I agree with you 100% Drake. Doble played very well down the stretch and Brink could have a break out year but will once again have to fight for minutes.

hey small college bb fans,   d2 national championship game saturday noon on cbs.   winona state (nsic) is in the final against virginia union.   wsu has a couple of nice players including lewiston minnesota grad dave zellman.   this kid can play.   most of the rest of the lineup is made up of  players from wisconsin.   i also think that a kid from hayfield (dave johnson; quite a gunner) is there, but he must be a red shirt as his name does not appear on the stat page.  go warriors!

Tough day for the undefeated teams in the Class A semifinals. both Maranatha Christ. and Osakis get beat.

I watched MCA for a while and they didn't seem to be playing very well for an undefeated team. Rushford owened them for most of that second half or at least the part that I saw.

My brackets are officially shot. I shouldn't have had so much faith in Dick Vitale and Digger Phelps.  BC was a bad pick for the final for.  ;D

It was a good day for hoops in the bluff country of southeastern MN.   In high school ball, Rushford Peterson beats a tough Ellsworth team & Curt Schilling 55-52 for the Class A BB championship.

On the college side of the aisle, Winona State behind the 26 points of David Zellman of nearby Lewiston, MN beat VA Union 73-61 in the NCAA DII nat'l championship.  After watching the game, it's hard to believe that St. Mary's played Winona tough in a non conference game back in November -- WSU looked very tough today. Congrats Winona St!

Ellsworth is coached by a kid from up my way, Marcus Okeson. I thought he did an outstanding job for a first year (I believe) coach. They beat R-T-R once during the year and in the section finals!

I think when you have some talented players, like he did, the tendency may be to over coach! He did a nice job of staying out of their way and coaching whne he needed to.

I watched a little of the Winona St game. They looked awfully tough. I think Northern taking them to OT in the section finals was their toughest game.

SUMMIT!!!!!

Wth Winona State's win, a school from MN has finally won n NCAA men's hoops title (Ham won a couple of NAIA titles long ago, and the Concordia and St Thomas women have won NCA ttles).

As little respect as I have for D-II, I tip my hat to WSU for breaknig that barrier...may a MIAC rep add the D-III crown next year!

That Ellsworth team beat R-T-R when they trailed 17 with 5 minutes left. Sounds like a Gonzaga collaspe.

Final Four teams: UNC, Duke, Florida and Gonzaga. I'm done, but I beat Maniac.

I couldn't believe the Zags collapse either, but with UCLA's win over Memphis tonight, I guess the Bruins win the night before wasn't a fluke.

I still don't know how they did it, mutter, sputter, %$!

Memphis losing finished my brackets!! The youngsters finally played like youngsters!

Good news is Hopkins is beating Cooper!

I'm back, at least on an intermittent basis.  Speaking of back, where's Funballer been?

Drake....I'm still around; been traveling alot with business and watching HS hoops.....and have been reading the board now and then.

It's been a great basketball run this year hasn't it? Looking forward to watching the two NCAA games today to round out the Final Four.

Regarding Ryan Shimek.....maybe it's already been addressed, but he is a cousin to the Shimek boys at UST. Supposedly he had a very nice senior year at Prior Lake, along with Jon Cassens who I'm told is going to Augsburg.

Heard that Hartman (Eagan) is heading to GAC...

Speaking of GAC, wonder what Kaus will do? I've got to believe he and his parents are quite "PO'd" with his lack of playing time.

HU is scouring the streets for a post player(s)....they've got plenty of guards; Wohler likes Gusass from Richfield...big 6-9 kid who's still growing; not a great offensive player, but he's big!

Wonder how new BU coach Westlund is doing with his recruiting....heard they were trying to get a kid from Braham (Luebeck?); if they do indeed get Moberg....that's going to make them pretty tough...of course, they then have to figure out/learn how to actually USE post players!

Did it bother any of you guys that, among the players in the Winona State rotation, only Zellman and a couple of reserves are Minnesotans? As miacsuperfan pointed out, most of the guys who actually see the floor for the Warriors are from Wisconsin, in addition to tourney M.O.P. John Smith from the northwest suburbs of Chicago.

I'm not looking to stir anything up. I'm just curious. For some people, a title is a title, and never mind where the coach got the players. For others, especially those who follow local high schools, there's some pride involved in noting where the players hail from.

I noted that with some interest because it goes counter to the perennial (whine?) argument that the kids who don't go D-I in Wisconsin end up in the WIAC.
