Not quite the complete story Local!  From the MIAC web site:

MIAC Men's Basketball Tie Breaking Procedure
1. Head to head competition
2. Results against all teams above those tied
3. Results against above teams beginning in rank order.
4. Descending order of losses.
5. Best road record.
6. Coin flip.

Thanks grammar police.

Tommies trailing SMU 48-43 with  11 minutes to go.

35 game winning streak for UST in Winona on the line.

oAs.

only was 18 in a frow at Winona (now 19) and is now 37 in a row in total    ;D
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

that rule is weak sauce

UST loses to AUG so they win the tie breaker over CAR for losing to a better HAM team

but........

it is what it is

#3 isn't weak, I think it makes sense. It doesn't apply to breaking UST/CAR tie though

That falls to #4, which IS weak sauce.... if anything it should be changed to be losses in ascending order. If you lose to the last place team and the team you're tied with lost to the 3rd place team, I think there is more shame in losing to the last place team and therefore that should drop you lower in breaking the tie.

In a fair world, I think CAR would be seeded ahead of SUT by virtue of losing to Hamline (likely a 6th place finisher) while UST lost to Auggie.

BUT the coaches drew up the rules, and that's the way it is.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

I think CAR has been playing better ball of late so they should be ranked higher than UST but like you said thats not the way it goes so we will have to take it as is.     For the numbers 3 and 4 seeds who would you rather play in the second round?? At UST or At CAR?? Tough choice for some people out there but i really don't think anyone wants to go visit UST and its fans in the playoffs this year.

MM, Educate me please. How exactly does tiebreaker 4 work? I checked the website and there is no definition.

Man, what a weekend! Loco gets out and gives us a 10-paragraph thesis on a game (was anyone else surprised it happened to include the Pipes?), people are asking MM for help and oAs has somehow tracked down a picture of me from out in Salem.

What's next? CMafia admitting defeat to the N-Mafia? fins not finding time for a brewskie? TDT giving dating advice? This is surely going to be a crazy finish...

If I remember right, the Knights faithful rolled in by the bus load at St Thomas in the playoffs last year and if not stole homecourt advantage, at least made the atmosphere a much more neutral environment

miacwatchmen

Yeah they might have but i don't see the Johnnie fans, who don't even come to home games and cheer (unless its UST), coming to the game in droves. GAC may be different but if the Johnnies end up the playing at UST in the second round the students may concede victory to the Tommies. Its to bad but the truth hurts.

I'll agree with you on that, but isn't the tiebreaker most relevant to the championship assuming it will be CAR and UST like most people believe?

miacwatchmen

N-Mafia: I don't really know what that means but a tie breaker between SJU and GAC will still be important because UST and CAR will have to play a game before they make it to the championship like " everyone believes".  One of them may lose. Car was lucky to escape the Johnnies at home this year and UST slaughtered the Johnnies at home so i would assume the Johnnies would like to go to CAR.   GAC on  the other had lost twice pretty handily to the Tommies while they lost only by 8 at CAR. I would think they would prefer to play the Knights too.

HAM: last fg- 3:06 left in game

Need to do better than that.

Been busy the last week, hope to get back in the swing of things this week. Which drive is shorter from O-Town? St. Pete or Collegeville? Either way, wouldn't mind driving to see the alma mater play their first playoff game in a long time. Magic number is 1.

MM- Find me the year that Hamline last made the playoffs.

miacwatchmen

I am pretty sure the Pipes can beat Bethel AND CON. If you guys don't beat Bethel its ok but if you lose to CON then it may not be ment to be........I see  the Pipers winning their last two and playing in St. Pete.

PI - Both drives are about the same in that they suck, but I think St. Pete is about 10 minutes closer. Not much difference.

Watchman - The second GAC/UST game wasn't a blowout. It ended up being about 15 I think, but I've gotta believe that was a confidence boost for the Gusties if they are forced to go back to UST in the second round. They dictated enough of the contest for me to hold out hope the upset could happen (though I'll likely be stuck working in the office that night >:( ).

Also, GAC got killed at the Carlies with Olson. They lost by single digits at home without him.

I think any team in its right mind would rather face the Carlies in the semis.
