If you add Bobby Johnson and his comeback to that list, and it even gets more interesting. He will only be a sophmore eligibility wise, but a junior in school who got his medical redshirt and has been benefitting from getting to practice with the team everyday gaining more experience than just sitting out and doing nothing until next year. 3 years left for him.

He averaged 6.4 points per game as freshman, and before his injury late this summer he was being labled as GAC's best player coming into the year. Whether he was or wasn't, you could argue he is as big of an immediate impact player joining a team next year as there is short of a Ray Brown type player transfer.

I ran into him recently and he is going to be the strongest and most physical post in the MIAC hands down and would be this year if he was playing.

With Brown and Hipp both back, as well as a host of kids that played some significant minutes...sprinkle in a few newbies and a transfer and Hamline might be the favorite.

If Brown gets that year back....big if....all they lose is a nice defender in Carroll and a spot-up shooter in Andersen. Like both players, but they can be replaced. Then again, Hamline has been known to have major shake ups in its roster each offseason.

SMU uploaded video of a pretty nice throwdown by young palmer on the fast break last night.

Here's the clip... definitely worth a watch.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBp-DrG15AM

Palmer's dunk is at 1:24. The rest of the video shows Holland's silky smooth J, #42 Seifert scoring with ease off of the bench, and some other guys with nice plays.

These videos are great, they're perfect for fans like me that can't always get to the games due to travel.

HOWEVER I am not suprised by the HU loss. (Point margin yes - loss no..) With all the "Downtown" & "The Beast" talk - many forget that we are talking about a team that is made up of 90% Freshman and Sophomores.

and we are also talking about . . . . . . . . . a team that is STILL the vipes.   :D

i'm hoping that the recent talk about next year is not an indication that everyone has given up on the 2010 crop already!!   :o  there remains a lot of ball to be played!

I agree that Johnson was a solid FY player last year with great upside potential for the Gusties. The last time someone made a bold prediction about a returning front court underclassman having a monster breakout season, however, things didn't work out so well ??? ??? :) For your sake G-Man, I hope you don't have the same jinxing power as papahoops ;) ;)

SUMMIT!!!!!

Excellent play by UST last night. By half they held an 18-6 rebounding edge and it was a 37-20 differential by the end of the night. Scott seems to be coming alive on offense, Nicolai is warming up as well and Healy continues to impress me ob both ends of the court.  Yup, Id say they are gearing up for the post-season.

Gotta congratulate the Bethel kids tho,.. with all the injuries, they are down to 9 guys, but last night they played with intensity and passion like it was a championship game. Lotta hustle, never say "give"..they can be proud, despite the loss(es).

The odds of Brown getting an additional year of eligibiliyt rank up there with the odds of me winning the lottery, or Mac going 20-0 in MIAC play next season. He was foolish (some would say dumb) enough to toke up during the NCAA tourney, flunks a drug test and now thinks he should get that year back??  I know people make dumb mistakes, but they pay the price for them.

If Schwartz continues to miss games, SJU will sink to 6th like a lead balloon. That could send them to Hamline in the quarters with Carleton @ GAC in the other. How the Countdown to 500 coming? Still, Im looking forward to St @ C-ville. I wonder if any USJ fans can find the gym (its adjacent to the football field, if anyone is wondering). I miss the days when USJ actually filled the gym... back when Toyota was making safe cars with brakes :)

He is protesting the year he had to sit out counting toward his eligibility. Any standard (or example) to draw upon?

I'd literally love to see the NCAA paperwork in Brown's request for another year. At face value, isn't the basic argument as asinine as this?

You caught me smoking weed. The rules clearly define the penalty for the terrible decision I made, but I'm special and shouldn't have to abide by the same rules as everyone else. I demand to effectively count that year as a redshirt and be eligible for another season  ::) ??? ::)

2005-06: Played at Bradley
2006-07: Suspended from Bradley/Lost season (NCAA appeal already denied)
2007-08: Played at Missouri Western State in 22 of 29ish games
2008-09: N/A
2009-10: Played at Hamline

From the NCAA web site: You should know that NCAA rules indicate that any competition, regardless of time, during a season counts as one of your seasons of competition in that sport. It does not matter how long you were involved in a particular competition (for example, one play in a football game, one point in a volleyball match); you will be charged with one season of competition.

The above is Ray Ray's track record. What's that leave? Medical hardship? Stupidity for leaving 75% of the way through a season? I mean, how can this possibly make any sense?

If he really gets a year back, I hope Reusse goes digging into the judge's background. I'm guessing it's either Jerome "The Truth" Williams with the gavel and/or his bank account just got a nice little cash infusion from someone called "The Admiral."
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

I am not going to go in depth on a public message board but most of the statements above are assumptions, nothing more.  There is a lot more to the appeal than the Bradley "scandal".  If he gets another year, he gets it, however it is going to be more likely than most of you think.  On another note, what a horrible loss to SMU.

I'm a little torn by the Ray Ray story. I mean...he got busted doing drugs, he's unmarried at 21ish with two kids, he dropped out of insurance classes and he's in his third basketball program. There's a definite pattern there, right? At some point he's got to become the problem rather than the victim of circumstance. As a buddy of mine said, it's a little difficult to view Ray Ray as the heroic figure Reusse seems to be trying to portray.

That said, I hope he gets another year at Hamline and ends up getting his degree out of this opportunity. He's a fun player to watch, but it'd be a shame that's all he ends up to be.

Wonka, Brown may not be a "hero" but he has helped Nelli and HU finally break through into a winning season. I thought it a little low what you posted about Ray.  He smoked marijuana, got penalized, and did his time.  He served his sentence and has moved on with a clear history since then, can't we forgive and move on?This is a basketball board, when does having kids outside of marriage matter? Being a father must be a big problem? Its not like he's going to school and planning on graduating with a degree. Let's keep this about basketball and less on what YOU believe is appropriate for a college student/athletes personal life. As far as insurance goes, i'm giving him props for dropping out.  only about 2.5% of insurance students who pass their test work in insurance past 12 months.  I was one of the 97.5% that dsidn't reach my 12 months before exiting the business.  I would have been better off dropping out than spending more money geting my license than i made with it.

PI- why can't we win at SMU! it didn't help that Hipp was sick but that was a huge blow to any chance of us getting to the big dance without winning the tournament.

Wonka, you do make a valid point on the suspension and the 3 seasons he has played in. It will be interseting to see how it all plays out

Why not go into depth?  The penalties appear pretty clear.
QuotePENALTIES: Athletes who test positive for any banned substance are ruled ineligible by their schools for at least 365 days. They also lose one year of eligibility.

WOW--Why all the Hate regarding Ray Brown? Here is a young man who made a mistake. Who hasn't ? He realizes his life is going in the wrong direction, he's out of college, out of work, a father of 2, his father is ill--- and HE makes a decision to turn his life around before things get worse. (Credit Whitmore's staff for recognizing the talent and offering a mentor's hand up). This is a success story isn't it? Ray Brown get's his college education, becomes a productive addition to society, provides for his family, possibly gives back to other young men that are in his situation....AND it's good for the MIAC.

Some of you should be ashamed of yourselves---you know who you are....

Am I missing something here?  Are you condemning the guy who sent the letter to the MIAC office claiming Brown shouldn't be eligible this year, or are you condemning everyone who is trying to figure out how Ray could be granted another year of eligibility?  Nobody on here thought Hamline was wrong to help Ray out.

Some people on here are judging an individual who they know nothing about, other than what they see on the court.  I think one poster crossed the line but I am not on here to argue with ignorant people; on here to talk D3 basketball and the MIAC.
