I think the Johnnie bandwagon ran out of gas.   Anyone think Smith may call it quits after this season??

No 6er last night Willy, unless you count the six choruses of the reworded "Johnnie Fight Song" I sang driving home. I spent the morning in a string of utterly useless, pointless lame meetings.

Yes, GAC was "good" not "great" last night. While they certainly shot the lights out, they had major difficulties holding onto the ball. Bethel's pathetic FG% was less of a byproduct of typical "in your face" aggressive GAC defense as it was of BU kids not being able to hit shots when wide open. If you had gotten off your duff and made the trip, you'd have seen a sloppy GAC team beat up on an utterly uninspired BU team. Bethel had many many open, good shots that airballed, clanked off the rim, and a few that were all net-- sadly, those all-net ones didn't go thru the hoops first. A lot of their shooting reminded me of your shooting day :) Still, a win is a win, and that's what counts.

If GAC handles the ball and plays defense against Carleton like they did last night, it will not be pretty.

Can anyone elaborate on Hollerich's "T" last night?  Did Bakko call the "T"?

Hollerich & Madson were in a very physical scuffle, with Madson trying to tear the ball out of Hollerich's arms (or maybe his arms off of him). Madson was called for the foul, but Hollerich must have said something, because there was nothing I or those around me could see that warranted a T. Not sure who assessed the "T"....but AS was his usual grandstanding, hyper self.

OAS,

just made my reservation for the championship cookout, but I'll only be in attendance if it's at UST. If Carleton and UST both win tomorrow, I have to come up and cover it for the newspaper. Ironically, as much as I bragged about covering Carleton for the playoffs, I won't be at West Gym tomorrow night. Boys hockey starts sections tomorrow here as well, so I have to go to that.

WW,

I expected text messages from you updating tomorrow night's game while I sit in the ice arena.

I think Drake is a big X-factor for this one. A good game from him sets the Knights up well.

A big part of Carleton's success this year has been their ability to play together.  T-Bird isn't putting up the big scoring numbers he did as a first-year, but if you ever watch a game you'd see him doing all the intangables...hustle plays, tipping rebounds to teammates, solid defense (man up and help side).  He knows he doesn't have to be the top scorer and is fine with his role

TH4L-
have fun at the tin shed you guys call a hockey arena. Make sure to check OAS' blog next week for some memories from a few years ago. A few of you might remember.

Drake-
Hope to meet you on Saturday. To answer to your comment on Good and Foster, the Pipers really went to Good early and he had some mild success, but Schaefer really altered his shots. He had one go off the top of the backboard and go in. Now that he is married and has that off his mind, he's been playing stellar minutes. On defense, look for more fronts to help him stay out of foul trouble. Perrel should shape him up for Shimek/Rosefelt.

Foster catches the ball a lot at the free throw line, so he isn't going to shoot much, but he made some very nice passes to cutters DeRock and Babcock (Weiner once on a pretty reverse lay-up). He got a huge basket in the final minutes. Will need 10-12 for Pipers to beat UST. As somebody said tonight, he may be the hatest player in the league but he has the physical attributes to be a good player. Now he just needs to develop the mental aspect.

Don't get me wrong though, the Bird can still score.  When others have struggled he's stepped up and hit the big shots, or in the case of the first Bethel match...all the shots (32 points) including the game winner.

Hamline is hosting an audio webcast for tomorrow's game.

Question for those Pool C nuts: Let's say Hamline and Gustavus win tomorrow. Any chance UST or Carleton get in? I would assume if either loses in the semis, their season is over.

Ha! I love the Jim Smith quotes. I feel like those are all things I would say...except the Macarena one - that's too creative for me.

More lates, gotta call the Speaker of the House now.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.
