Tommies learn their lesson tonight, and get a win without playing their best game. Sounds like Schnettler was on fire, 7-11 from three-land and finishes with 25. Not bad for the best shooting guard in the conference. Ike had 13 points, 15 rebounds and nine blocks! Conboy had 17, so the Scots must not have had much inside other than him. Lonnie Robinson is your X-factor tonight- 18 points and four assists. Tommies use a 32-10 run, helped by five treys by Schnettler, to pull this one out. UST gets the win, but learns that they're not invincible.

Here's the Cliff notes version of the Tommies/ Scots game.

Ugly, ugly, ugly ball game for the Tommies, beautiful execution for the Scots.  Abe W. was schooling everybody in sight & dropping 3s, dropping dimes & on occasion, dropping a little D.  Conboy was solid, & when he got the ball down low, Ike or Keating were helpless.  2G Brad Liddell is a very strong scoring threat as well & I'm sure Coach Kietzer is glad to have him back on the floor. .

None of the Tommies had a good 1st half & the biggs in particular -Keating & Rosefelt were more than abysmal.  Ike misses 2 dunks & one of them he rejected himself as he bounced the ball off the front of the rim & nearly hit himself in the head. .

In the 2nd half, the league's most overrated 2G (not) took over, & brought the ball up, got boards, dished, & score. And score? Man - did he ever! He hit threes (his highly overrated stepback 3) & by my unofficial count knocked down 4 of them in the 2nd half alone. I'm guessing he hit 6 3s in the game. BS also drove to the cup, got a steal or 2, & extended a steadying hand when the Tommies needed it most.  Game MVP.

Ike finally recovered from his disastrous 1st half & though he never had a big scoring night – he played solid D, got some key blocks & steals.  To a lesser extent, Keating recovered as welI.  But tonight, the other game MVP was Lonnie Robinson.  He was everywhere for UST -- scoring, defending, boarding, & leaking out on the fast break.

I don't know when,  but the Tommies will definitely get beat this season.  To their credit though, even when they were sending up a stink that reminded some of the old timers of the smell that used to come out of the So. St. Paul stockyards, they never quit.  The may have come out flat & underestimated the Scots, but once they realized they were in for a dogfight, they strapped it up. Talk about winning ugly – this was it. 

This very easily could have been a MAC win.  They're going to beat a team or two, or 3 or 4 etc. this season.

More to follow on this game on Thursday.  I think I've got a few tidbits Willy might enjoy.

Well good thing we don't have to worry about that. I think there are too many good teams / teams that are better than SMU for the red birds to get on a roll this year.
