Oh boy do we have a fun one tonight in St. Peter!! Two 3-0 teams duke it out for the right to chase UST all year ;D
The game tonight will rest on the shoulders of the Johnnie shooters in my mind. If they shoot the three ball well look out but if not it could end up being a big Gustie WIN!!

Willy you going to the game?

Shocker:

How is Jake Phillips over-rated.  "Kid has No range, no handles, no vision. Kid barely cracked the rotation on a team that lost its first 3 conference games last year."  But somehow led the miac in assists per game last year, led the league in 3point percentage and was 2nd in the league in 3 pointers made   3rd in the leage in assist to turnover ratio??   also led the league in minutes per game and after the first 3 games I'd say his team did all right wouldn't you.  If he is over-rated what do you think he should be doing?  Personally I don't like his game, and find it hard to watch the kid but somehow he gets it done.

Oh Redbird......I see your perception of subtlety is as strong as SMU's chances of actually doing anything this year. Yikes...if that kind of sarcasm goes over your head, I'd hate to see what you'd do if Kel was still around and you had to decipher his madness.

I'll break it down for you, to SMU-level. (Let me guess, as would be the ultimate irony, you're a communication studies major? Only they could be that oblivious. Am I right?)

Clue #1: I was obviously aware of how Carleton did in the 17 MIAC games following the 3 losses.  That's why I specifically limited my "insult" to those games. Heck, I went to at least 5 of the games, plus both Carleton playoff games. I had a vested interest in the team, and have seen "No-Handle" Phillips play pretty well. Nice guy too.

Clue #2: Hanson-bashing. Granted, I don't post as much as I once did, but anyone who's ever read this board knows me to bleed Gustie gold, and above anything else related to GAC, I hold Hanson in the highest possible esteem as a coach. Then again, he's barely won 7 out of 10 games over the last nearly 2 decades and is working on an uncharacteristically long drought from the NCAA's...... ;)

Thank God one of the Catholic schools still teaches something as SJUforlife was quick-witted enough to catch my thinly veiled sarcasm. Geez, I'd almost lost the faith.

I know it's not basketball, but there is enough significant buzz around it, I thought I'd ask.....

What are the general impressions of the possibility (unlikely??) of Barry Bonds as a Twin???

I say let's try it for a year.

Hey, I never said that Carthage was bad. I said that nobody considered them to be a contender, contra WW's assertion otherwise. What I said was 100% correct, and I stand by it.

You don't have a problem with me; you have a problem with the seven other CCIW coaches and all of the CCIW Chat types who picked the Red Men to finish sixth or lower this season.

I don't have a problem with you either. I was just amused at the hindsight.

My apologies, Mr. Mafia. I'd never hate on you. I just always thought it funny that my mom assumed "comm studies" meant "compromise studies" because the students had compromised their initial goals of med school, law school, etc. after the weed-out classes.

I will always remember the suburban Gustie gal from my freshman year who wanted to go to "doctor school" as my quintessential comm studies major. I don't think she realized that (a) George Clooney had already left ER, so she wouldn't get to meet him, or (b) ER wasn't actually "doctor school" anyway.

But hey, now they have Uncle Jesse as a replacement, so maybe the dream is back on for some doe-eyed Gustie freshman again this year.

What should Jake Phillips be doing, he is a college point guard?  He is very productive guard in the MIAC, but by no means is he great.  Fork was great (which made it easier for Phillips, he always hits the open shot, doesn't do to much creating cause he can't)  All Phillips is, is a smart, productive point guard.  Which is my point, he isn't great.

Schnettler is great.  What would Phillips do if teams prepare for him and tried to shut him down.  I don't see Carlton being anywhere close to the team they were last year, but we will see.  Teams prepare for Schnettler, and he is still a great all-around player (and has a pretty shot).  If teams guarded Phillips like they try to guard Schnettler I don't think he would be as productive, he's not that good.  I would take a lot of other guards to lead my team and you can have the over-rated Phillips.

Pipes up 66-54 15:00 left in second half.....watching it a little bit....freshman Mike Kaiser, Luke Johansen and Brad Brake getting some nice clock tonight....Chris Babcock ran into a blind pick by Sapp. Ouch.

TommieHoops4Life

According to UST's website, Tommies trail 43-31 at half. Ike had a good first half, but Keating sat with two fouls, just two points and four boards.
