The UST-UWL game tomorrow night just got real interesting.

Ike has mono and won't be playing tomorrow night! Big blow down low for UST.  Freshy David Baker will be getting the start and Al McCoy and Sam Eicher will see time at the 5 spot for the Tommies.  Keating is going to have to play like a man child.  Look for everyone from UST crashing the boards hard to try to make up in Ike's absence.

Joe Werner is probably licking his chops.

Its too bad because this would have a great matchup of big men.

Losing Ike is a huge blow for the Tommies. If it's not through his thunderous dunks, he provides energy inside with rebounding, blocked shots and just playing with a lot of energy. He'll be missed, and Mr. Keating will now have to come up huge for the Tommies in their upcoming games.

Werner is solid inside, but also look out for Ash and Nereng. They are both solid outside shooters. Schnettler needs to go 25+, Keating needs minimum 20 and 10, and Lonnie Robinson needs to have a big night for UST to stay undefeated. Hopefully Ike can make a quick recovery and get back to playing soon.

Willy Wonka

Keating needs to step up? This just gives him the chance to show who the REAL MVP is, right Shocker?

However, this opens the door for the Tommies to be underdogs in 4 of their next 5 games. I'm not sure the schedule could be any worse for an illness that generally takes 3-5 weeks of recovery time. Maybe Koz is right and the conference race IS wide open :)

I hope Fritz lets him sit on the bench in a throwback jersey with a pick in his 'fro.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

No question in my mind that Keats will step up, he's a big tymer and this is a big game for UST.  Any time you can take down a WIAC opponent it helps in the seeding for the NCAA's.  Not to mention the fact that they all remember last year and how awful that game was.  On top of that the following day was the longest/worst practice ever!

Look for UST to come out with energy and something to prove.

yeah it hurts to lose ike

but

if UST is ranked as high as they are it isnt just because of one player...its because they are solid all around and that is all you need to be able to win...i think with it being a home game UST should still be favored in this game even without ike

WOW - that is a tough blow!  Snow or Bow  ;D , any idea when Ike contracted the mono & how long do they expect him to be out?

CMob - your assurances are comforting, but it's still going to be a little rocky for the Tommies tonight.  It would be similar to you skating down Hwy 3 to Norfield & one of the bearings & wheels pops off your skates.  Being the accomplished skater that you are, you'd still arrive, but it would just take you a little longer.  8)

I don't know many specifics with the Ike situation.

But, I'm banking on the fact that if Carelton was able to muster a win, then UST can.  It will be a matter of finding the right weapons to get the job done.  And I'm sure that the coaching staff for the Tommies is prepared for the game tonight.

I expect a lot of ball pressure on the guards/wings making post entry difficult.

And if UST can out-rebound UWL, then it should be very winnable

I think TH4L is the only known poster to have seen LAX play this year, but I think if theTommies do a decent job of denying the paint they should be ok.  Ask & Fehrenbach are their big scoring threats from the wing, but looking at the stats neither one of them can consistently beat you with their J.  They're shooting 43 & 38% overall, & a relatively cool 38 & 28% from behind the arc.

They've got a soph by the name of TJ Nereng who seems to be their best outside threat.  He's shooting at a 55% clip overall  & 58% from trey.

Snow - you ought to distract the LAX players by waving a copy of this photo from the stands:

Tomcats schedule for the next 5 weeks, 9 road games and 3 home games. Not that losing Ike at anytime would be good, but this stretch looks particularly tough with trips to CAR, BET & SJU with GAC @ home. Those 4 are arguably their toughest competition.

Even if Ike is back in 5 weeks will he be at full strength?

My guess is the Tommies would rather have him completely healthy by mid February rather than run the risk of bringing him back too soon and having a relapse!

LBOW, what would Fritz's philosophy on an "injury" like this be, err on the conservative side?

Sumander ~

Tough question.  Big man Fritze is all about wins and conference championships, then conference tourney, then NCAA's.  I know he wants to have him back asap but I hope he looks long term.  The bench post guys definitely need to step up and I think they will.

It's hard to say how long he will be out for, Ike hates sitting and watching more than anybody so as soon as he can go he will be.

I would think, given the "potential" for a deep tournament run with this  squad he might want to make sure Ike is 100% in February!

Understand wins and losses in conference are important but I think he has to look at the big picture!
