However, the head scratching performance of the weekend had to go to UST's Anders Halvorsen. He knocked down 19 points in only 14 minutes of play.  He was 8-11 from the field, 2-3 3FGA, 4 rebs, & 1 block.  Nice stats for Halvorsen, but it would be nice to see him put up those types of numbers in a money/clutch game rather than in a blowout. However, a small form of redemption for Haldo, & somewhere today or over the weekend I'm sure Papahoops was smiling.  ;)

Drake - I don't know if you noticed, but Anders got a whopping 3 minutes of playing time in the previous game.  Perhaps, a successful tactic by Coach Fritz to light a little fire under the boy's feet???    :-\

Gophers are headed for the NIT...they better take Northwestern seriously...Viking fan, well let's just say you have now been baptized into the life of backing Brett Favre...I hope I don't hear too much of "he lost the game for us", you signed him, its not like you didn't know what he was all about, and all of you drooled the drool of regret into the pillow of remorse last night and for the rest of the off season.

A chaser of perspective needs to be served with your vial of bile regarding Favre, Vee Oh Jay: Would the Vikings even have been playing in the NFC championship game this year if their starting quarterback all season had been Sage Rosenfels or Tavaris Jackson?

Oh and Sensei' Sager...chalk that one up to a little Lombardi Trophy magic

Who says it has anything to do with performance? I, for one, would rather go 0-16 than cheer for a Favre-led Vikings team. I was unabashedly cheering for the Saints yesterday so as not to earn a tainted trip to Miami. Ask around if you don't believe me.

For what it's worth, the Vikes finished 10-6 last year before upgrading at RT, adding the Off ROY and signing the egomaniac (and losing Birk). Even without Favre, they have one of the best and deepest rosters in the NFL.

Old habits die hard.  For 19 years, Farve has been burned by rolling right and throwing across his body to the middle of the field.  Remember, it always has to be Brett's way; otherwise, he never would have retired and unretired annually each year for the past decade, nor would he have been able to amass his impressive total of of 317 regular season and 30 playoff interceptions (both records, by the way).  I feel sorry for the Vikes, but not for Mr. "It's All About Me".   :o

Here's the latest from Favre's Career Interception Watch: http://jasonjeffrey.wordpress.com/brett-favre-career-playoff-interception-record-watch/

Brett Lorenzo Favre is now the record holder for most career playoff interceptions thrown! This is the very definition of the culmination of a lifelong dream.

[01-25-10] When Favre's 973rd annual unretirement and signing with the Minnesota Vikings was announced, the hopes, dreams and prayers of football fans around the world were sent skyward. A desperate plea was voiced in unison as all clutched to the belief that the career playoff interception record was finally again within reach. The road was long and arduous; the hands of the defending secondaries unsure and unreceptive to the gifts repeatedly bestowed upon them by the steadfast single-minded tenacity of the prolific Brett Lorenzo Favre. Then, it happened... In an inspired effort of unwavering determination, not merely one, but two interceptions were added to the impressive tally, resulting in a grand total of 30 career playoff interceptions thrown! Having your team dismissed from the playoffs yet again is surely a small price to pay for such an impressive record! Thank you Favre! Thank you for never letting us down!

First post after many years of reading. I wanted to respond to the Yorky conspiracy last week but I must have had to go thru an extensive background check. Took all weekend to get ok'd. Just wanted to ask VOJ how he felt about the following situation and why he never had a problem with it.

Back in the '03-'04 season the Johnnies and Tommies were tied going into the 16th game of the season with 7-8 records. The only 2 teams really fighting for the final playoff spot. St. Johns had a player named Nate Kopetka. His dad is a referee. When I walked into the Shoe that day to watch the Tommies upset Gustavus and Willy Wonka, I was surprised to see Frank Kopetka reffing. Needless to say I was a little concerned. He did a fine job as he usually does. No problems.

I just found that to be a little more worrisome than the Yorky situation. You were digging a little deep with that one.  I find the fact that a Johnnie player's dad reffing an important UST game with a playoff spot on the line should never have happened.

Turns out it didn't matter as the Johnnies lost all their remaining games.

Highlight of the day.  Early in the 2nd half, SMU's Palmer stole a pass at the top of the key, broke away, thought he was all alone & decided "hmm, nobody with me?, I'm gonna yam it," & loaded up for the vicious one handed tomahawk.  When suddenly out of nowhere, Bethel's skinny 5-10 Daniel Baah came streaking down the court & said "not on my court bruh," jumped with him & blocked his dunk.  I almost choked on my popcorn.   :o ;D :o

I heard from a source at Bethel that Palmer got undercut by Baah... tough to say though, I wasn't there.

Sometimes predictions are a little ahead of their time :) ;)  19 points in 14 minutes.....now that is offensive production
Who would have thought he had that in him ??? ???

Easy there papa....you dont want to dislocate your shoulder patting yourself on the back  :) ;D ;D But it was truly nice to see.

Yes WW, Torell did lay down a monster dunk....it got a nice roar from the Ole students, but it also lit a fire under UST, which went on a 15-2 run after it.  But it was the closest thing to an offensive highlight for the Oles, who had a simply miserable day shooting.

Yeah it wasnt too bad, other than he took about 8 steps. His timing was kinda stupid, IMO-- down 19 & dunking?  Fong tried to get in the act, but totallly embarrassed himself . Twice if I remember right.

altho Archer laid a nice one down, and Halveson rattled the rim twice.

All I'm saying is give a little respect for the big man.  In fact I might appoint myself President of the Seth Jonker fan club.  :-* If he continues his strong play, in the MIAC award happy world of "No Player Left Behind," I would think he'll end up making one of the 15 all conferecne spots.  I just wished the coaches & league had the guts to name 3 teams rather than one big happy family of 15 All-MIAC players.  :D

"No Player Left Behind" ... that's good stuff, DP. I join you in decrying the move to an undifferentiated All-MIAC team. What's next ... everybody who suits up for a MIAC game gets a blue ribbon from the league office for participating?

I could be wrong but it seems that Sensei likes to pick on VOJ. Maybe it's VOJ's confrontational nature.  ;)

Nah, it's because VOJ is my homeboy. Picking on him is like giving my little brother a noogie. ;)

Ok Drake I think this is what you want to hear...Seth Jonker is a productive post who is a major key to the Knights and their playoff push down the stretch, his play will determine whether or not the Knights get into the six-pack playoffs...

Seriously he does many things well and its just that he does them in less than dominating fashion, he is not flashy, but he goes about his business and gets the job done.

+K to Sensei Sager and thanks for the repeated noogies, its all good

I can see your points and that is why I said that if a reff has a connection with with a school he should not reff that schools games and that maybe should be expanded...you may not see it as a conflict of interest but it looks bad, there is no way around that.

I am not sure what George D(the assigner of officials) thinks when he makes assignments out, he may not look at any of that before making his decisions.  By the way

I had to go back and look at that season...those are memories I would rather blank out, the first of two straight 8-17 seasons  :(

I am new to this board as well but have been reading for years.  I must say I love everyones input and it really helps me stay in touch with the league.  Keep up the good work.

From my vantage point, it was a good clean foul. Unlike other hard fouls that I've seen on breakaway layup/ dunk attempts in the last couple of weeks, Baah actually jumped with Palmer & was going for the block. The fouls I saw on the other breakaway layups, the defender was basically doing a tackle/ push from behind.  Excellent leaping prowess & athletic ability displayed by both players.

On a side note, I was a little disappointed with Baah's defensive recovery since some of my favorite dunks in recent years have taken place on the Bethel court.  Last year BJ Viau from UST had an awesome breakaway tomahawk dunk during one of the conference games.

Then two years ago, Augsburg's Femi Solaja had a dunk for the ages.  Solaja was feeding off the energy of the loud, raucous capacity crowd & had an incredible drop step dunk over Bethel's Mike Moberg in the opening minutes of their game. This game was the final regular season conference game and would determine which team would qualify for the playoffs.  I think Solaja only dunked a handful of times in his entire college career, so I've got to believe that dunk has to rank up there as one his collegiate basketball highlights!  Unfortunately for him & the rest of the Dawgs, they lost in a nail biter to Bethel, 74-72.

Bethel's floor definitely has some "spring" to it.  I wouldn't be surprised if the rims were 9'9", because it definitely feels like it.  On the other hand, it might have just been the rivalry juices flowing as there's nobody more satisfying to beat than bethel.
