SUMMIT!!!!!

Superfan- there are two that jump out at me immediately: Mike Wrobel, one of the best rebounders in the league, went from Concordia to UST, and Matt Arnold was St Olaf's 2nd leading scorer before transferring to UST. Both of these were n the late 90s. There may be others, but it is extremely rare when an All-MIAC caliber player makes the intra-conference switch. Even at the "non-star" level, it is rare unless they drop from playing.

Wrobel's transfer was particularly bittersweet. His bucket in the final seconds of his final game as a Cobber beat the Tommies in (old) Schoenecker.

Nicolai needs 13 points today to pass Bill Roddy for 10th place in UST's all-time scoring list; 16 will move him past Fred Korba into 9th place.

It REALLY stinks that this game isn't televised. SO typical of the way the NCAA disrespects D-III. I suppose we should just be happy to have a championship game. I'm not advocating prime time, but I notice that truTV , TBS and TNT 's cameras will all be idle this afternoon....you'd think one of them could be showing what should be a classic battle between two of the 3 winningest programs in Division III history!

It will be interesting to see/hear the "spin" coming from the Whitmore regime on why they're losing quality players there - past and present - during his tenure.

Holy Cow!  I go out of town for Spring Break and come back to find out the Tommies are in the championship game.  Way to go Tommies!

Before this current run through the tournament, how would you rate this UST team against the other UST teams going back 5 or 6 years to the teams with Rosefelt and Schnettler?  I probably would put this team behind all of the others.  Does their tournament run change that?

That era had really good posts as you mentioned with Rosefelt and McCoy to an extent as well as solid wings Lonnie Robinson and Mike Keating. but probably not as good of a point guard. What that group didn't have was a point guard like a Nicolai. Sean Sweeney was solid before this group - but Brett Tuma and Andrew Dwyer made them vulnerable.

If I'm not mistaken, Sweeney overlapped with Schnettler and Rosefelt for at least a year, didn't he? They then added Keating, but maybe Sweeney had graduated by then.  I thought those teams were potential Final Four teams each year.  After losing Joe Scott, I'm not sure this year's team was expected to be as good as last year.  They certainly didn't dominate in conference play like they have in other years.

What a shame that MIAC co-champion Carleton didn't even get a ticket to the dance.

SUMMIT!!!!!

Nites-  its been discussed ad nauseum on here but the shame is that Carelton didnt get it done. they knew (or should have known) they'd need to win over GAC to be assured a berth. If you dont win, you dont get in.

the only ones who knew that were the selection committee, as nearly every other d3 genius had carleton in despite the loss to gac.

39-18  Wooster can't comeback twice in two days, right?

Gregory Sager

That was an amazing first half by the Tommies. Still, I wouldn't count out Wooster just yet. A lot can happen in twenty minutes; I've seen bigger leads than this one melt in half the amount of time.

Looks like the MIAC is going to get its first-ever national title in D3 men's basketball.

It'd take an absolute miracle for Wooster to come back, and UST is answering every Scots basket.

NCAA cred!  ;)

Congrats to the Tommies on a great run! I don't think any of us believed that this team was title-bound. Solid, yes, 20-point victors in a championship, good? Probably not. Go MIAC!!!
