Watchmen, I don't like the Johnnies chances in a track meet! I think UST has more proven weapons than SJU. The Johnnies can't sustain a track meet pace fo 40 minutes.
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

Dang it OAS, I just noticed this.   I hope your wife - Ms. 1500 doesn't read the board.  Especially with V-D rapidly approaching, you just blew your chance to honor her with your 1,500th post!!!!

Quick, edit it!

You're more than welcome.  I'll take a Mac tee-shirt too.  XL works as well.  Leave it across Snelling at Kinkos for me in will-call.  ;)

Sumander & Watch - The couple of times when the Tommies have got into a "track meet", or allowed the other team to run, the results haven't been favorable for them. Carleton round 2, 44-75, & the opening game of the season against UW-Stout 90-91.

It would be interesting to see which team has enough gas tomorrow should they both try to run.  I think Coach Smith remembers the results from the first SJU-UST tilt of the season all too well.  I'll look forward to reading & hearing about the results.

While creative, I don't know how touched Ms. 1500 would be with a 1500th post dedicated to her.  Nice thought though...

Sumander: I think the Johnnies have enough bodies that they can throw 3 or 4 new guys in there every 4 or 5 minutes if that is the game they want to play. Veruink, Fogt, Kincade, and Johnson all have played significant minutes this year and could do a decent job of filling in. If you mix three of those guys in as fresh bodies and keep Ohme and Westman in at guards you could run almost two lines at the Tommies.  Drake pointed out the track meet doesn't favor UST.

Earlier in the year i listened to a UST game and Ike had two quick fouls in the first half and Coach Fritz made him sit for the rest of the half. His rule is to sit players with two fouls. If the Johnnies can get up and going maybe they can catch UST napping and get them in foul trouble.

I think that the Johnnies can get the ball up court while Ike and com. celebrate dunks and threes. They seemed a little slow getting back last game. Does anyone else think they are slow getting back. If Ike gets a couple quick fouls who can UST turn to on the bench?? I think subs will be a key factor in this game.

They'll turn to the ever imposing Mr. Worrell (That's for you Local) and they don't want to do that...

I don't think UST celebrates dunks and three pointers.  They've had enough of them this year to "act like they've been there."

OK they if they don't celebrate are they slow getting back?? That is my real question. If they are slow getting back and the Johnnies push it then it could be a better game than many people think.

With some people reopening the MVP race to include Fork, I wonder if we haven't also prematurely credited Schnettler with being the best shooter in the conference.

Is Jake Phillips playing Salim Stoudmire to Schnettler's JJ Redick this year, providing a hinterlands challenge to the overhyped star from the media mecca? MM can even serve as a de facto Dick Vitale :o

Schnettler's dropped to 42.9% from deep, while Phillips has raised his average to 49% on just 17 fewer attempts. They're the clear gunners of the conference, as the next closest MIAC player is 29 attempts behind. The averages are similar to Salim and JJ last year though - 50.4% to 40.3%. - yet everyone was still on the Dookie bandwagon then, just like they're on the Tommie one this season.

I couldn't point Phillips out in a crowd of two, but these are clearly the best two shooters in the conference this season. It'd be interesting them in a 3-point shootout to end the year. Maybe we could even get Eckhoff to pull a Craig Hodges and compete as an injured unaffiliate to defend his title   :D
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Question for some of you who  have been around MIAC for awhile...  Does Tyler Westman deserve all conference?  He has only played in 13 out of SJU's 19 games so i dont know how much that affects him but........ as of now he is or would be tied for 5th for most 3 pointers made this year.  He would be 4th in 3point %, he would be 1st in free throws at 19-19, and he is barely out of the total field goal percentage.  Oh ya and he would also be 10th in scoring.  I say would be because the miac page doesnt include him because he has only played in 13 games but already being in 5th place at made 3 pointers is pretty impressive since all the guys ahead of him have 6 or 7 games on him.  Just curious how games played will or would hurt his chances??

If SJU finishes third/fourth-they should get 2 players on the team. Name two guys who've had more of an impact on that team. The Cornhusker. One. Heinrichs will not be a repaet selection. Ohme is too inconsistent.

OAS-
I thought when you were married, V-Day just ceased to exist. That's what my father taught me.

Local-where are the predictions? In the pick'em, I'm trying to make up the four game deficit by picking SMU over GAC (0/100), STO over BET (50/50) and MAC over HAM (75/25).

Why doesn't Henrichs deserve it?? He is averaging 11 ppg and a team high 9 rpg. He is 25th in the league in scoreing and 2nd in rebounding. Plus he has already been selected twice to the team and was honorable mention as a freshman. He is the lone senior on the team that plays and he offers experience to a team that has nearly none in the MIAC. Only Schafer and Ohme had played before.  Paul Henrichs will be on the All-Conference team.

I'm not sure I reward a guy for regressing numbers.

Here's some numbers for ya on Heinrich's performances:
1/28(2 pt loss to CAR)- 0 pts, 2 rebs, 19 mins
1/25(15 pt loss to STO)- 9 pts, 3-12 shooting
1/18(1 pt loss to GAC)- 8 pts, 7 rebs

In 9 games in 2006: 2 games in which he was in double-figures, one against Auggie. Played well last Wednesday against BET, scoring 16 and rebounding 19, but the 0fer against CAR cancels that performance.

He is averaging 10+ points because he had some nice games early in high-scoring non-conference games vs SCSU and in Hawaii.

I'm sorry but Paul Heinrichs would be my Least Improved Player at this point in time. While I say that, he is still an important part to a playoff team. Being the only senior, they'll need his leadership.
