Why in the world would a person move Ohme back to PG when it is clearly obvious that he is not a PG. He has poor court vision, a low basketball IQ, and is turnover prone. Not exactly the makings of a great PG.

im going to have to disagree with you on this...how can someone that has a low basketball IQ lead his team in breaking down the mpls north full court press in high school basketball on more than one occasion...how can someone with low basketball IQ lead an AAU team to great finishes in some great tournys and wins over some big time teams...how can someone with low basketball IQ help lead his team to a victory over st. cloud st. who killed a nationally ranked Mnkto St team this past weekend...there is a lot more to a basketball IQ than how many TO or points a player has...i havent seen him play yet this year but maybe the offense doesnt fit his style of PG play....u think sam cassell could lead the phx suns in the way they wanna run their offense...prolly not...does that mean he has low basketball IQ?

on a side note if you try to get a kangaroo to jump rope it is hard for them because their arms are kinda short...a t-rex runs into even bigger problems when it comes to jump roping with short arms

T. Westman put on a shooting clinic in Collegeville last night! He had a hand in his face all night long and was still able to hit the shots. "IF" he continues to shoot as well has he has the J's will be a tough out.  C Schafer had his usual workman like double double. He is not flashy but very effective. I think the starters ended up playing more minutes than the staff would have liked, but they got the W. I think a bit of a let down after Saturday's game was to be expected.

With regard to the "T" at the start of the second half. Smith is quoted in the SC Times this morning as saying it's the first time in 42 years that he can remember that happening. Last night was the 1,100 game Smith has coached. I think one mistake might be excusable.

Just for the record, You won't find a nicer gentleman than Jim Smith!

It's beginning to look like Bethel, Hamline, and St. Mary's will fight it out for the final two playoff spots.

Local, I thought SMU played well last night at SJU. Given the schedule they have left I can't see them finishing any better than 8-12. I think both BET and HAM will end up at least 9-11.

Coach Smith is obviously a great coach, come on.  There isn't even a debate about that.

Coming out late and getting a T was proof he is a great coach.  Ok, he made a mistake they came out late, but how did his team respond???  Did they lose their pose because of one little mistake.  Nope, they went on an 8-0 run and closed out the game.  There are always mistakes, it is the coach who can get his players to overcome them and win anyway.  Coach Smith is a great Coach, there's your proof if his record wasn't good enough for you.

SMU makes the playoffs if they can win at Hamline, and everyone knows Hamline really isn't that good.

Regarding the following:

Ohme....excellent BB player, agree with you totally C-Mob

Coach Smith....excellent coach and gentleman; JJK, he's forgotten more basketball than you'll ever know, so stick with the 'ol pocket pool as that's about the only "ball" you know.

Koz....I know he's probably a nice guy (don't know about the compassionate part, Willy, as I've know he's about as two-faced as you can get), but he's a god-awful coach. Yeah, I know, he was part of Coach Haskin's staff, BUT, about all he did was handle registration forms for the Haskins camp; in truth, he was no assistant coach even tho he was labeled as such. Probably also kept some nice stats for Haskins too. Yes, I'm sure the STO administration is plenty happy with him and I'll bet the MIAC coaches are thrilled he's around as it usually means another nice "W" when playing STO.   ;)  STO has made the commitment to win in football, I'm just surprised they haven't taken the same approach in hoops.

Flip the Red Bird - You sound quite confident that the Cardinals will beat Hamline tomorrow and ultimately make the playoffs.  ;)

For the sake of doing so, let's use your hypothesis and say that SMU did defeat the Pipers on Wednesday (Keeping in mind that the game is at Hamline; they've won 2 in a row; SMU has lost 3 in a row; and Kyle Foster (12ppg, 8rpg) didn't play for Hamline in the team's earlier season matchup with SMU)

That would put both teams at 8-9 in the MIAC.  If we assume that Bethel will find a way to make the playoffs, then it comes down to the final 3 games for both teams.

SMU - Plays St. Thomas, Carleton, and St. Olaf
Hamline - Plays St. John's, Bethel, and Concordia

Now, while I think that both teams have some tough games down the stretch, if we go by nothing more then overall records, Hamline clearly has as easier finish.

Just some food for thought.  All of this assumes that Hamline will lose on Wednesday, which I'm not about to agree with.  It should be an exciting matchup at Hutton Arena.

Corrections, Revisions & Mea Culpas

BG -  my bad on "placing" Lawrence College in the west region.  As I mentioned in my earlier post, I was highlighting the west region teams off the top of my head.  For some reason I was thinking Lawrence was in the West because they came to St. Peter & played the Gusties last year, the WIAC is in the west, etc.  But no matter how you cut it, oops  - wrong.

OAS - nice touch adding the blog.  I echo what 3m5... said earlier.  In spite of the flak I might give you on occasion, your weekly hoops emails were fun to read.   One small correction on Foster.  You'll still have another year of watching him play as he's only a junior.

Ohme is a hooper, he just might be in the wrong system.   And not unlike a number of other guys playing D3 sports, their sport isn't necessarily the be-all & end-all of why they're  in school.  I'm sure he's getting an excellent education at St. Johns.

I think in regards to Ohme that he is for the first time at SJU maybe not the first option on the offensive end. The past couple years the Johnnies have been down and Ohme could shoot and shoot because he needed to score to keep the Johnnies in the games. Now they have Westman, Leiser and the emergence of C. Schafer Ohme no longer needs to score 20 a game for them to win. Last night he forced a couple shots including a driving layup in a 2 on 4 rush in which he was trapped on the baseline and absolutely chrushed the kid for a charge.

As for him playing PG rather than Leiser. I really don't understand this move but i guess that is why Smith is the coach and not me  ;D   I think Smith wants Leiser at a spot that he can shoot more. Ohme hasn't been shooting well with the exception of the UST game in which he had one three and alot of driving layups. Leiser is a better shooter and Smith realizes that he needs Ohme on the court to win.

Local,

SMU has to beat Hamline on Wed., or they won't make the playoffs.  If they can, then at best Hamline will be 9-11 and tie SMU, and SMU would have beaten them twice.  I am not saying that it will be easy to beat Hamline, I'm just saying they have to or they have a big mountain to climb to get in.

do you also agree with me on the problems kangaroos and t-rex dinosaurs have jump roping?

Someone needs to point out that the all-conference team isn't all about the numbers its about the coaches who pick the players.

We will continue this all-conference debate in a few weeks, but at this point if SJU got two players, it would be Cornhusker and Heinrichs. Numbers aren't everything when coaches vote. I'm quite sure Heinrichs will get the nod for being a two-time selection, the leader of the third-best team in the league and an almost double-double type player.

Is anyone else wondering what it takes to get a "Mr." in front of their name in Loco's posts? Apparently the Gusties don't deserve it.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

In Miac Maniac fashion, why post one long post, when you can break it up into 3 and get a higher post count.

Last night I unfortunately couldn't watch the game on the webcast because I was watching a pair of 2-15 teams turn the ball over 60+ times and shoot 53 free throws combined.

Great game from Thrasher. 28 pts. Which is good to see, he has been struggling the past few weeks. 11-13 is insane. But then again, most of those were probably inside against a poor interior defensive team.

DeRock, two days after dropping it hot, scores 6 points on 0-7 shooting. Consistency. Please.

Charley Good another stellar performance. 13 pts.

Where did Ryan Montgomery come from? Before Saturday, had played in 5 games and scored a total of 17 points. Now 16 pts in two games.

Looks like my question on Wohler was answered? Expect 12-14 players to play and not 10 like against MAC.

GAC/SJU- you're in.  BET/HAM/SMU- you must remain on the runway. Heidi Klum is hot! I'm a sad, sad man for having watched Project Runaway once in my life.

miacwatchmen

Yes GAC and SJU will be in but what are the predictions on seeds. Will both teams win out until the final game of the season thus creating a winner take third situation or will one of the two trip up a bit and lose to a lesser opponent.

I'm not going to bother justifying my opinion with those who have a dissenting opinion. It is obvious that there are those who hold Jim Smith in a very high regard. I am just not one of those people. I think he is a great guy and haven't heard a negative thing about him, but I just don't think he is all that great of a coach.
