Why not just call them no-contests?  I don't understand why they are making a team forfeit.

Baseball reschedules games due to weather every season, seems odd they're not even trying to reschedule.

I could see a conference like the MIAC having a hard time finding time to make up games. In some weeks, you guys have 3 conference games already scheduled. It sounds like the WIAC, they are "no contests" and if they are made up, it's a non conference game. I would actually just assume a 2-0 won or loss for conference standings purposes only.

Technical issues early on threw me off and caused me to have one of my less quality interviews with Augsburg. I apologize in advance.

Believe it or not, the Division III basketball season is basically at it's midway point - at least in terms of games played for most teams. Now everyone's focus turns towards the end of February and positioning themselves for conference tournaments and hopefully NCAA glory.

If COVID will allow, of course.

On Thursday's edition of Hoopsville, we talk with a few programs who appear to be in very good position midway through January. Of course, each will likely tell us there is a long way to go.

Plus we debut the women's edition of the Top 25 Double-Take. Gordon Mann and Riley Zayas, of Tru to the Cru, join the show with their Dubious, Deep Dive, and Debatable teams throughout Division III.

Or the simulcast versions on our Facebook Live page (www.facebook.com/Hoopsville) and YouTube page (http://www.youtube.com/Hoopsville)

Guests include:
- Aaron Griess, Augsburg men's coach
- Doreen Carden, Albion women's coach
- Dan Pruessner, Eastern men's coach
- Michele Davis, Utica women's coach
- Women's Top 25 Double-Take: Gordon Mann, D3hoops.com, Riley Zayas, True to the Cru

Hoopsville is hosted by Dave McHugh from the the NABC Studio. It is presented by D3hoops.com and thanks to our partner WBCA. All guests are featured on the BlueFrame Technology Hoopsville Hotline.

Sounds like they heard you! MIAC moving to make COVID cancellations 'no contest' results instead of forfeits.

This should have been the policy from the start. The voices in favor of forfeits changed their tune once they realized it was a policy that was likely to affect results for almost all teams at some point.

In addition, every team is in the conference tournament this year.  I think 1-5 get byes, 6-11 play for the other three quarterfinal berths.  Not sure of that though.

You are correct, sir.

It's not a huge deal, but I kind of wish that they kept the re-seeding after the first round. That way the lowest remaining seed would travel to the overall #1 seed. Otherwise, I kind of like the expanded conference tournament.

Thanks for that.

St. John's will have to lose twice in their last three games to relinquish the top seed.  Even if they lose at Augsburg and they both have two losses (with both the Johnnies' losses coming to Augsburg), they would still be in first due to higher winning percentage.  Weird.

These last three games are no cakewalk for SJU. All of the final three games are from the top half of the league (at #5 St. Olaf, at #2 Augsburg, and #4 Gustavus).

I hope they win them all, but I know that nothing is a lock.

Here's what's on the line Wednesday night in MIAC play:

SJU clinches the regular season championship and #1 seed with a win AND an Augsburg loss
Gustavus clinches a top 5 seed with a win
Augsburg can finish no worse than a tie for #4 with a win
Hamline and Saint Mary's can fall no further than #9 with a win

*Carleton has already clinched a top 5 seed

Tough loss for the Johnnies last night. Just didn't have it in the first half and the frantic attempt at a comeback fell short. Olaf had ice in the veins at the free throw line in the final minutes.

Augsburg taking care of business in Winona last night sets up a de facto MIAC Regular Season Championship Game for the Johnnies. The Johnnies clinch with a win. Augsburg puts themselves in the driver's seat going into their final two games of the regular season (at Macalester and at Concordia).

Updated bracket after the weekend.

Johnnies clinch the regular season MIAC Championship.

Augsburg can clinch the #2 seed with a win tonight at Macalester.

Gustavus can clinch a top 4 seed tonight with a win at Hamline.

St. Olaf can clinch a top 5 seed tonight with a win against Bethel.
