Drake - I too made the trip to Hutton Arena last night.  Good crowd by the way.  Let me start by saying that Matt Fredrickson made some shots that were just out of this world.  His game has come full circle during his senior season.  Congratulations to him, and the Royals on proving many of the posters on this board wrong and making the playoffs as a fifth seed.  They're a team with momentum that I wouldn't want to play in the first round next week.

As for Hamline, you said it best.  They're a young team and they have to start off the game with more intensity and discipline.  The first handful of possessions last night they took what I would consider some questionable shots early in the shot clock and they gave up 3 or 4 offensive rebounds which Bethel converted into points.  Thus the early hole they dug and it was tough for them to find their way out.

Ryan Montgomery played well last night as did Joe Smock, who for the second time in the past three games had a double-double with points and rebounds.  He's only a sophomore, and already showing signs of a potential all-conference type season for next year if he can continue to be consistent.

Nonetheless, congratulations to the Pipers who make the playoffs for the first time in like 12 or 13 years.  I will end by saying this....If Hamline is able to put a 40-minute game together in the playoffs, they will be an awful tough out for anybody.

And another note....did I read the game report right...Macalester only scored 2 points in the first 11 minutes last night @ GAC and was down 25-2?  ???

Let the over analysis of Saturday's SJU/GAC match-up begin!  I'm have to try and make that one.  :o

Be sure to check the box score. It holds a little surprise :)

Willy, is this the second suprise?

23 Tom Conboy.......... *  4-13   0-1    0-0    2  0  2   1   8  1  5  0  1  31

Conboy doesn't go for double digit points for the first time in a MIAC
game this year!

I think C. Schafer should be in the team of the night. He put up another double double. Fork was pretty good but didn't put up a double double. Move Meadowcroft to F and Schafer to C.......just an opinion from me  ;)

Watchmen--

I agree, especially in 24 minutes.  I updated it.

I've totaled ballots I've received for Post Season Awards.

Check the results and get your ballot in if you haven't already.

Note, this website thing got so dang exciting that I exceeded my data transfer limit...so now I pay for it and you'll notice there are no longer ads on it.  I feel like Pat Coleman now.

You'd think now that the kid has his own website he's be able to do a link properly without my help... guess not. Damn Macalaster grads!

HEY!!!

What happened to my nominations?

Max's Mom, Willy Wonka and Mike Fahey aren't listed when I clearly remember nominating all of them for all First year team.

ho-hum...UST adds its league-best 21st championship in bland style last night.  Some sloppy play but enough to get the "W"... WW's favorite player had a solid night and clinched the league's top 3-pt % title (I think he made more 3s this year than WW did in his career :) ). Ike wrapped up the socring & rebounding titles, Schnettler eclipsed Splash for most 3s in a full season but fell short of the MIAC record. With a season somewhere between last year & this, Schnett will break the MIAC career 3s record-- in 3 yrs, vs Sparby's 4. Shimek had a great game-- 10 boards, 4 steals.

The funny thing is that I was actually impressed with Con. They played with hustle and were aggressive even when it got lopsided. I kept trying to imagine them with that effort plus a healthy Eck, Linz & Dixon. They woulda been a top 3 team. I expect them to be a top 4 team next year, and if Eckhoff comes back, they will challenge for the top spot.

I will be the first (of many?) to offer some thoughts on Saturday's GAC-SJU game.

J's on a six game win streak. Last loss was to Carleton 67-65 OT. Gusties on a 5 game win streak last loss was to CAR 65-59.

First time around the Gusties make 10 more FT than the J's shoot (16-6)! SJU out rebounds GAC 38-24. Overall shooting %'s are roughly equal.

J's need a healthy Paul Henrichs! Westman has to shoot better than 1-8;0-4 from deep. Lieser was 0-4 from deep as well.

Playing at Sexton, with the bandwagon rolling behind them, I think the J's will win in a tight one!

Thanks oAs, that makes me feel all nice and warm inside  :)

Thanks for the update on the awards race too. I like to see where my picks rank.

SUMMIT!!!!!

While it might be early for this, looking ahead to 2006-07...I see it like this:

CAR-- finally ends the drought
SJU-- Smith goes out on a good note
UST-- starts slow, wins league playoffs
CON- if healthy, look out...if Eck returns, they move up a notch or 2
HAM- needs some inside strength...they have 20 guards, no center
SMU- Trewick keeps the momentum going, team adds experienc
BU- Meadowcroft for MVP? now, they need some shooters
GAC - Wittwer will have to carry the team.. little help coming from the JV
AUG- will be interesting to see how Greiss fares in recruiting wars
Olaf-- the Bs could be a sleeper...or fall deeper
Mac- Conboy needs some support..rest of team too inconsistent
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Where will I be on Tuesday night at 7pm?

St. Peter or Collegeville. Again, it doesn't matter to me, although I guess Sexton Arena may be the easier road venue. Or will it?
