Monday Morning PG

Ironic isn't it?  Most posters typically show up when their team is faring well.  Hamline posters show up to take pot shots at each other, the coaching staff, & when their team is struggling.  Last spring when Coach LA & the Pipes made their late season run, I don't think you could find a single Hamline poster celebrating their successes.  ???

Nice win by Augsburg the other night over Houston Baptist. Although based on last season's record of 5-26, HBU was not a powerhouse team.  However, a win over any D-1 team is a very nice feather to put in the Auggie cap. Good upps Dawgs!

Non hoops related.  I came across this nugget while reading the Tribune's sports section yesterday:

Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy is taking heat for not tailoring Denver's offense to fit Tim Tebow's strengths. Considering he's got a fullback playing quarterback, McCoy probably is doing the best he can.

Cracked me up.  I almost spit up coffee on the newspaper.  :D

Day Two - Non related hoops post:

SMU  Roster is posted, otherwise known as "The Smurfs of the South." Seven incoming new FY & 5 of them are six feet are shorter.  5-8, 5-9, 5-10, 5-11 & 6-0.

The two players that are over 6 feet tall are 6-2 & 6-5.  Hope they're quick & can play ball.  :-\ Their exhibition game against CSTP on Wednesday night could be brutal.

Day Four at Bethel - The team preview is up & still no current roster. Hunh? How embarrassing.

So what team rosters have not been updated besides Bethel? I'd like to put out my predictions...

Sorry Killa – you're gonna have to hold off for another day or so with those predictions, just like I'll have to hold off on the All-FY Name team.   ;D

Bethel & Concordia are the dubious winners of this year's annual MIAC Roster Hall of Shame. As you know, Bethel has their season preview listed without a team roster.  The Cobbs have actually played an exhibition game without their roster posted.  Concordia got drilled by NDSU the other day -90 something to 40 something.  Interesting sidebar.  Gemeli Ahlegbhe (sp) the Cord assistant coach in charge of recruiting added 2 JC transfers who were starters in the first game the other night.  SO forward Manani Beavers, from Aghlebe's old high school – Tartan HS, & JR (?) PG Dewon McKenzie, from Robbinsdale Cooper & or Columbia Heights HS.

For the record –the MIAC is 1-4 in exhibition games against D-II & D-I opponents this season.  Aside from the Dawgs upset win, UST,GAC, SJU, & now Cord have been handled in their games.

Wow, our little city league team is taller. Not quick, but taller.

Manani Beavers, Levi Abercrombie, and Dylan Hale ... those are some well-regarded recruits. Props to Concordia.

Maybe it's just me, but the roster almost looks odd without Fraase! I always liked his game.

Gameli Ahelegbe's recruiting class at Concordia Moorhead must have impressed a few others. He is now an assistant at UND in Grand Forks.

Dylan Hale is not at Concordia.  He is playing for NDSU.

Oops! That would in fact be a fantastic recruiting class. My mistake, I got mixed up while reading the box score.

Earlier this evening Drake was tipped off by one of the anonymous followers (AF) of the MIAC & board to a huge early season showdown taking place at the new Shoe.

11/30/2011    *   St. Thomas       St. Olaf       St. Paul, Minn. (UST)   7:30 p.m.

No doubt, this game could be an early season indicator if there will be a tectonic shift with the forces of power in the MIAC this season.  Could this be the year Coach Koz gets the big purple & blue, gold & black, (UST, CARL & GAC) gorilla off his back?

AF also suggested that we should have a Posters' pre-game gathering at Shamrocks on West 7th for a burger & bevie. Apparently this month's burger special - "Two Guys From St. Paul" is outstanding!!  Two hand formed beef patties grilled & covered with Swiss & Cheddar cheese, plus pastrami & grilled onions.  In addition you get fresh cut french fires, & onion rings for the recession proof price of $7.50.  Sounds delish!!

I'm in.  I'll be the anonymous guy in the other corner of the restaurant.  ;)

We should get a show of hands to see who might be there - Mose, Pops, Jquentint, mebbe anonymous Drake, anyone else?

Wonka, AO, Kilroy, Aero, NCA11, Abominable Snowman, GacMan others...

Supe –& don't forget SofaKing, Kel Varnsen, CMob,& Funballer etc.   Yeah it was fun when those guys were around.  But all it would take is for someone to start spouting off again on a regular basis & the rest of us could feed off the semi-intelligible homer comments & trash talking.  Perhaps you could take a stab at this role for awhile.   :o ;D

In other news, as expected, SMU got drilled by CSTP last night 115-75.  However, Donny Nadeau SID at SMU certainly tried to put a positive spin on the press release.  Pat Freeman scored 27 pts & Michael Burfeind added 18 pts.  I guess in the overall scheme of things, a 40 point loss isn't that bad when you consider that both GAC & UST lost by 32 points to Winona State.

In other MIAC non-conference action, Coach LA & the Pipes play a 2nd exhibition game tonight as they take on MN-Crookston over at Hutton arena.

SW Minnesota State 78, St. Olaf 67, Nov. 8

Oles shoot a mind-blowing 9-for-11 from 3-point range in the first half. Southwest shoots better than 60% from the field and misses only six shots total (3 from beyond arc) in the first half--not sure if that's an indictment of the Oles' defense or just talent disparity. I would guess more of the latter than the former.
