Aaron Kahl??  I was thinking it might be Jeff Boschee, Mike's younger brother.

What's the reaction among the GAC faithful Willy - excitement or disappointment?

Wonka? Bitter? Hasn't Uncle Sid taught we Minnesotans anything about being a sports writer?

There's a saying about "those who can't do." :)

Oh? And what's said about those who want to but can't find employment, like you?

Drake - He knows his stuff. Bosch used to gush about him and Kahl's work with the women's program speaks for itself. He'll be a very good fit.

Though, depending on who they hire to replace him for the women, it could end up hurting that program BADLY, hence my nod to chemistry.

O.k. Willy, we've waited long enough and there's been no official announcement down in St. Peter.  Who is the new assistant at GAC?  Inquiring minds want to know.

In recruiting news, I've heard that Augsburg is assembling quite a first recruiting class.  The latest word is that they may be getting a Division II guard transfer from the Northern Sun Conference.

gacbacker

localcoach- Take some time to go back and read past messages you might have missed...you might find that Willy dropped the news last week.   :D

Does Loco remind anyone else of Chad Ford, of espn.com fame? Put me in Bill Simmons' camp in this comparison.

Well, alright then.  There usually comes a time in the year when message boards hit a down cycle, the board just dries up, & let's face it - the board sucks.   No posts since last Thursday the 15th??  My fellow posters, I believe we have hit our annual late spring/early summer swoon.

There's no recruiting news, D-1 transfers, games to be played, coaches hired, fired or retired, conference titles to be won, lost, wrestled away, stolen, choked, nada, zip, zero, zilch.  Psst, by the way, Local -- word on the street is that Aaron Kahl was hired as the new assistant mens' basketball coach at Gustavus!  ;D

So ever the altruistic one,  I humbly offer up the following topic in the interest of sparking some potential convo & discussion:  ;) :D

The 2006 Doug Espenson & Mike Keating Comparison/Debate

The following figures show their stats after the conclusion of their respective junior years:

|-----------------OVERALL STATISTICS------------------|

SUMMARY              GP-GS Min/G   FG%   3PT%   FT%    R/G  A/G   STL BLK  PTS/G

Doug Espenson..... 28-0   24.7   .506   .413    .714    4.1   2.1    25   22   11.8

Mike Keating.......   29-29   27.9   .462   .440    .800     4.0   2.6   26   11  10.0

----------------CONFERENCE STATISTICS-----------------------------------------------|---

Summary                GP-GS    Min/G    FG%    3PT%     FT%    R/G    A/G   STL   BLK    PTS/G

Doug Espenson      20-0        25.1     .528    .429      .739      4.1     2.0    14       4     12.1

Mike Keating          20-20      26.4    .487      .500      .750     4.0     2.4    22       5       9.8[/size]

At the risk of raising the ire of a few GAC boosters, I think the gap is a lot narrower than one might have expected.

Nice job, Drake!

This out to get Willy's hands out of the golf bag and back to the keyboard!!  :D

Also, I think Keating had surgery (hip) this spring....hope he's healing well and can play without the pain he's endured last year. Like Espo, he's a warrior!

Drake - I'll get to this before the end of the week - I don't have to what I want with it right now other than to say I disagree (big surprise, huh?).

In the meantime, I'll leave with this little recruiting tidbit. The Gusties have secured Derek Eddie of Owatonna High School. Never saw the shooting guard play, but he's apparently another "blue chip" player in an impressive recruiting class.

Gustie Golf Open Thursday. Hopefully I can stay under 100 after all the free rounds I've gotten in so far this summer :)

Bait the trap, set the stage, etc.  Hopefully your response will draw Funbb, Local, OAS, Mose & others from their summer hiatus to exchange a few pleasantries & barbs over the board.   ;D

Willie......"Derek Eddie" a blue chip? Are you referring to some type of poker tournament?

I don't know that he was on any of the coaches radar screens, except for maybe Koz....wait, no matter, he wouldn't know of or about him and wouldn't know what to do if he did get him. (there, I got my "Koz bashing fix in...haven't done that in awhile!!)

Derek Eddie? What kind of player is he? Position? Is he another shooting guard like Olson from Owatonna?

Blue chip??!!! Geezzzz, come on, Willie. Maybe you have been golfing in the sun too much lately!!

In keeping with the off season mode - I stumbled across these tidbits over the noon hour while strolling through the veritable treasure chest that's known as D3Hoops/D3Football.  Thanks PC!

Excerpts from interviews with former baseball managers Lee Elia of the Cubs, Earl Weaver of the Orioles, & Bobby Knight when he was with Indiana.

Warning:  Wear headphones or play when there's no one within earshot.

Enjoy!

I've been out of town a lot lately.  I have nothing in terms of new and exciting MIAC information to offer.  Sorry Drake  ;)

I do know that a few of the teams are playing in the Minneapolis Summer League again downtown.  I think St. Thomas, Augsburg, and Macalester are in it.  Not sure on dates and time though.
