SJU4life- You are obviously closely related to the team. If you watched more and payed less attention to the guards you would see the problem. The team doesnt use their post players enough. Henrichs is a great player inside and Craig Schafer is a solid post player as well. Too many times this year i have seen the Johnnies settle for mid range jumpers from Ohme, Westman, and Leiser when they could get the ball inside and open things up a little more. I remember wathcing the Tommie vs. Johnnies game and Paul Henrichs had someone posted up inside and was screaming at the guard to pass it to him from the wing. The guard looked in and passed away. The Johnnies shoot themselves out of games by taking horrible shots early in the shot clock.  Craig Schafer was 8-10 shooting the ball on wednesday night and ended up leading the team. How could you not pass the ball inside. Craig knows enough that if he is doubled down on he will kick it back out. The SJU program has a flaw its philosophy seems to be shoot the ball first and then pass inside. The three guards are good shooters but they also have weapons inside and by getting the posts involved in the scoring it could take alot of pressure off the guards. The old saying holds true "live by the three die by the three" the Johnnies may have an off night shooting from the outside but at least they can count on two near double doubles each game from Henrichs and C. Schafer if they get the ball.

apparantly you  havnt been watching closely enough miacwatchmen.  How often did u want them to go into henrichs at the tommies game?  I mean he was 3-12?  I just looked at the SJU season stats and in the last 7 games and he is 15 for 58 shooting.  That equals a whopping 25.8% field goal percentage.  Craig schaefer on the other hand is playing very well this year but you say he is smart enough to kick it out?  I have seen him force more shots then need be and for the year (12 games) he has only 15 assists.  Passing from the post to a wing is one of the easiest ways to pick up assists.

Henrichs has carried this program for two + years. He had a tough game at UST but i think everyone did. How could you single him out when the team as a whole didn't shoot higher than 35% as a team for 4 straight games. Do you think that only Schafer forces shots?? Thats a joke all the guards do too!! Ohme went crazy pushing the ball into 3 guys versus MAC. It seems like he has a mind set that he will score his points even if he is having an off night. Westman shoots bad shots and misses alot. Leiser is the smartest player of them all he shoots bad shots but not as often as the other 4 starters.

Dang, now you're calling your own basketball program a joke?  Take two ibuprofen along with a glass of water & go to bed.  You'll feel better in the morning & about your team.   ;)

The ibuprofen might work now, but you might need something a little stronger for tomorrow night if you happen to lose :)

I love the bickering amongst same-school supporters - that's something I've never tried before. Picking on guys like Mig gets old when they don't post anymore. Speaking of which, I haven't made an anti-UST post for awhile...

The top eight scorers - with the possible exception of Johnson, who may soon hit the rookie wall - in the MIAC right now (Ike, Conboy, Schnettler, Zach Johnson, Forkrud, Thrasher, Linz and Bosman) all seem like mortal locks for all-conference barring a complete collapse. I see TeBrake, Sowden/Olson, Dixon, Batterman, Henrichs, Auggies Justin Kozlowski and Drake as probables at this point with plenty of others right on their heels (Schafer, DeRock, Sweeney, Jake Phillips, Ohme, Wittwer and Meadowcroft).

Per Bert's California math, that leaves no room for Keating and/or Shimek. Just scanning the names I've left off, are people really thinking they deserve spots? I don't see it.

I can wake up to a free Tremendous 12 tomorrow and then head up to take in the High School showcase at the Target Center before watching the Gustie double-header and relaxing to the NFL playoffs. The only question is...do I want to wake up at 7:30 after working until 1:30? I'm thinking not at this point.

(Yes, it's 1am and I'm at work waiting for my slow-as-molasses co-worker to put my pages to bed. I know PI and TH4L feel me.)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

I feel ya. But you need to crap the whip. Gotta know how to run a staff if you want to be in the big leagues.  ;D

I wish I could be in attendance today for the big game, but I'll be at a wedding for one of my friends. I'm missing the Gophers-Sioux too. Some people's children scheduling weddings on this good of a sports weekend.

Just a stat to show all that the post players are the most important factor to SJU winning. C. Schafer is averaging 12.4 points a game which is 12th in the conference and P. Henrichs is averaging 11.7 points per game which is 17th in the conference. Ohme and Leiser are both averaging just over 10 a game which is 25 + in the conference. As far as rebounding Henrichs is second in the conference at 8.4 a game and C. Schafer is 7th at 7.1 per game. The Johnnies need to get the ball inside and they will be better off. The stats show that.  The Johnnies are 2-0 when Henrichs is their leading scorer in the game, 2-2 when Schafer is the leading scorer and 2-2 when anyone else is the leading scorer. This stat is discounting the games played in Hawaii.

Just tuned into the Johnnies game 11 minutes late and they are down 8-5 early. After Westman hit three straight free throws.

miacwatchmen

Johnnies trailed by as many as 11 in the first half and then they get a Milaca power-up and Tim Verink goes 3-3 on 3pt FG's and leads Johnnies to a 32-27 half time lead. Johnnie announcer has been claiming poor officiating but it appears that it didn't matter to much. The Johnnies ended to half on a 17-1 run.

Brink and Verink replace Ohme and Westman to start the second half for the Johnnies.
