Anderson wins 73-71 over UST.  A UST player hit the heel of the rim from about 40 feet at the buzzer.

buf

Point leads 25-18 over Carleton with 6min left 1st half.  Some tough 3s have kept Carleton in the game thus far

buf

buf

Point lead down to 4, 36-32.  Some great outside shooting by Carleton.

buf

Tied at 40, 12min left, Point has gone cold

buf

Point player hits a 3 with a hand in his face as the shot clock was winding down. Point up one with 25 seconds to go.  Carleton ball

buf

Carleton score to take a 1 point lead.  Point gets fouled on a shot (kind of wild shot).  They hit the 1st, tie game.

John Gleich

Point wins 59-58.  Great game by Carleton.

The last two MIAC Player of the Year recipients combine for 18 points on 8-25 shooting (2-15 from beyond the arc) in the loss to Anderson.   ::) ::)

Interesting to read different accounts of the end of the Point-Carleton game.  From the Knights perspective:
QuoteJeremy Sutherland (Jr./Apple Valley, Minn./St. Bernard's) collided with a Pointer defender driving for the potential game-winning shot--with no foul being called--as the Knights' upset bid against fifth-ranked UW-Stevens Point was snatched away in the final seconds of the NCAA Tournament's first round, 59-58.
The way Point saw it:
QuoteCarleton's Jeremy Sutherland attempted to drive the length of the court but excellent defense by Jared Jenkins (Milwaukee) resulted in a steal from Harris and the Pointers came away with a one point victory.

Interesting notes, Nites. Did anyone make the trip over for a first-hand account? I'm looking at you, cmob.

In closing, let's all be glad that we aren't lamenting three MIAC losses like some of you wanted...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Greek Tragedy

I was underneath the basket at the opposite end.  I think he leaned into the defender, trying to get space or get a foul.  I'm a Pointer fan, so take it how you want.

I heard the radio guys said the same thing, of course, they were the Pointer radio guys too.

The Carleton fans were right there by the bench where it happened.  I'm sure you'll get their biased accounts too!  ::)

nice, nites.   but my favorite quote came from carleton's website game wrap.   ". . . but fortunately for the Knights the non-call was serendipitous as the ball came right to Jonker . . ."
i would call that a clear-cut case of carleton flexing it's academic muscle in the face of it's "public school" opponent.   ;)

Good point Nites. I was thinking the same thing. UST has overcome a lack of offensive firepower in the paint all year, but it really hurt them last night with Nicolai and Scott both experiencing poor shooting nights from 3 point land. It reminded me of those Mavs down your way when playoff time comes :) Nice effort by Healy, but not enough to balance out a very lackluster offensive performance by the rest of the squad. Other than last year's nice run by UST, another early exit year for the MIAC, although I don't think most of us are not terribly surprised. If I were voting in the polls next year, I would need to see a significant non-conference victory to put a MIAC team in the top 5 again.
