CMob - Gotta love the guys who turn to look at you with annoyed glances when you're actually talking basketball at a game as they look pretty...but then go crazy when Ike throws down and look back with a smile on their faces.

tru dat WW...my favorite is to walk past the student section on my to my seats behind my teams bench and they all stare at me like im from another planet because im wearing a hooded sweatshirt with my teams name on it....but then again i think i am from another planet ;)

i think i saw those dudes in that picture walking into the stadium with umbrellas up when it was snowing to protect their hair and clothes and they kept asking each other "how do i look"

Watchmen, The thought had actually crossed my mind about taking the MAC/CON tilt. We will have to see what tomorrow brings.

I think the next two games will be very important for MAC"S hopes. They need a 4-2 finish to end up at 9-11. They play SJU GAC and CAR so you gotta think the is a loss in at least two if not three games. SJU is the only toss up in my opinion. They will beat AUG though. ;)

Watchmen, I don't think that is going to happen. With 4 out of 5 starters out I think your high school team could beat them.

It's crunch time in the MIAC race for the playoffs.  Here's my take on tonight's match-ups.

Hamline vs. St. Olaf @ Metrodome - I expect the dome to be  fairly empty, although I did find out that it's free admission for all, although you must go through a certain gate and I still don't know which one it is.  The Oles are coming off a tough loss at MAC and the Pipers off a bye-game.  The winner of this game will likely be the team that shoots over 35% and gets to the free-throw line.   I'll take Hamline to win, mainly due to their quickness across the board.

Carleton @ Gustavus - "the game of the night."  GAC has not played well lately and if Mr. Olson is out I think it becomes virtually impossible for them to stop the Knights winning streak.  That is unless TeBrake can score 30+ or he and Mr. Wittwer can combine for something like 50+.  I'll take Carleton to make it 12 in a row.

St. Thomas @ Augsburg - I feel for the Auggies.  UST is riding high and taking people behind the woodshed.  The Tommies will win by a bunch in this one.

Saint Mary's @ Bethel - Interesting game that has playoff implications.  SMU has played terrible on the road all season and Bethel, for the most part, has played well at home.  Mr. Perry and Mr. Bjorklund will need to make some shots if the Royals are going to win.  Either way the difference will probably be who plays better on the inside, because both teams get up a lot of shots, particulary 3's.  I'll take Bethel in a close one.

Macalester @ Concordia - The "MASH" unit known as the Cobbers apparently lost another in Mr. Citterman this week.  If true, I don't see how the Cobbers can keep this game close.  MAC also has some momentum after their come from behind win over St. Olaf on Monday.  I'll take the Scots to win.

Drake--

I was hoping Mr. Bush last night would inspire you to give a State of the Conference posting in here.  And hey, take 10 paragraphs if you need to.

OAS – thanks, but no thanks.   Mebbe at the end of the season after I've finished assisting with the final revisions on the Libertarians' Official Response & Rebuttal to the White House!  ;)

Perhaps you could exhort some of our senior posters/columnists to weigh in on the issues, challenges & opportunities that lie ahead for the MIAC.  The esteemed Mr. Mose, Wonka, CMob, Funbb, Local & yourself?...

But since you asked, let me respond in the words of Al Davis, owner of the Oakland Raiders -

"JUST WIN BABY!"

According to the Metrodome's website, the St. Olaf/Hamline game tonight is FREE admission and gates open at 6:30 PM and entrance is through Gate F.

I don't know if I'll be able to make this one, but I'm going to try my best.  Are any of the "usual" posters going?

Drake - I may be getting old but I don't know if I've reached "senior" poster status.  :D

As I posted on pick em board, I think the winner of tonight's St. Olaf/Hamline matchup will be which ever team adjusts to the atmosphere. Other than the NCAA regionals, basketball is rarely played at the Metrodome. The rims will be extremely tight, and the floor will be very awkward to play on, much like the St. Paul Civic Center was when the state high school basketball tournament was played there. It's also going to be different playing in a smaller portion of a huge arena/stadium, so it could be easy to get lost in how big the place is compared to when it's used for football or baseball. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? I think the Oles take this one tonight.

A man can dream can't he. I just want to see oAs' Scots go 4-1 in the last five if they lose this one tonight. It is getting pretty interesting though.......it will be close in the end.

Ok, I'll take a stab at it:

Mr. McKane, Executive Assistant Ten Haken, Members of Conference, Members of the NCAA Committee and diplomatic corps, distinguished guests, and fellow citizens:

This season our conference lost several beloved, graceful, and courageous basketball players who called the MIAC to its founding ideals and carried on a noble dream. Tonight we are comforted by the hope of a glad reunion with the teams they were taken from so long ago, and we are grateful for the good careers of Keith Eckhoff and Brad Liddell.

Each time I am invited to this message board, I am humbled by the privilege, and mindful of the history we have seen together. We have gathered on this electronic message board in moments of conference mourning and conference achievement. We have cheered the MIAC through one of the most consequential periods of its history -- and it has been my honor to cheer with you.

On a board of numerous fans, numerous schools, and numerous games, there will always be differences and debate. But even tough debates can be conducted in a civil tone, and our differences cannot be allowed to harden into anger. To confront the great issues before us, we must act in a spirit of good will and respect for one another -- and I will do my part. Tonight the state of our conference is strong -- and together we will make it stronger.

In this decisive year, you and I will make choices that determine both the future and the character of our conference. We will choose Carleton to win the conference -- or retreat from our duties in the hope of an easier choice--St. Thomas. We will choose to build our prosperity by expanding to eight playoff teams -- or shut ourselves off from inclusion and opportunity. In a complex and challenging season, the road of isolationism and protectionism may seem broad and inviting -- yet it ends in danger and decline. The only way to protect our teams ... the only way to secure the parity ... the only way to control our tournament destiny is by our leadership -- so the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will continue to lead.

Abroad, our conference is committed to an historic, long-term goal -- we seek the end of first round playoff exits. Some dismiss that goal as misguided idealism. In reality, the future security of the MIAC depends on it. On March 3, 2005, we found that problems originating in failed and invisible defense down in St. Peter could bring distaste and embarrassment to our conference. Schools like Lawrence play smothering defense, shoot the lights out, and seek lopsided victories. Every step toward playoff success in the NCAAs makes our conference stronger, and so we will act boldly.

Shall I cont...
