Off of the concordia beat, i am very surprised by SJU's perfomance.  I didn't think they'd be such a true contender this year.  i think the schaeffers are their keys.  it doesn't seem to be this leiser character.

Not sure what rock you have been hiding under but, SJU lost 1 player off the team that finished third in the conference last year. Why would you be suprised by their perfomance this year? As far as the rest of your post, I would suggest you watch them play before making a statement like that.

being that the player they lost was paul henrichs, i expected the impact to be sizable.

i thought sju would be top 4 but i didn't expect them to be a legitimate contender alongside ust.  there's no need for the none-too-thinly veiled excitement.

furthermore, it is physically implausible that i would have spent any amount of time  under a rock.
if you didn't foul out, you weren't trying hard enough...nancies

Ah, always the agitator, on and off the court! Wonka likes, especially if it upsets the SJU and/or UST faithful :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

concordia of the north

i did not agitate on the court.  i'm sure you'll find that i was always very conversational with opponents, referees, and opposing coaches.

i did, however, occasionally yell at a teammate if i thought he was being lax.

The emergence of CON has got to make you feel better Willy!

Interesting timing though, the Cobbs are doing a rapid swoon dive on the season (0-7) & CON graces us with his presence on the board?!?  That's some tough love there Cobber!  Where's Josh Downey when you need him? Looks like the Cobb guards need more of his savvy & on-court tutelage.  ;)

By the way, your boy Linz is leading is the Cobb TO pack at 4.3 TOs/game.

he's also leading in scoring,, rebounding, minutes played, and i'm sure touches.

if you give abig post the ball 30 times a game with an opponent who knows he is the primary thrust of the offense, there will be turnovers.  the ball is in his hands, i'm sure he feels obligated to carry the load, force the issue, and make a play.  the defense knows it's going there so they swarm.  i can deal with 4 to's from a post averaging 20 pts/game.

i can't deal with it from two point guards.

...have you seen them play cobbernation?  i'm excited to get my first look when they come to the twin cities.

If that's the case, you might want to take a pass when the Cobbs come to town after the first of the year.    ;)

I am a former Piper, now coaching HS b-ball in Foley, and I was just wondering what is going on in the MIAC these days.

Who is the team to beat? UST?

Who are the top players?

Who are the top newcomers?

I have spoke to several MIAC coaches lately, they are high on a couple of our guys, but i would like an outside opinion.

Was at the Olaf/Hamline game last night, and I have a few thoughts on the Pipers. Kyle Foster isn't the most intimidating presence inside, but he made some key shots in the second half. I am much more impressed with his ability to pass. He had three or four assists from the top of the key, perfectly placed bounce passes to a baseline cutter for an easy layup. For a big man, he can dish the ball. Thrasher is a nice player and has the potential to go off for three or four straight 3's at any point in the game. Pipers led virtually the whole game, and had a double-digit lead most of the second half, so the 73-67 margin doesn't exactly tell the story. Hamline definitely seems like a team that thrives off transition play, either that or the Oles didn't do good enough at getting back on D. Pipers had a ton of layups on fast breaks. They're an athletic team, but if you force them into a halfcourt game, they might be in trouble. They like to create havoc with their press, and turn it into layups.

CON,
Yes I watched the game last night and it's hard to at times as well.  Like I said I hope they can get something together over break and come ready to play by Jan. 6th.
It's easy for teams to double team Linz on the block, because there is no consistent scoring threat on the court.  Yes, a couple of guys might hit double digits but you need to score more than 52 pts to win a conference game.

Oh yes, Josh Downey is back!  He isn't shooting 3's, he's an assitant coach!

Siverson and Whartnaby do have there hands full and it must be frustrating.  You can teach your kids to hang on to the ball and not turn it over.  But in CC case easier said than done!

PI, and now a PO  :o

The biggest question is whether with the addition of Concordia North, do we have more Mounds View grads, or Totino-Grace grads? Count One Armed Scot and Russian Mig and I think the Mustangs win.

Con. o da North: Whats wrong with your CObbs. I know its a topic of discussion but I thought you may have some insider info we don't know.
