Quote from: Drake Palmer on February 18, 2006, 02:44:32 PMBy the way, Greg, I know you're a stickler for accuracy, but I think most MIAC posters are referring to the "greater Chicago metro area" when they/we refer to getting a kid out of "Chicago."   As far as most of us are concerned, Barrington, Joliet, Evanston, McHenry etc. are neighborhoods in Chicago proper.  ;)

I know, and some of that is anal-retentiveness on my part, but it really does stress that there is a difference between the demographics of the city and the suburbs in terms of academics, economic class, family structure, etc. Recruiting the city really is different than recruiting in the 'burbs.

I live in the city, adjacent to the North Park campus. My friends out in the 'burbs crack me up, because they tend to tell people from outside the region that they live in "Chicago", even though they actually live in Schaumburg, Palos Heights, Glen Ellyn, etc. They refer to me as living "downtown" -- "downtown" is their word for the city proper. Thing is, I live six miles north and four miles west of downtown. It takes me the better part of an hour to get to the Loop on the el. It's a very big city.

Watchmen--
How do you go from All First Year to done?  Did he go the academic route?

Wow.  I missed that Hollerich line.  However, Sowden is a proven go to guy.  To foul out in 17 mins is ridiculous.

Lastly, a treat for all you guys.

oAs.

I guess Kaus must have seen something that made him not want to return. He had a pretty good future but I guess he did decide to go with the academics.

He was pretty loud when Johnnies played there before Christmas and then Casey Jones slammed home an alley-oop dunk with under a minute to go capping a near monkeystomp for the J's. If i remember him right he was all dressed up as something pretty crazy too.

CAR wins 17 straight in MIAC...thats impressive.....can they get to 20??

Slow day on the board. oAs, can we post our predictions for the playoffs on the board or do we need to post on the pick'em thread still! :D

Apparently Kaus' promised starting spot, which was rescinded halfway through last season, combined with Lieser's transferring in and a terrible record last season were enough to cause him to rethink his priorities.

Imagine that.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

WW- I was very impressed with Doble's play yesterday...he was the main reason GAC was able to get back into the game and a key part of how they hung it it. It ill be interesing & fun to see him & Meadowcroft go at it Tuesday.

Nice crowd at SJU yesterday, but the place was still on the quiet side, at least compared to days gone by.

Easily the poorest officiated game I've seen this year... Panning was the best of the lot, and we all know how bad he is. Extremely inconsistent, they allowed the game to get brutal, but "made up" for it with lame calls. The double foul on Sowden & C Shafer was a joke, especially in light of the non-calls when TeBrake and Westman both were knockked to the floor with clothesline shots on separate plays earlier. I'm not sure, tbut I think Sowden & Shafer were whistled for stepping on each other's shadows, yet earlier Wittwer & a Johnnie (can't remember who) were shoving each other around enough that Hanson ot more agitated than I've ever seen him.

Sumander-- it was nice to meet you as well. I still say cancel that biz trip this week  :D

Watchman- good to meet you, as well.

TDT and MW,

you're officially crazy to think the Johnnies will play for the MIAC title. St. Thomas is possibly the best team in the league, and Carleton is the hottest team in the league. I suppose stranger things have happened, and it is the playoffs, so anything is possible. But Carleton will be playing at Schoenecker for the MIAC title. I'm still holding out faith that the MIAC will receive an at-large bid for whoever loses that game.

Let me tell you about another group of individuals called crazy for believing in "their team."

They called themselves the Continental Congress and they believed their team of farmers with pitchforks and muskets could beat the strongest Army in the world... you know what... they were right!

They called this guy crazy when he said the world wasn't flat  ... who's crazy now?

Or how about this crazy bunch of kids who believed they could knock of a Soviet team that had been playing together since before they could skate?

Yes, stranger things have happened and they will. Tommie's aren't meant to succeed on the court or off it, the balance in the world will be restored.

TH4L- You don't think SJU can beat CAR AGAIN....they beat them once and lost by 2 in OT at CAR. The second game they should have won. I think SJU can beat CAR and that would mean.....oh no SJU v. UST for the title.
