tourney wins by conference?  I know about the Massey ratings but I believe it only ranks the conferences regular season wins from top to bottom.

Greg- Bethel Guy used to compile that type of nonconference data but no one really has in the last couple of years.  I volunteered to compile the data for this season at some point over the holidays.

Not as far as I know. I was keeping the D3-tourney-by-conference info for awhile, but I haven't updated it in several years. It's a difficult undertaking, because the membership histories of some of the conferences can be a little murky.

GAC's arch rival for Southern Minnesota basketball talent, Bethany Lutheran, drops to 0-10 following a 69-47 loss last night to Carleton.  Seth Jonker led the way for the Knights with 21 points.
