Good effort by the Tommies last night and freshman were dominate in the game for UST.  I am pretty sure that the athletic director at CSS went to the local bar and asked for a volunteer to do the webcast play-by-play.  At one point during the game, UST and CSS were hitting threes and the play-by-play guy said, and I quote "I have watched The Game of Thrones, but this is the first time I am seeing The Game of Three's."  The play-by-play was so bad, that I couldn't put it on mute - just had to hear what was coming next.

Any insight on La Crosse's upset win over St. John's. Definitely a surprise.

Current Bucks assistant coach and former Tommie Sean Sweeney and the Greek Freak made the news today when they disagreed on if it was too early to play Christmas music.

Definitely.  Sounds like SJU went ice cold to close out the game.  Bethel managed to UWL on Saturday in a game that seemed to have the opposite ending, with La Crosse going cold to close it out.

Seems to set the stage for what should be a solid game between SJU and BU on Saturday.

Oh, wow.  I had seen replays of the interaction, but didn't know about the UST connection.

My other thought is that if you share this over on the football board, Giannis (SP?) will have some new fans among the SJU faithful...

Hahaha I got a good chuckle out of this!

I didn't watch the Johnnie LaCrosse game but from the looks of it they were uncharacteristically cold from beyond the arch. Tough loss going into conference play. SJU vs. BU will be really fun!

Week 1 of regular season top 25 poll is up!

Although a MIAC team is not featured in the top 25, St. Thomas, St. John's and Bethel all are in the Others Receiving Votes category, in that order. I was wondering if Bethel was going to make it on some ballots, and they received 13 points, rightfully so. These three teams are the obvious class of the MIAC this year, which order will be the tough part to figure out.

Other west teams of note:
1. Whitman (NWC) *Unanimous number 1*
13. Whitmworth (NWC)
14. Wartburg (IIAC)
ORV Nebraska Wesleyan (IIAC)
ORV Loras (IIAC)

No real surprises so far, those 8 teams are were all projected to be at the top of their respective conferences

I voted for all three and even thought about Carleton.  I'm looking forward to MIAC conference nights this winter, especially with the Roku channel going this year.

I think Carleton is flying under the radar, which is kind of amazing for a team with 16 straight regular season wins.  Yes, they lost Gillespie, but they have a good group of guards.  They crushed Platteville last week (they were up 30 when I was watching, I know the final was a lot closer).  Big game for them at River Falls Saturday.

Carleton also beat Colorado College who is going to be one of the better teams in their conference this year. With Freddie Gillespie this team would be UBER tough, but even without them they are very solid. I haven't watched them play yet this year, but going off what i saw last year the back court still leaves something to be desired for me. Great thing about it is we will find out soon enough! River Falls will be a big game for them this Saturday, they have looked good so far this year but a W would be big for the conference and their resume come march.

Smitty, The three headed Roseville monster, JRs, Joh Farmer, Quinn Johnson, plus SO Henry Bensen are the interchangeable guard parts from Roseville HS. But if early season results are any indication, Coach Kalland struck gold with FY wunderkind 2G Matt Stritzel.  In two games he looks to be the real deal.  First game against Colorado College Stritzel's stat line read like this:  5-14 fga,   5-12 3fga,   4-6 Fts,  4 rebs, 19 pts, 1 steal.  In the second game against UW Platteville Stritzel led the team in scoring with 22 pts 7-12fga,  5-10 3fga,  3-4 fts, 2 rebs,  3 assists,  2 TOs, 1 steal.

It will be interesting to see how he and the rest of the Carlies fare this week with a home game against Hamline, and then on the road Saturday at WIAC preseason favorite  UW River Falls.

The Carl - UWRF matchup will be interesting indeed.  Gillespie was good, especially defensively, but there were times from the  games I saw for Carleton (3 vs BU ,and 1 other..SJU maybe?) that I felt like they looked better on offense without him clogging up the lane, so it doesn't shock me that they're still a very solid squad.

Nice win for the Auggies over BU last night, with Olmscheid leading the way.  I'm sure he was interested in redemption after having two clunkers vs Bethel last year.

My fear for BU was that they'd spend a number of games getting things figured out after having 4 years with so much of their offense running through Brycen Wojta and Trevor Hall.  Out of the frying pan, into the fire with SJU and UST for the next two!

Slightly surprised to see the UST - Cobber game only with a 10 point margin, but maybe it wasn't even really that close.

I was at the game and it really was as close as it seems, 9 point game! Cobbers played tough, as they have all season under Coach Grant. Only 5 point game at half and the Cobbs led for most of it! Very pleased.

Ryan Boll is a stud. That's my UST analysis for today.
