Sort of a random question there B34.   I don't think you've  posted since last basketball season & you ask about Keith Eckhoff & the Vikes in your first two post back?   :)

Sumander or someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but the last we heard on the board is that the Big E decided to forego a medical red-shirt to enter the world of work.  Apparently he's teaching EL ed. in Detroit Lakes this school year.  The Cobbs will certainly miss him.

Drake, you are spot on! Eckhoff is teaching 3rd grade in DL and was hired as an assistant in the Boys BB program

To bad he can't play for the boys bball team this year, if he did they could have their first decent season since Mike Hutchinson (Johnnie Alum) played there!! ;D

Congrats to occasional poster Greg Holker on his soccer team's great start this season. His Auggie team hasn't given up a goal in the team's first seven games I believe.

I remember in the not-so-distant past that the Auggies were in the cellar of the conference.

WAH003,

Sometime ago I heard that Luke Witt, SJU 2002, was (is still ???) playing in Europe.  But that is old news, so I am not sure it is still correct.

KA - Maybe I need to take an all-expense paid trip to Europe to track Luke down and do a story? Somehow I don't think that would fly with the boss :P

On a more serious note, who does everyone think has the best program in the MIAC? College Bound Student Athletes has released rankings for all basketball programs, D1-D3, men and women. Only three MIAC schools made the list: Gustavus men at 21 and UST at 28. The Bennies are 8th as the lone women's rep.

I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Good find for a news parched board Willy!  After doing a quick scan over the list it was interesting to note how there's almost a direct connection between the so-called "powerhouse" schools and the popularity of the message boards on the D3Hoops site.  Michigan's MIAA, the NCAC from Ohio, CCIW – Illinois, the WIAC, & of course the MIAC.  The list you posted should provide some interesting reading until more basketball news starts circulating around the board.

By the way, I got a wry, little chuckle out of the description of how the Gusties have arrived at their success – "Inheriting a program that had been a middle-of-the-pack non-contender for most of its history, Hanson has methodically turned the program into one of the nation's elite D3 programs."  No offense intended, but "methodical" could perhaps describe his on court demeanor as well no?  ;)

Obviously over the last 8 -10 years, Gustavus's success has been the benchmark which other MIAC schools must use as a measurement.  One of my favorite moments on the board last season was the build up & post game discussion after the Tommies came down to St. Pete & administered a little "brotherly love" to their Lutheran cousins! To steal a page out of Mose's posting repertoire - here's hoping to see more, great rivalry games this season & years to come!  :)

I agree - interesting find!  But do use it with caution: I've so far only read my alma mater (IWU), and without even checking on the stats, I noted two errors.  They list IWU as winning the conference last year (alas, they finished in a 3-way tie for second), and that the CCIW has no conference tourney (this past year was the inaugural).

Gusties will be very lucky if they can finish 13-7 again next year....probably more like 11-9, maybe 12-8.

"Methodical?".....LOL, yeah, that's Hanson all right!

;)

As of last year Luke Witt was playing for the SBL in Australia, don't know what he did this year ???

Random question to you knight posters out there?  One Armed maybe you have some good stuff??  Yours truly, Pat Russell himself, is starting next week in my company.  I might even be training him in... ;) I was just wondering if any of you might have some good info/dirt that I could give him a hard time about??  All in fun of course ;D

My 2 cents worth on the CBSA rankings-- whoever wrote that piece on GAC must not have seen the many championship banners that preceded the Hanson Era....and same goes for the write up on UST, where CBSA made it sound (at least to me) that the Tommies had done nothing pre-Fritz. Of course, if a history loaded with championships was a criterion, then Hamline should be turning away blue-chip recruits.

Like any rankings along this lines (which includes US Views & World Distort, Princeton Review, and preseason polls), they don't really tell you much, other than that they are a regurgitation of some previous ranking or previous season's finish. They amount to a big yawn.

Amen!     ;)

If you'd taken the time to read, it says the ranking are based off the last six years. GAC has made the national tourney five of those six year. UST has...twice? Hamline needs a winning season and a steady staff before they'll see any rankings...unless Loco creates his own ranking system  ::)

Maybe if YOU had taken time to read it ;), you'd have read this line: " Inheriting a program that had been a middle-of-the-pack non-contender for most of its history, Hanson has methodically turned the program into one of the nation's elite D3 programs."

Uhm....methinks that says GAC before Hanson took over as coach was a middle of the pack non-contender (their words, not mine). Methinks there are many championship banners hanging in Gus Young that predate Hanson's playing days, much less his coaching days. I believe there is at least one championship in every decade the MIAC has been in existence.

The logical conclusion would be that either the statement made is inaccurate or those banners need to be taken down. :)  I feel pretty certain the banners are legitimate and should remain, which leaves only one conclusion:

This ranking "service" has no clue about the historical success of GAC, one of the 3 all-time winningest programs in MIAC history. This does not stop them from making grossly inaccurate statements alleging to depict the history of GAC as mediocre before Hanson was coaching. Ditto for its comments about UST. These inaccuracies lead me to assume there are many others like it in the "formula" used by this service, and that leaves their entire ranking suspect.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

last night i took a big chance with my rollerskates getting repairs in the shop and i decided to drive my car...that was a big mistake...as i was driving down the road some 16 year old kid stood up out of the window of an on coming car and winged an egg at my car and it was a direct hit to the drivers side door...i slammed on my breaks and whipped around and tried to catch them but they got away and i had egg all over the side of my car and a small dent where the egg hit with the paint chipped away...i was very upset so i think today i will go find a witch doctor and have him put a curse on this man and request that any time he either touches and egg sees an egg or ingests an egg that he instantly poops his pants...i think that will get him back....on a side note closing in on post 519...it will be a big day
