SUMMIT!!!!!

WW-- I hardly call an ambiguous 1 one-line post "spouting off"....besides I'm still trying to figure out how the Cobbers struggled mightily before escaping form a dead-in-the-water Cobber team....were you at one of their scrimmages?

Watchman, Sumander-- the atmosphere was awesome in Sextion yesterday, but it was still a few 100 decibles below what it was ni years past. Maybe this win will begin the return of student support at SJU

A nice win for the Johnnies. Heinrichs looks to have played best game in 2006. Still isn''t all-conference in my mind. All-conference players (Westman) take shots in OT. We'll see, a couple of solid games from him and things could change in my mind.

HAM vs STO: 15 players played for Pipers- Loss
HAM vs MAC: 10 (Kelzer and Babcock) played two minutes- Win

Do you think Wohler has decided that playing a rotation is his best chance for victory?

Nice game from DeRock. 24 pts on 10-14 shooting. Solid performance from Charley Good as well 12 points in the starting role. Looks like MAC couldn't used just a bit more from Bosman and Lars.

MAC fans: Coming into this season, we're you hoping for more from Bosman? Maybe it was because he played with some great players in BVT and Splash before, but it just seems like he isn't playing to potential right now. Upon looking at his numbers 13 and 7 isn't bad, but I thought he was going to have a really good year.

MM - Apologies, my editor takes weekends off. Judging by your spelling ("form" "Sextion" "ni" and "decibles"), she's not the only one.

Or did you just finish the last few from the 30-pack of Hamms you started on the long, dreary drive home last night? In that case, I might forgive you :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

MM, I hope this does start bringing the students back. I thought the Tommie faithful added life to the party yesterday. From what I understand, in the days of the Rat Pack, SJU was a place visiting teams hated to play at.

It sure doesn't seem like that is the case these days.

LONG POST WARNING

Here are some stats for the Henrichs haters out there.

For those who are knocking Henrichs' bad games. Westman has had his bad games too.:
 - Westman scored 3 points in 27 minutes vs. AUG in a 75-59 Win
 - Westman scored 2 points in 32 minutes @ GAC in a 65-64 Loss

Westman has also missed 6 games this year. He is averaging 2.5 more points than Henrichs but Henrichs grabs 6.1 more boards per game. Now all of you are saying but they play different positions. I know so Westman should have more assists than Paul. Westman has dished out 17 dimes in 14 games which is an average of 1.2 per game that is in comparison to Henrichs who has 42 assists in 20 games or an average of 2.1 per game. Henrichs has him in two of the three areas.

Westman has led the team in scoring 5 times this season and Paul has led them 3 times. Paul has led the team in rebounding 11 times Westman has led them just once.

Henrichs is 2nd in the conference in rebounding. He also has 7 double doubles. Ike has 14 and big Fork of CAR has had 4.

If you want to compare Henrichs to another post player who is going to get selected lets compare him to Dan Forkrud who I think we all agree will get selected again this year to the All-MIAC first team.

--Forkrud is averaging 16.8 ppg, 7.3 rpg and 2.2 apg compared to Henrichs 11.4 ppg, 8.8 rpg and 2.1 apg.  Those numbers are comparable somewhat other than the margin of scoring.

When you look at the rebounding numbers , which is where Henrichs excels, the numbers don't lie.
    - Forkrud has 4 games with 10 or more rebounds ( 3-10 board games and 1- 15 board game)
    - Henrichs has 9 games with 10 or more rebounds ( 3- 10 board games, 1-12 board game, 3-13 board games, an 18 board game and a 19 board game)
    - Henrichs obviously has the edge in rebounding.

If you are going to elect Forkrud you need to pick Henrichs too. Without Henrichs where would the Johnnies be today. I doubt they would have beaten the Tommies without Henrichs yesterday.

I could make arrangements. I would like this to be done between you and me. I don't want my anonymity to be ruined.  ;)

It's halftime of a relatively boring Super Bowl, so I thought I would offer some comments from yesterday's games and for the week ahead.

I was out of town and didn't see any MIAC action, but it looks like Saint John's, Hamline, and Bethel all got important victories.  The loss for Macalester means that the Scots are hanging on by a thread and probably cannot lose more than one more game if they're to make the playoffs.

It's now a big week ahead for those 7 teams fighting for the final 4 playoff spots.  Here's a look at each of their schedules.

Gustavus - Games vs. Bethel, St. Olaf, and Augsburg.  I know that the Royals beat the Gusties the first time around and this game is at Bethel so that could be another "L" for GAC.  Either way I would expect them to go 3-0 or 2-1.

Saint John's – Games vs. Saint Mary's, Macalester, and Hamline.  The game at MAC could be a tough one, but not if the Johnnies play like they did on Saturday.  The game against Hamline is also an interesting matchup.  I think 2-1 is probably a realistic call.

Bethel – Games vs. Gustavus, St. Thomas, and Concordia.  A tough week for the Royals.  They could go 2-1 or 1-2.  That Gustavus game tomorrow night is enormous if they're to make the playoffs.

Saint Mary's - Games vs. St. John's, Hamline, and St. Thomas.  An 0-3 week is a distinct possibility as the first two are on the road where the Cardinals haven't fared well and despite being at home against the Tommies that will be a tough one to grind out.

Hamline – Games vs. Augsburg, Saint Mary's, and Saint John's.  The first two are at home and then on Saturday it's up to Collegeville for the Pipers.  They could go 2-1 or 1-2.  The game against SMU on Wednesday night will be crucial for both teams.

St. Olaf – It looks like the Oles have to win one of three this week to have a shot at the post-season.  The problem is they play St. Thomas, Gustavus, and Carleton.  Ouch!

Macalester – Only two games for the Scots, but they're against Carleton and St. John's.  Like the Oles, they need a split or it's probably a moot point with regards to the playoffs.

By the end of this week it looks like we will have a good idea of who has a legitimate shot at the playoffs and who does not.  We also should have a better idea of the seedings.  What a week of hoops on the horizon!  :o

SJU FAN!!

I have been reading these posts for this season, and I must say it is pretty interesting.

I just had to make my marks on Henrichs.
For all of you that are bashing him, I think that he is a GREAT player, and deseves to make the all conference team!!! He has been a great asset to the Johnnies since he started. He has deserved everything that he has received for conference!!!

Willy Wonka

I think Henrichs will make All Conference. He is the best player on that team. However, people on this board still have reason for disappointment.

Since absolutely bursting out of no where as a freshman to get something like 20 and 20 at Carleton in the playoffs, people have expected big things from him, especially as a senior. The SJU archives don't register his freshman and sophomore season stats, but last year he put up almost 15 and 10 a game. This year he's at 11 and 9.

I mean, where's the development and improvement? All he's shown is regression. That, along with his subpar stats, are what people are questioning. However, I think he'll still be awarded a spot this season.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

miacwatchmen

I don't mean to make excuses for him but Henrichs has a few things in his life to worry about other than basketball.  Besides in years past SJU has needed him to put up 20 and 12 a game just to win. Now he is putting up 11 and 9 and they are winning. i think he has a very different role on this team in comparison to years past.

Paul is going to be a teacher after college. He spends his time student teaching and some days doesn't even get to practice. From what i heard he was only at practice 3 times last week. He has children too. I am sure basketball is a very high priority but not as high as it once was.

Paul deserves to be on the team but i can see peoples arguments against it. His numbers are down but his leadership has not diminished once this season. The guys on the team look to him for leadership and I know for a fact that he was the most pumped up of anybody in the gym on Saturday afternoon. I can still see him after making a jumper running back and telling the students to stand and cheer. I think he sees the end of his great career and he will pick it up over these last few weeks.

SJU FAN!!

I Don't think that anybody should be making any excuses for Henrichs, and I don't think that you should be telling ppl what his priorities are in life. He is at St. Johns to play ball and go to school, and he is doing well at all of that. As for practice, I am sure that there is an understading with the coaches, and I beleive that his schooling is just as important as basketball!! This year there are other teammates that are able to step up and do their job in helping the team get the wins. Henrichs is a great team player, and it doesn't matter if he gets all the points or if somebody else does, as long as they are winning, I am sure that that is all that matters. His numbers may be down, but other members are stepping up, and that is what the team needs. This team is going to do some great things yet this year!!!

who r u honestly. If you are Paul Henrichs then i am sorry but if you aren't then what crawled up your *ss!! I am already i somewhat of a feud with SJU4life and i guess someone with two posts can come on here and yell at me if he wants. Really who r u!

Why do Johnnie backers always seem to get p*issed at me. I just state the facts. We are cheering for the same team!!
