Aah, my question has been answered.  For those fans who can't get out tonight, both the CARL-HAM & AUG-SJU games will be webcast tonight along with Live Stats, & radio/net broadcasts.

Depending on the work situation, I'm leaning toward setting up the Palmer Sports Center, do Live Stats of one game, & webcast of the other game.  :)

G-man - I like the mystery player or relative unknown angle:  Here are my thoughts:

SJU - Nermin Hujdurovic (sp), Aaron Barmore
AUG - Ben Flavin, Anthony Humphrey, Marcus Brumm

CARL - Scott Theisen, Tommy Sawatzke
HAM - Noah Aguirre, Christian Taber, Nick Carroll

By the way - I noticed on the Hamline site the CSN post-season awards have been released. For some reason they're not on the MIAC website yet.

Hmm.. interesting 2nd team choices.  David Olson from Augsburg over Joe Scott?

John Fraase, Nate Robertson & Bryan Rosett over my boy Jonkey?  It should have been Seth Jonker & Rosett. Guess I'd better go look at some stats.  :o ;)

This could get interesting. GAC's Ryan McPartland & Bryan Rosett put up similar numbers on the season:

McPartland - 11.3 ppg, 5.6 rpg
Rosett - 11.8 ppg, 7.6  rpg

Hmm. WWWS ;)

(personally, I like the Rosett choice, but no Jonker? ;)

I know the board only has a lot of posters from one of the teams playing tonight (HU), but I'm amazed there isn't more attention being given to the matchup in Minneapolis tonight. Is the general opinion that SJU is sliding too fast to grab the Auggies by the tail and pull themselves back up?

I think I may be in the minority in my line of thinking, but I've got SJU by 7 (79-72). I think Burtzel avenges a lack luster performance at AUG a couple weeks ago, Burns and Barmore knock down shots, and Nerman gives some solid interior minutes off the bench.

Also, if Schwartz gets in any considerable groove offensively, the smaller Auggie guards could be in for a world of hurt.

Just wanted to mix it up a little... ;)

HU - I noticed a bunch  :D of Jay posters signed on earlier today (2-3) but none of them posted.

Really, you like the Jays??  I'm torn on this game.  In the two games the two teams played against each other this season, they went 1-1 & the home team won each game by similar scores.  Jays beat the Dawgs 77-62 in C-ville, & the Dawgs returned the favor & won 78-63 in Mpls.

In games against Carleton, the team many posters have said is the hottest team coming into the playoffs, the Jays lost both games against Carleton. In fact they were drilled on the Carlie's home court 84-68.

The Dawgs split with the Knights. They won in OT at home & lost in OT at Northfield.
****
Both games tonight are very intriguing MATCHUPS.

CARLETON  vs. HAMLINE

I'd love to see a double OT thrilla in Northfield.

Ray-Ray has a chance for redemption & has a game for the ages, Hipp goes off, Nick Carroll is dropping dimes, & Aguirre, Taber, Schmidt & crew are wheeling.

For the Knights -a block off the glass by Sutherland, shot blocks by Rosett & Jonker, a creative take by Sutherland from the top of the key, & Jonker displays his infinite variety of moves.

AUGSBURG vs. St. JOHNS

On Cedar- Riverside –it goes nuts!  Jon Cassens' little brother leads his friends in a rousing cheer, the Auggie parent section goes nuts, & the action on the court is fantastic!  Keys to the game will be if the Auggie guards can force Andy Burns & others to turn the ball over & keep it out of Burtzel's hands.

Can Todd Herman maintain his shooting touch & will Aaron Burtzel regain his early –midseason magic?

The way I see it, the way AUG beat SJU last time might work against them. Obviously, SJU is somewhat "backpedaling" into the playoffs, which only adds to the line of thinking that AUG is playing a wounded duck. SJU has a really scrappy bunch (Burns, Burtzel, Herman). I think being an underdog  will fire them up and potentially hand AUG a tougher battle than they are prepared for.

This is ALL speculation, but they way the season has played out thus far, it would be way too comfortable for AUG to handle SJU like they did a couple weeks ago. I've never done the double webcast before. Drake, any pointers for prime spectating ??? :D

Gacman

For the SJU/AUG game may I throw at you DP a player from each team you didn't mention that have been solid contributors in the past but haven't been this season or as of late?

For SJU Schwartz being that guy. Now this maybe wouldn't jump out at people since he was SJU's leading scorer last year but he hasn't scored in double figures since the OT thriller against UST where he scored 19 points, but that was back in early January maybe 12 games ago or so. Him getting into a rhythm offesively could be huge for SJU's chances.

For AUG I'm thinking Quammen. He is only playing 13 minutes a game and averaging 6.2 ppg, but he is shooting 46% from 3's and shot very well last year as well. He isn't afraid to get his shot up and if he can get some shots off early and hit some threes, he can score in bunches and would be a huge lift off the bench.

These are my two unsung heroes of the game tonight.
The second mouse always gets the cheese.

As far as the MVP goes, in looking strictly at numbers, Hipp is my top selection and Brown would be next with Nicolai in third. Will Wright's numbers are good, but you have to be a playoff team to earn an MVP honor in my book.

I know it's your opinion, but if you're looking at strictly numbers then wouldn't Burtzel be in serious contention?

Here's a copy-and-paste from CSN:

Burtzel, a 6’5” junior from Cold Spring (ROCORI HS), led the conference in field goal accuracy (67.3%) and assists (4.85 per game). He was second in rebounding, averaging 9.8 rebounds per game, and was second in both offensive and defensive rebounds. Burtzel finished third in steals (.1.75 per game) and ninth in scoring (13.8 ppg). His 35.60 minutes per game ranked second in the league.

Speaking of CSN... I see that they came out with their awards (link in a post earlier on this page)

I can't say I agree really... I'd say that if you are putting the emphasis on VALUABLE in MVP,  that Brown is more deserving. He really took the Pipers to contender status.

One of the most important keys is to log in early to the game you want to watch on webcast.  A couple of times I've not been able to gain access because I didn't log in early enough & there were too many people on the server.  I'd recommend getting the old computer fired up by no later than 715, 7:20 & have the webcast ready to roll.

Second, just open up a 2nd browser window & go the Live Stats of whichever game you're not watching. (I'm assuming you know that you can't do a Live Webcast of two games at the same time. Well, you can, but the audio signals conflict with each & all you get is gibberish.  Or at least that's been my experience.)

Then sit back & enjoy the games.  I'm a little partial to the Carlie webcast (better video) but I think the AUG-SJU game might be the more exciting game. ;)

G-man- good choices, but personally I don't think of Chris Schwartz & Matthew Quammen as mystery players, or unknowns.  Schwartz was the leading scorer for the Johnnies last year, but has been hampered with an ankle injury the latter part of this season.  Quammen has been a lot like Hamline's Dan Andersen & really can be instant offense. He's a quieter scoring version of SJU's 6th man Sam Blank.

Of course you could question one of my picks of Ben Flavin as a mystery player.   ;)  In any case, I think Flavin & Quammen are greater unknowns than Chris Schwartz.  :D

You can watch two at a time... just turn the sound down on one of them.  Lots of times on game nights I'll have about 7 or 8 tabs running with different games (between live stats, radio broadcasts, and video) but the sound will usually be down on all of them but the game I care about most (usually Stevens Point, unless it's a night like tonight when they aren't playing).

MLP,

Scores at the ten minute mark for the two games are:

Ham   16     Car  11

SJU    16     Aug  18
The second mouse always gets the cheese.

Gacman

Sorry MLP but last post of the night for me. With 4 minutes left in the half for both games.

Carleton is 1-11 on 3's in the first half and Hamline leads carleton 22-19

Augsburg's balanced attack has them up over SJU  33-31.
The second mouse always gets the cheese.

I've been watching the Auggie/Johnnie tilt so I have a question about why Ray Brown hasn't even attempted a shot in the first half for hamline.  He doesn't have any fouls listed by him either.  Did he get hurt?  It looks like two solid games are shaping up for the second half with neither of the games having a team pulling away in the first half.

Drake Palmer

I mostly watched/listened to the AUG-SJU game & don't know what Carleton did to effectively take Ray Brown out of the game.  He played 29 minutes had 6 rebs, 2 assists, 1 block, 1 steal & 9 points.  2-4 from the floor & 5-7 from the FT line.  Hipp had 26 pts 10-13 fga, 6-14 fta, & 7 boards.

Jonker goes off for 26 pts on 12-19 fga, 1-4 3fga, 1-2 fts, & 7 rebs. The other 2, Rosett & Sutherland have sub-par shooting nights but both end up in double digits & make up for their shooting in other ways. Rosett 5-14 fga 3-8 fta, 9 rebs & 3 assists. Sutherland 13 pts, 4-12 fga, 5-6 fta, 5 assists & 4 steals.

City Lutes - Augsburg vs. Country Lutes  - Gustavus down in St. Peter on Thursday night. Should be an excellent game.  Report from the game is that Augsburg is starting to flex some inside muscle to go along with their strong guard play.
