Gym seats approximately 1,800 people.  They are reserving 745 tickets apiece for Gustavus and Wheaton, which leaves 350 tickets for the general public. Tickets will go sale Wednesday morning at 8:00AM. I've got to believe the Gusties will come close to using up all of their allotment, but I'm not so certain about the Sonic Air Disturbance aka Wheaton Thunder.   Sensei  - how well do the Thunder travel?

Not that well, unless it's a game at North Central or Elmhurst, the two other CCIW schools in DuPage County, both of which are 15 minutes from the Wheaton campus. I can almost guarantee that Wheaton won't sell 745 ducats, especially since it's a six-and-a-half-hour haul up I-90 and I-94 from the Land of Billy Graham.

I'm surprised that the UWRF people are basing their ticket sales upon a 1,800-person stated capacity for Karges. I've never been in that gym, but the folks in the WIAC room insist that the capacity of Karges is much smaller than that.

Drake - someone mentioned this on the WIAC board, but I would think you'd be able to walk up to the early game and buy a ticket on Friday night.  I would feel less comfortable about the late game, but it's hard to see them completely selling out with a split session.

I've been in Karges when the posted attendance was over 1,800 and it was not comfortable at all.  They have changed the way they set up the scorer's table, radio tables, etc over the last few years, so I would guess 1,600 is about the max that could fit in there now.  The  highest attendance this year was 1,300, and there was some room in the corners, but not much.  Keep in mind the UWRF women play the same night and WI high school regional play resumes Friday, with almost every WI high school in the area playing a game that night.  Might limit the attendance somewhat.

Tough draw for the Gusties - Wheaton will be tough. Tim McCrary for Wheaton is suppose to be a stud. 1-2 time All American.

I think STO, Hamline or UST has played Claremont in their trips out to California. Similar style to the Gusties?
Twas Olaf (Oles lost a fairly close one)....you can bet JT has been in touch with Koz for tips/info....and Im sure CMS coaches have done same with P-P, which lost to UST

Wheaton is a tough draw, no question.... and CMS is no slouch. the MIAC drew some tough opening round games and then likely battles with the WIAC co-kingpins.

VOJ-- care to ride shotgun with me on Friday?  :) We can stop in RF and pick up DP and he can give us the highlights of TH's barnburner  ;) (and yes DP I am only tweaking you)

If you were bringing chicken...maybe...Good luck to both programs representing Minnesota GAC and Northwestern...whoops I mean all three, Tommies nearly slipped my mind  ::)

For Mose's sake I trust he's not getting ahead of himself on that chicken thing.  ;D  He needs to buy, transport, & consume that magical Kim's chicken at his home, or wherever he might be watching the Tommie –CMS tilt on Friday night.

Then, if there's a basketball game for the Tommies on Saturday, stop by & get some more Kim's, or pick some up for takeout on the drive to Whitewater. In addition to satisfying Mose's superstition and dining needs, I understand the ahem...residual fumes from the chicken will provide a little extra boost, and help improve his car's gas mileage on his drive to Whitewater.  :-* :)

All MIAC awards are out, & in no surprise, Seth Anderson is named MVP/POY.  Congratulations!

And in no surprise, the coaches not only don't have the guts to name 3 All Conference teams, they name 17 players to the All Conference list. Weak.

When you add in all the various categories for which they're honoring players, I counted over 40 players receiving one award or another. That's almost 75% of all the starters from around the league. That's ridiculous!

Well, hey, isn't Minnesota the place where "all the children are above average"? ;D

Just re-posting from the WIAC board for anyone who can't make it to River Falls on Friday night.

From the small world of D3 basketball...Over the noon hour I decided to stop in at my bank in downtown St. Paul to do some banking rather than using the ATM machine.  During the course of a brief conversation with the young bank teller she asked me if I had plans for the weekend.  I told her that I might be watching a basketball game tonight.  She then asked me which teams I planned on watching.  I modestly replied – "oh, it's just small college basketball; Gustavus College is playing Wheaton College from IL in the NCAA D3 tournament in River Falls.

She laughed and replied -  "I'm familiar with Wheaton.  My sister married a former basketball player from Wheaton and he was a co-captain his senior year.  Michael Fiddler. He graduated from Wheaton in 2007."

Wow, what a pleasant surprise. So we chit chat a little bit longer, and she wished me well watching the games tonight.  So I head back to the office and look him up, and sure enough there he was. Michael Fiddler, All–CCIW & Academic All American class of 2007.

Small world! I hope this coincidental encounter doesn't send bad karma the Gusties' way.
