From Shooter:
QuoteHamline men's basketball coach Barry Wohler has hired former Gophers Zeb Howell and Cookie Holmes, as well as Lance Berwald and Jamison Rustoven, for his staff.

Old news, but am I the only one who has never heard any of these four names?

They're busting my chops at the salt mine today which is limiting my posting capabilites, but PI -- you're joking right?? ::)  ;D

Former Gopher post players who can help teach Foster, Gusaas et al the intricacies of playing in the post.  Now if Wohler can teach the guards how to make an entry pass.

Finally Monson steps down. Would have been better if he got canned though.

After attending the UST game last night, it is clear that Mike Keating is absolutely disgusting. Absolutely disgusting.  He hit a barrage of short, mid, and long jump shots.  Brian and Ike played well.   SMU came out in a zone! I don't know what they were thinking, UST picked them apart.

The big 3 were in full effect and the reserve players got a lot of time which will be important down the road.

The worst part was then the SMU guys had to sit through the girls getting stomped by 51! That would have been a fun bus ride back to Winona!

Chica yea false identification

A lot of people don't know what st. mary's is thinking, especially coming out in a zone against arguably the best shooting team in the MIAC.  Maybe Monson should come to St. Mary's and attempt to turn this program around.  With the last three games by the cards combined, they have lost by 101 points... you have got to be kidding me.

Watch, I think we are just talking semantics here! Maturi probably gave him 2 options! This was the most palatable!

The Johnnies didn't have their end bleachers open for yesterday's game so the fans were forced to sit on the sides which made it seem like alot more fans were there.

Howell: Zeb Howell attended the University of Minnesota from 1979-1983.
Holmes: Played for U from 78-82.

I was born in 1981. I wasn't much of a fan of the Gophers when I was 1/2.

The UST game wasn't all that well attended especially for a home opener.  I talked to at least a few people who couldn't come because of the early start.

New here.. Saw the Augs play last night. They are not the same team of the past few years. Have had at least five guys in double figures all three games- granted not the best competition- but still a lot more enjoyable to watch. They seem to be on the right track and may surprise a few teams this year!

My bad PI.  If you were the average, younger poster I'd understand.  But since you're a professional sports reporter & hoops fan, I was surprised you weren't familiar with these players in "fairly recent" MN sports history.  (I guess I'm showing my age :-\  ;))

Anyway, they're from the same era/team as Trent Tucker, Darryl Mitchell, Jim Dutcher & I've got to believe you know who they are - right?  Other than the Gopher teams of Bobby Jackson, Kevin Lynch, Willy Burton et al coached by Clem "the not-Gem" Haskins during the mid-late 90s,  the 1982 Big 10 Champion Gopher squad was one of the best Gopher basketball teams in the past 25 years.

I suppose it doesn't help the cause of local writers if I throw my hat in the same ring as PI then. I've never even heard those names in passing before.

Quit being old, Drake.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Thinking about checking out the UST/ Oles game on Saturday.  How bad do you think the Tommies will win.  Just wondering whether its worth my time to make the looong drive from Little Canada :)

If I were making a line like I helped do for football (sometimes, I usually forgot to help Johnnie_Esque out...), I'd put the line well into double digits. My boy funbb would put it up around 30+ I think :)

Basically, save the gas money.
