I believe use of the word "retarded" is hate speech. Any student of a liberal arts college full of self-righteous activists knows this. Hasn't the Orwellian movement to DoubleSpeak reached Moorhead/The Pacific Northwest yet? You can't say "retarded," "gay," "black," or "Indian" anymore. Please refrain from degrading the board with such hateful speech in future posts. And please, let's not use heights to quantify players. It's not fair to less vertically inclined individuals. Do you mean to imply that a 6-10 player is more apt to be a post than a 5-5 one? Who's to say? That's heightism, and I don't have to take it. As a 6-7 post, I was forced to suffer through years of coaches blindly assuming I couldn't play guard just because I was tall. Let's put an end to ignorance and intolerance once and for all.

This may be retarded, but can somebody explain to me the use of the karma points? How do I get them and lose them. Also, how do I take them away and give them? What do I say to earn them and is there an incentive to earn them?

Jdowney- If you haev posted 200 or more times you have the ability to give and take away karma. Until then you have no power over the karma. Here is what the site FAQ says about karma:

Only more veteran posters are allowed to affect a poster's karma, and this is done via links titled "applaud" or "smite" under a poster's name. The restriction is in order to limit the ability of so-called one-star bandits to affect a poster's karma without being registered for the board or a true member of the community.

You cannot applaud or smite yourself, and you can only applaud or smite each individual poster every few hours. Also, if you continually praise or smite an individual poster, eventually you'll run out of karma to give that individual.

Applauding a poster raises their karma by one; smiting lowers it by one.

So basically if you make good insightful comments about a topic you can maybe get karma or another way is if you have enough friends on the board who feel like boosting your moral.

baller08 - Augsburg used to run a summer league of some sort that MIAC teams played in. I'm not sure if that's still an option though. No idea if anything else exists...I was generally hurt every summer so it didn't effect me much
