QuoteConsidering that OSU-M has ONE senior and ONE junior on the roster, and dressed only SIX players for the game (and IMO would probably lose to Cal Tech or UMPI by 20 - to choose two of d3's worst), does this tell you anything about Lincoln's sportsmanship??!!

That'd pretty much sum it up.  I wonder how many minutes its top players played.

Sumander, what impresses me about SJU is their depth.  They have at least 4 guys that can come off the bench and give some quality minutes without the team skipping a beat.

BU/Ham...

Derock was fun to watch...but I believe Madson was equally impressive.
Foster actually played a pretty level headed decent game.  He is not that bad of a player...but gets in his own way most of the time.  Hamline just needs one more player to help Derock and Thrasher...they looked worn out in the second half.
Laugen managed a great game...and dropped a quiet 20.  I have never seen Bethel struggle against a press like that.  I can only hope that it is the young season that caused the blunder.

Really looking forward to the matchup on Monday in the Robertson center.  I hope both teams bring their A game!  Also interested in seeing what happens down in Northfield as CAR opens up against the J's.

Looks like Ike flexed his muscles today...I mean athletic ability and skill
J's take care of buisness at home

Any reports from St. Peter??  How did Augsburg look??

Only 9 played on Saturday but 11 have seen extended minutes. Arguably, #6 (Fogt), #7, (Brink), #8 (Johnson) would start on a lot of other MIAC teams! Those 3 along with Veurink do give the J's real quality minutes.

Kaus has seen some minutes in the first two games he would be considered #10 or 11 with Kincaide being the other one. His play has been very ordinary.

Smith has not gone past those 11 on his bench yet. Given the games next week I am sure he won't change his pattern.

Drake, Was the big kid for BET as good as advertised? His line in the box score looked good, save for the 4 TO and 4 fouls!

I've now seen Mike Moberg play a couple of times & here's my early assessment:  He is going to be a nice player in this league, but I don't know if he'll have the same type of impact as Isaac Rosefelt over at UST.  In part because of Bethel's style of ball but given time - that may change.   Secondly, while he's heavier than Ike & uses it to his advantage, he's not overly quick or explosive.  And I'm comparing him to other posts, not wings.

Having said this, he seems to be fairly athletic, plays under control, can handle the ball (although I doubt you'll want him handling the ball out on the wing), has a nice soft, shooting touch, & is left handed to boot.  While he has some basic post moves in place, I don't get the sense he's really learned how to use his "lefthandedness" to his advantage & developed a money move to use on the block.  I'm guessing he used his superior physical size & athleticism to dominate in high school. Mike rebounds fairly well & is a decent defender, although I think the Bethel coaches might like to see him be a bit more aggressive.  From his on court demeanor he seems like a good kid & if he if continues to work on developing his post footwork & game, he could be a dominating type of player his junior/senior year.

Alex Washington, the freshman wing from SMU, had 8 offensive rebounds for the Red birds on Saturday.....wow thats pretty impressive. As Sumander already pointed out this kid can play.

The Johnnies were less than impressive in my mind Saturday, Leiser couldn't shoot, the second half D sucked and once again the Johnnies nearly collapsed. However, I think the Johnnies have matured from last year because last years team would have lost to both the Cobbers and SMU after collapses like this. I think SJU has a solid team and if they ever decide to stomp someone out its not going to be pretty.

Play some defense.

Pipe, if you are referring to the Johnnies, I would agree. They have a tendency to get complacent with a lead. They get caught standing around.

Drake, I have only watched the Schafer's the last few years but, would you equate Moberg with them at the same stage? Both of the Schafer's have developed some very effective low post moves, especially the little baby hook shot.

I will third this idea for the Johnnies. I think the only one that is actually out on the court to play defense is Brink. All the starting five are more concerned with the offensive end of the court than playing D.

Amazing post! Is PI referring to his beloved Pipers, the fun-n-gun Royals or the undefeated-but-underacheiving Johnnies? Or is he talking about my Gusties, who are allowing an un-GAC-like 48% shooting with just 28 steals in 5 games?
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Sounds like some so called top teams are having issues Willy. But, as long as you score more points than the other team you win!!

Trouble with that is, there will come a day when the whole team couldn't throw the ball in the ocean if they were standing in a boat! On that day defense will win a game for you! ;)

Woke up at 10 a.m. still "under the weather" in Kato. Get back to Hutch to find out the Pipes score 89 and still lose. Three more stops. That's all it would've took.

The run-and-gun doesn't win titles in the MIAC. UST has an incredible offense, but they also play some defense once in a while. GAC usually has the league's top defense and they win titles. The teams that don't play defense, don't finish in the top 2 or 3. That includes SJU, BET and HAM.
