Per the game notes on the UST website, Friday's games will be a split session... so there shouldn't be any problem with tickets.

I was thinking that was interesting since when Carleton was down there in 2006 the place held 3,000+. But after checking Augie's website, it renovated the place in 2008 and downsized from 3,200 to 1,900, so this makes sense.

Should be an interesting match-up. Looks like I'll be heading over to Mankato to do some broadcasting of the DII Regional at MSU. My hometown school, Fort Lewis, is the second seed in the D2 bracket. If you guys complain about the travel, seeding and lack of flying maybe you should check out the D2 brackets. They stick to regions (regardless of travel), but seeding as well. Fort Lewis will be playing Mesa State for the third time in two weeks! If they win, the Skyhawks will face yet another RMAC foe.

So the tourney pairings/site issues aren't limited to D3.

Good luck to the Tommies tonight versus my Pointers... should be another great game!

I caught this story in the Chicago Tribune about a UST Math Professor's actions at a Golden Gophers gymnastics meet...

I wonder if a MIAC school has had three players win player of the year honors in one season?

Men's Hockey: Won both the MIAC regular season and tournament championships. Chris Berenguer is the MIAC men's hockey player-of-the-year. Seven Hamline players were named all-conference. Hamline advances to play at #1-ranked St. Norbert in the NCAA quarterfinal game this Saturday, March 12, at 7 p.m. The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the NCAA Final Four at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, March 25 and 26.

Men's Basketball: The Pipers hosted their first home playoff game since the 1984-85 season, finishing third in the conference. Carl Hipp was the MIAC men's basketball athlete-of-the-year and was voted to play in the NABC D-III All-Star Game.

Women's Basketball: Mary Wilkowski was named the MIAC women's basketball player-of-the-year and is a Jostens Trophy finalist for the second year in a row.

Tommies win, 66-64. Great game. UWSP tied it up with 18 seconds left on a trey, but Nicolai answered with a layup with two seconds left to win the game.

I'd really like to see a Point/Augustana matchup.

I didnt know there was a 3rd place game in each Section!  :)

Awesome job by UST in establishing control of the game early on and setting the tempo. Once the lead hit double digits I was thinking "blow out!!" but a great comeback by UWSP. But the rally was not enough to overcome Nicolai, whos aces in must-do situations...Healy with superb night, and Hannon ruled the paint with clutch help from Ervin.

Lets see...UST 3, WIAC 0. Looks about right :)

good point Greg...that would be the only way he'd see his UWSP-Augie matchup. Doesnt matter to me who wins the 2nd game tonight. I think my bracket has Augie winning tonight but losing tomorrow

UST vs. Augie could be one heckuva defensive battle.

Good luck to the Tommies.  I'm in the school of thought that I want the team that beat me to win it all...unless it's a rival.

I'd love to see history...an All West of the Mississippi River Final with someone from the "west" finally winning one.

Wow – I'm guessing Tyler Nicolai must like playing against CCIW teams!  He had 24 Pts against Illinois Wesleyan last Saturday & 28 pts tonight on some unreal shooting against the much taller Augustana Vikings tonight.  Plus some pretty sweet defense too.  Congratulations to Nicolai & the rest of the Tommie team, coaches & fans for the first return trip to the Final Four since 1994!  Good ups all!!

Color me impressed!!! ;)

I don't recall seeing any of Miacmaniac's supposed Final 4 pick'em's in print before the actual results were posted ;)
Congrats to the Tommie squad on an excellent performance to reach the Final 4.
I'm not sure I agree with with Miacmaniac's optimistic forecast regarding the final four outcome, but given my excellent pickems record this year, I wouldn't dare jinx the Tommies by picking against them :) ;) ::)

You know its March Madness when ...

After a Princeton player hit the game winning buzzer shot against Harvard for the Ivy League conference tourney win & automatic berth into the NCAA yesterday, a crowd of players & fan rushed the court in the school colors of orange & black & mobbed the player.  Among them was one fan dressed from top to bottom in a bright orange speed skating uniform along with an orange back pack.  I was howling with laughter!!  Where's Cmob when you need him?

Mebbe Mose can talk to some of the UST students & get a couple of them to wear buy some purple speed skating tights for the tilt in Salem next weekend.
