I don't think the Carthage and BV games are good indicators for how this season is going to be for the Gusties this year.  Here is my reasoning.  In a game outside the conference, Coaching in my mind plays less of a factor because you don't know the opposing team like you know an in conference team.  It comes down to which team can make more plays and which team has more talent (most of the time).  There are a lot more question marks in those games that as a Coach it is very hard to prepare for.  On the contrary, in conference games, Hanson knows each team inside and out and most of the time he will out Coach his opponent.  Coaching when it comes to in conference games plays a much larger role as far as setting up a successful game plan.   And here is where no one does it better than Hanson.  Bar none!

The problem with your theory is that this is the fourth straight year that GAC has played Carthage. I'm sure that Coach Hanson is very familiar with the Redmen and with Bosko Djurickovic's style of ball by now.

Similarly, GAC has played Buena Vista for four years in a row now, six times all told in this decade. I don't think that Coach Hanson can plead ignorance when it comes to Brian Van Haaften and the Beavers, either.

Yeah, but does GAC's Kramer have the kevorka?

Sum - you're riding high with this new technology!   ;D Let me know once you  figured out how to enlarge photos in a post.  I've tried off & on & still mostly what you see is what you get from me.  Or as the IT guys say - WYSIWYG.

So to sum it up...Coach Hanson will get these guys in the playoffs.  He just knows how to out Coach every other Coach in the MIAC.  FACT!

if he is the best coach in the miac shouldnt he have his team prepared to win consistantly throughout the season and be able to out coach a non-conference team that is picked to finish 2nd to last in their division?

but then on the flip side who says pre season predictions are even accurate?

You are probably right.  Maybe since my season was ended all four years of my career at GAC, my opinion of Coach Hanson is a little skewed!! 8)  The glasses I look at him through are a little tinted!

I should of just posted...Hanson owns Bethel...and just left it at that. ;D

As bad as it is that the gophers lost to Montana.  Montana did make the NCAA tourney last year as a 12 seed.  They defeated 5 seeded Nevada, who I think is ranked in the teens in the nation right now.  So it's not to big of a loss for the gophs.  I think we will have to get used to them losing this year and maybe they will lose monson!  Hopefully!!

In a very early surprise of the season, the Augsburg Dawgs sprint out of the starting gates to begin 2-0 on the year.  Last night they knock off Presentation College 93-72.  Although the Auggies victories have come at the expense of the two likely cellar dwellers of the UMAC -- Presentation & Crown College, Ws have been scarce around Augsburg the last couple of years.  So if the Augsburg coaching staff is trying to instill a winning attitude by scheduling a few of the (cough) less competitive teams, so be it.  Provided, they're still not scheduling these kinds of teams once the Augsburg hoops fortunes have reversed.

A better test for these young Auggies will come on Wednesday night when they take on Bethany Lutheran.  BL, along with Northwestern College were selected to place at the top of the heap in the UMAC this season.  Then their real conference acid test takes place on Saturday when they go on their first road trip of the season & take on the Gusties in St. Peter.

Still, one of the things that impress me most about this Auggie team is the composure & play of their two freshmen – PG Jon Cassens & W Zach Krumwiede.  I've seen them play once & read the box score from last night, but here's what I've noticed – their basketball acumen & composure.  For being FY they seem to be nearly unflappable & not trying to show out to impress their teammates, coaches or fans.

For example, in two games Cassens is averaging 34 minutes pg, and an amazing 14 assists to one measly TO.  His running buddy Krumwiede is a close 2nd & is averaging 25 minutes pg, 9 assists & 1 TO.  This type of unselfish play seems to be contagious as the team has a collective 56 assists to just 24 TOs for an A/T ratio of 2.4.  That's good stuff.

Drake- From what I hear Auggie Tech has some good young players this year. I heard they got a transfer from FFCC and a solid freshman guard......could this possibly be the rebirth of Auggie basketball. ...... I'm not sold yet but I'll tell you my thoughts when I see them.

Watch - I've got a work commitment after work on Wednesday, otherwise I would go check out the new edition Tommies play at 5:45 vs the Red Birds. But since that's not going to work, that 8:00 tipoff at the Augsburg looks real tempting.  Bethany Lutheran has got a little FY Pg named Tommy Saffert who is 5-7  & is a litttle waterbug.  Could be a great match up between the two guards & teams.

Overall, I think the MIAC is going to be lot quicker conference this year.  Wait till you check out Abe Woldeslassie over at Mac - dude books!

An interesting match up tonight in Hawaii. CAR takes on Chaminade. Different year, different team but Chaminade destroyed the Johnnies by 25 last Christmas.

Speaking of which, Hawaii Pacific beat the J's by 17 last year. This year CAR takes H-Pacific to OT and loses by 3.

+k for the beautiful broads that grace your posts with their boombalaties protruding so gracefully from their bodies  :o

i believe CAR had Chaminade on the ropes 2 years ago when beste and baquero were seniors...not that it has anything to do with tonights game though

Knights lose to Chaminade 90-67.  With a 7 footer clogging the middle, the Swords beat Carlton up on the boards 42-23.

Live by the trey, die by the trey.  Bethel, however, got lucky and eeked one out over Crown 68-62 despite going 4-24 from the 3 point line.  My guess is that they discovered the big guy in the middle coming down the stretch.

That's the same Crown team that lost to Augsburg and St. Olaf by 29 and 27 points, respectively.

yikes chaminade shoots 61% in the first half and 55% in the second half 58% for the game...im guessing they got most of those points in the paint...i would like to see a shot chart

zach whiting of chaminade drops a triple double 20pts 13ast 11reb

CAR is coming home today to get ready for their game saturday

Crown out rebounds BET by 1 (33-32) but has 8 more TO's. Bet outscored crown in the paint by 8! Nites, looks like your assessment is probably right
