Not basketball, but board-worthy smack talking nonetheless. ::) ;D

Last fall, a British "man of letters", Lord Christopher Monckton spoke at Bethel University and in his lecture, expressed his reservations regarding global climate change/global warming.  John Abraham, a UST mechanical engineering professor, and "expert" on heat transfer & climate change heard Monckton's lecture on YouTube & decided to set the "record straight."  Abraham then recorded his own video rebuttal & posted it on YouTube to call out Lord Monckton's "misstatements."  Apparently this angered Lord "know it all" & the last several months he's been pulling out the heavy verbal artillery, posted his own YouTube counter rebuttal, & both parties have threatened potential legal action.

From the Tribune, here are a couple of "Lord Low Brow's highlights:

"...For his part, Monckton has fired back in a YouTube interview clip, calling Abraham "a wretched little man," the University of St. Thomas "a half-assed Catholic bible college," and its president, the Rev. Dennis Dease, "a creep."
 :o ;)

I won't quote it, but he gets a bit mouthier in the Pioneer Press article.

Anybody's interested, here's the Trib's article..

Why does Bethel always get involved off-season controversy?   ;)

Apparently no one cares, Drake  ;)

In unrelated MIAC news...

Willy Wonka just doubled the competition in an eating contest at the Cobber Corn Feed in Rochester. Definitely his proudest moment in a long time. He even got to threaten that his alma mater will ruin CC's Homecoming football game, which drew some hearty boos :)

And Pat 'T-Shirt' McKenzie somehow got selected as head coach for the USA D3 all-star team that recently played in Brazil. Burtzel joined him, but the SJU website isn't updated to reflect how they finished up...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

At this time of year - nobody seems to care 'bout nuthin.

More meaningless, idle chatter...

MIAC t-shirt & memorabilia spottings: This past weekend I took a short break & left the sultry, near tropical climes of the twin cities, & headed up the north shore & the cooling breezes off Lake Superior. On the way up I had to drop off some work at an office in Minnetonka, & rode down the elevator in silence with another middle-aged guy with a St. Johns t-shirt.  Later that night in Grand Marais I spotted a Pipers t-shirt on a college aged guy eating dinner with his family at a popular restaurant.  Then to cap off the night I saw a strapping football player type, wearing a Cobber backpack and strolling with his girlfriend down the streets of downtown Grand Marais.

Willy- based on his size, I'm thinking the Cobbs have been eating plenty more corn & they'll easily defeat your Gusties on the football field this fall. And besides, the only reason you could eat that much corn at the Cobber Corn feed is because 100% (?) Cobber blood courses through your veins.

No one heard yet?  Larson decides to take a non-coaching job after his fourth year in the MIAC. Dos at Hamline, and dos with the Cobbers.  Good luck to him in his new endeavor.

Prophet - I'm baaack  ;)

Good scoop on Mr. Larson.  I will add to your story with a little knowledge myself.  A little birdie told me recently that Mr. Larson has been replaced by MSU-Mankato assistant coach Gameli Ahelegbe.

USA vs Spain was a great game with a great finish.I know that team USA is young and not an actual cohesive NBA team, but Rubio is playing extremely well against some of the top NBA players.  He has great court vision.  I'm excited about the future of the wolves, if he actually plays here.

Willy Wonka

I definitely watched that game, too. Rubio more than held his own, which was nice to see.

And now for a few laughs to liven up these boards...

After staying two years at St. Olaf, Mac, Ham, and then 4 at Bethel, Dan Perrel resigned as Associate head Coach at Bethel.  Anybody have any news on who is his replacement at Bethel this season?  Is the search still on?

ChairmanYao

Word has it that a Mr. Eric Clute has returned from his attempted stint in the NSIC and has returned to the MIAC--St. Thomas. In other news, rumor is Ray Brown is currently working out to play overseas. Best of luck to him.
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin' back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" .....Jesus Shuttlesworth

Given the speed with which the BU website is typically updated, we may find out by Christmas  :P

Under a month away from the start of the season, and no chatter????  Isn't there usually a D1 player transferring into UST about this time of year?  What about up in SJU, how many players will be grinding it out for a Varsity spot this year???? 40....50?  There are a lot of big holes on a lot of teams that need to be filled this year.

Prof - Thanks for the posting effort.  The board's been rather dead for the past 4-6 weeks or so. Let's hope it picks up in the weeks to come. Heck, even the T-wolves are starting preseason practice tomorrow.

A couple of very minor items (Posting Kindling Sticks):  While scanning other boards for any sign of basketball life I came across this little nugget.

UST's Tyler Nicolai named Preseason 2nd team AA

Apparently this bit of news was so insignificant that the normally well-oiled, & prolific Sports Information department at UST failed to announce this news.

And Yao, no big surprise that Eric Clute transfers back, but to UST?  I would think he would want to be the Whale rather than a serviceable walleye in UST's pool & school of fish.   ;)

Alright since no one else is on the board, I'm going to humor myself.  ::) ;D

My sentence with the phrase "school of fish" reminded me of this favorite grunge song from the early 90s.  Does anyone else remember this?  :D
