has anyone noticed that, starting with their upcoming game versus Viterbo, Macalester has 11 consecutive home games?  could this dramatically affect the league standings?  it seems that they could find so much rhythm with a schedule like this.

The Hamline Pipers get an important non-conference win today over St. Scholastica in a game that was an awful lot closer than some had expected.

A few notes from the stat sheet.  Tony Thrasher was on fire again, this time scoring 31 points on 13-22 shooting.  This after he scored 25 against the Oles on Monday.  Do I hear Player of the Week honors forthcoming  ???

Everyone's guy they love to hate, senior post Kyle Foster, finally stepped up and played big for HU, scoring 18 points and pulling down 21, yes that's 21, rebounds :o

The Pipers managed to hit 10 three's, an uncharacteristic number for them this season.   All in all a good confidence builder for Coach Wohler's squad.

Good point. Only one problem stands in the way of the Scots this year.....that being the fact MAC sucks!! +K to COTN for allowing me to vent.

That is quite a stat line for Foster:

                         TOT-FG  3-PT         REBOUNDS
## Player Name    FG-FGA FG-FGA FT-FTA OF DE TOT PF  TP  A TO BLK S MIN
52 Kyle Foster......... *  5-12   0-0    8-10  10 11 21   4  18    3  3    3   1  31

Couple of interesting things in the box score, HAM has 19 assist, 11 TO and 13 steals. Scholastica has 11A, 18TO & 7 steals. Scholastica "lost" 31 possessions. Playing the if's and but's game.....If Scholastica converts on merely 10%  of those "lost" possessions they win the game! ;D

Hey Watch – until you actually get a chance to see for yourself the new-look Scots for 06-07, I'd ease up on the "Mac Sucks" chant.  Mark my words, (or else I'll eat them in Cyber space  ;D) they are going to put the wood to somebody before the year is over.  Conboy & Abe W. are already playing at a solid offensive level, & if Brad Liddell can ever consistently get it going, they'll be a very tough out.

As a respected poster said to me, they could be the toughest cellar dweller this league has seen in a few years.  By the way, why all this Mac hatred?  Did you ever collect on your bet & get your Mac shirt? 8) ;)

CON – on the flip side of Mac's schedule I think they play the last half of their season on the road.  I don't think the Scots will contend for a playoff spot, but with that January home cooked schedule, they could roast a few turkeys that  come waddling over to Mac, thinking they'll walk out with a cheap victory.  Beware Johnnies! (Smirk)

I realize the Scots need a new gym, but that's always been one of my favorite places to watch a game.  Talk about a home court advantage! Due to the new athletic facility construction that will begin in 07, next season the Scots' home games will be played at Cretin Derham Hall in St. Paul.  It's a good thing they might have a little buzz about their team next year, because the Cretin field house is absolutely enormous!  If the games aren't well attended, it would be the equivalent of watching the state 9-man football championship at the dome - empty!

Good to see you post Local even though, surprise, surprise, it was about the Pipes.   ;)

I'm curious to know from "who's perspective" was this game closer than expected?  When I looked at the schedule, I though this game was a "pickem" & could go in either direction, depending upon which Hamline team decided to show up.

Scholastica was one of 2 teams favored to win the UMAC this year. They beat Hamline by a fairly decisive margin last year, & had already notched up a win over the early season MIAC Cinderalla team - Augsburg.

Back to a general early season "sucki-ness" comment that Watch made -- I would say that dubious distinction would go to the Oles, followed by the Cobbs & then Hamline.  STO returned all 5 starters from last year & at least in Northfield they had high expectations for this year.  Yet, the only conference win the Oles have is against the equally sucky Cobbs & that was in OT!

Personally, I was never that high on the Cobbs to begin the season which is why I don't have them rated lower than the Oles.  All the other usual suspects – SMU, AUGS, MAC are at least showing flashes of being able to turn their season in the right direction.  Hamline?  Well, Hamline is just being Hamline.  They're still a relatvely young club, but if they're still playing this type of ball a year from now... ???

Remind me never to make a bet with him.   ;)

That's too bad.  I understand there's been a job change & some personal things that have come up since then, but the original bet was nearly a year ago last February.

From the not a good idea file:

Saw Lonnie Robinson on a skateboard on Cleveland and Grand today. Put nicely, it looked like he just got the board yesterday.

Any UST posters:
Anybody had a chance to see the JV in action? I was wondering what the posters thought of R.J Strand from Lac qui Parle Valley. The kid is a great leaper. Thoughts?

Also from the not a good idea file,

Carmelo Anthony will get a hefty suspension and fine after the melee at MSG in the knicks/nuggets game. Just when it looked like cooler heads might prevail after a flagrant foul, Anthony cold-clocks Marty Collins and runs away. What a piece of ****!. Morons like that are the very reason I don't watch the NBA, and why I won't care about the Wolves until if/when they make the playoffs. What a disgrace. If you haven't seen the brawl yet, find video of it online. I have lost what little respect I had for Anthony. You don't do that in a game, but you definitely don't do that and run away.

If we are talking about the same RJ, he's got a long way to go.  I don't think he had much coaching in the metropolis of Lac qui Parle Valley.  He's got some natural skills but from the mental part of the game, he's not there.

my favorite part about the fight is that thugish ruggish (i got a ton of street cred) carmelo punched the dude and then ran away like someone that took a bite of my tripple burger when i wasnt looking!

Announcing...Carmelo Anthony number of games suspension pool! Any takers?

I could take submissions in the pick'em section

Or I'll take an over/under bet with the line being playoffs.
