But optimism abounds...

The bandwagon should start to fill a little earlier next year. Make your plans to hop on now.

Who will be in attendance on Thursday at UST?

I'll be up in the cities for wrestling. Should be done with that at like 7-7:30, so then i'll fly over to UST. The Mill afterwards?

Congrats to UST and Carleton. Represent the conference well.

Just remember where Brad Panning is from: Norwood Young America. Home of the Stiftungsfest. His older brother and I were classmates in high school.

Sorry, Johnnie Red, but that doesn't help....

Hopefully the older brother is a whole bunch better at what he does than this one!

So, you're heading down to the Quad Cities on Thursday? Hope the Knights knock off the Blue Devils. (don't they have a couple of kids from Burnsville playing for them?)

...and if the Tommies bring their "A" game and whip up on those boys from nippleville....I mean naperville, the MIAC will be looking good!!   ;)

Adam Chandler, Stouts starting PG, is a 04 Burnsville grad-as is Eric Heisler, their 3rd guy off the bench. They also have a pair of freshmen listed on the roster from Burnsville, neither of which sees significant minutes.

Well, now that they've both arrived, the Tommies & Knights will need to show why they belong on the national stage.  The Tommies' game against North Central College out of the prestigious CCIW has me very concerned.  NC has good size, & apparently excellent quickness at the forward positions.  North Central won the inaugural CCIW post season tourney this weekend & in the championship game, knocked off the near unanimous D3 Hoops pre-season # 1, Illinois Wesleyan 51-49.

NC is led by a pair of junior forwards 6-6 225 lbs Anthony Simmons & 6-5 200 lbs Dan Walton.  Simmons averages 18.7 ppg/6.6 boards & Walton averages 16.8 ppg/7.1 boards.  NC has got another banger in jr. center Adam Krumtinger who checks in at 6-7 220 lbs & averages 6.2 boards/game.  They've got a couple of smaller guards at 5-11 & 6 feet who apparently are more than adequate.

From a quick glance at the NC team stats it appears they mirror UST in overall size & the number of players that typically get minutes in a game – 7.5 players.  I try to keep up with the CCIW board, & most veteran CCIW posters i.e. Greg Sager have nothing but praise & respect for 2nd year coach Todd Raridon.  He's revived the basketball program in two short years & came to North Central after a number of successful years at Nebraska Wesleyan.

The Carleton game with UW-Stout has me concerned as well, but not nearly as much as the NC/ UST game.  For me, I think an old adage applies – "the (Blue) devil you know, is better than the devil you don't." I've at least seen the Stout Bluedevils play this year, I only know about North Central by reputation.

If Carleton can find the rhythm they had during the first half of the GAC playoff game & earlier this season, they should be ok.  Not to say the game with Stout is going to be easy.  Stout has got a pair of 7 foot twins, a 6-3 rebounding beast, a 6-1 flyer, a small but lightening quick PG (MN product Adam Chandler) who finds his 6-0 backcourt mate for the trey, & or successfully feeds the biggs inside.  Stout also subs a fair amount & will throw a full court press at their opponents.

FBaller – yup, Chandler's from Burnsville as is fellow soph 6-6 Eric Heisler.  They've got a number of key players on their roster from MN - Chaisson, Buck, Clopton, Theiss etc.

Stout faltered a bit late in the season, & lost out on the regular season WIAC title & conference tourney championship to UW-Whitewater.

Speaking of Whitewater, they enjoyed a nice run this year as they reached the D3 championship game in football, & now have made post season play in hoops.

Kneez- look like you beat me to the punch.  You're right about Chandler etc.
Good luck!

"If anything here offends, I beg your pardon. I come in peace, I depart in gratitude." ;)

Whitewater has also won the women's volleyball championship and I believe the baseball championship this year.

Forkrud and Kootsikas should have fun going against a couple rivals they have faced off with many times in high school conference games and summer league games...Chandler is fun to watch

SUMMIT!!!!!

Not to put the cart TOO far in front of the horses, but should UST win its first two, they along with Whitewater are the two most likely to hose the Sweet 16. NCA brass was very very satisfied in the past when UST hosted (two men's Sweet 16s and 2 pr 3 women's as well as a Final Four)...proximity to airport helps considerably, as would seeing either Carleton or Stout advance that far (wouldn't it be SWEET if UST & CAR squared off again in the Elite Eight??? That's the stuff dreams are made of)

That being said, they've got to get past North Central (as DP points out NC looks to be a very stiff opponent) and then Larry U, the last unbeaten college team-- men's or women's at any level-- in the country. Those are two mega-tough games.

Carleton drew Stout as some wise man predicted, although I was kind of surprised of the location. But as GS pointed out, the site makes sense, and Augs' big barn of an arena is a nice venue to use for 3 games.

Doesn't Stout have a 3rd 7 footer? From the few UST players I've talked to about the Stout-Car game, they call it a toss-up, and having played both teams, they ought to know best.

My sources say Alpers is one of three leading finalsits for the AD job....perhaps he stepped down from hoops anticipating getting the post?

In addition, I think Bob wants to concentrate on his golf program, which on the brink of becoming one of the top 3 or 4 in the nation, eclipsing UWEC & GAC as top dog in the Upper Midwest.

Another rumor I've heard is that a certain tee-shirted former SJU player may be rejoining the coaching staff. That could make him heir appraent. (lotta gossip out of Collegeville....must not be footbal season yet  :) )
