The Tommies apparently looked pretty good according in their scrimmage against St Cloud State last night according to one Husky fan on the d2 message boards.

And let me tell you, it was not pretty from an SCSU standpoint. Very glad that they didn't keep score. SCSU had two guys, Levandoski and Craggs who were in street clothes. They didn't do much inside and couldn't hit a jumper to save their lives. I think that at one point I counted 5 consecutive lay-ups/dunks. And the Huskies didn't handle the press very well. Oh well, the boys seemed as if they enjoyed playing together as a team. And as long as they are having fun and representing the college well, thats what really matters.

If you've got a sec before the season, here's some of the work being created at one your MIAC  institutions!

Interesting project, but that came out of Carleton University, a Canadian institution, not Carleton College (Minn.).

Sorry for the mix-up!

I'm at the hospital (just had our third boy early yesterday morning!) and they've got the site blocked.

The reason?

Reason:

According to the hospital network, the category "Tasteless" is filtered.   :D

Probably because they want to discourage patients from posting online reviews of the hospital food.

In regards to young Shved, I have heard that he didn't make the varsity and decided to quit instead of playing JV

No worries, and more importantly, congrats! You have your own 3v3 team now. Hope everyone is doing well.

Umm, I realize we haven't really begun a lot of posting activity for the 13-14 season, but I posted that information last week.  ;)

Tommie roster posted.   http://www.tommiesports.com/mbb/roster/

Notable freshmen additions - 6-4 Ryan Johnson from Eagan, and sharpshooter 6-1 Dustin Fronk from 2013 state championship team Apple Valley.   Another freshman recruit is hard-nosed PG Grant Schaeffer from Eden Prairie. Schaeffer was the starting QB on the football & PG on the Eden Prairie teams.  Any insight on Jordan Burich, the 6—6 FY from Roseville?

No word regarding Jon Veil, the FY PG from Blake that Kilroy mentioned in an earlier post, nor Alexey Shved's younger brother.

Word I received over the weekend was that the Gusties' Peter Kruize had several D2 offers & was a real nice pickup for Gustavus.  In fact, Kruize may contend for a spot in the starting lineup this season, & possible post season All MIAC FY team honors.  We'll see.

In other news, Augsburg & Bethel now have their rosters posted.  The Dawgs appear to have basically the same roster from last year, plus a couple of FY recruits from Colorado.  Coach Griess must be working his Colorado connections from his playing days at Colorado College.   If the FY pan out & some of the other underclassmen develop, they could potentially mount a strong attack to challenge UST for the league title.

Bethel might be hurting a bit this year.  Other than undersized Kyle Zimmerman in the post, not much depth in the front court, & a lack of experience at the guard spots.

SMU Redbirds are still only showing an iron man 6 for their 2013-2014 roster.

Jon Veil still has a year of HS left, many JV players aren't listed yet, don't know why.

And after your earlier post I had an earlier post. Eight players now added ;)

Thanks for keeping us updated on those additional JV players.  I might have to go check them out.    ::) :)

Has it really come to this?  Quibbling over JV players, minutiae in the sea of basketball?  Sheesh.  :D  I need to get home so I can watch Kentucky/ Michigan State, Duke & Kansas.

Joey Sonnenfeld is a very big addition for Augsburg.  Played football at NDSU the last couple years, is playing football for Augs now but will be on the team.  Like a more skilled Brett Sorensen, who played for Augs a couple years ago.

No word regarding Jon Veil, the FY PG from Blake that Kilroy mentioned in an earlier post, nor Alexey Shved's younger brother.

Veil is just a HS senior. Shved Jr. was in a tough spot... I told him to try Hamline or Augsburg if he wanted to play varsity somewhere, but he was attracted to St. Thomas' business program. Besides, with the way his brother is playing and the rumors floating, he may not be living in Minnesota much longer.

Burich is listed on the TommieSports.com roster. I thought Ryan Johnson would have been a JV guy... I like O'Hara a lot on their JV and Quinn is an athletic freak out of Stillwater. I thought Bethel had him... Sullivan is tall but a bit soft.

Drake, Schumacher is "traveling the country in a van, preaching the word of God" (direct quote from someone). Too bad that a 6-8 kid, state tournament participant and top 50 recruit couldn't wait until after school for that, or at least not during basketball season. SMU didn't do too badly... in Landrum's first season (2008), he could only pull in Bruno, Kunkel and Goolsby, all Chicago kids. Bruno left after a good season, Kunkel shot a legendary 9% from the field his senior year (I am not kidding, look at this: http://saintmaryssports.com/custompages/mbball/2011/teamcume.htm#TEAM.IND) and Goolsby never played.

Rusthoven grabbed a top-60 kid from Waconia in Wiley Ferron, he's a 6-5 PF. He also grabbed Bakari Collins from Kenosha (Wis.), a smaller PG from Ohio and some other pieces. I think they'll end up with 12 on the roster when it's finalized.

A couple hot MIAC recruiting names I've spoken with this week are Rob Tobroxen of Apple Valley (Olaf, Carleton), Grant Steele of Minnetonka (Olaf, Carleton) and Kyle Dahlstrom of Rochester JM (SMU, Bethel, Mac, UST). Watch for Eli Rockett of Farmington (his AAU coach said he was Bethel's top big man recruit, they've had him on campus a couple times) and Tim Hanson of Mounds View (recruited by Carleton, Bethel and Macalester).

Burich is a rebounding machine from Roseville that served as their primary big man last year on a very good team.  He was HEAVILY recruited by the MIAC.  I'm actually a bit surprised he ended up on JV and not varsity. Johnson is an uber-athlete, has a chance to be an elite defender at this level.  He's skinny, but his upside is very high.

I find it interesting that you decided to disparage a kid who played in 81 games in college (Kunkel) to prove your point that some guys who have NEVER PLAYED A GAME are better "pulls".  They may prove to be, but let's let them play a few games before we anoint them as effective college players.  Also, it is widely known that Wiley Ferron was committed to UW Platteville before he came to SMU.  He is a good get, but lots of coaches would find the practice of taking a player committed to your old school with you to your new school a bit suspect.

Tobroxen is a great shooter, long - he will be a great MIAC get for someone.  Steele is a super high academic big man that will get a lot of run for a good Minnetonka team this year.  Tim Hanson is a lunch pail 4 man that can shoot it.  I think he will be a fantastic MIAC player.

My predicted order of finish:

1. UST
2.  AUG
3. SJU
4. STO
5. GAC
6. CORD
7. CAR
8. HAM
9.  BET
10. MAC
11. SMU

looks good but thinking St. Olaf could surprise some folks....
