..Anybody at the game tonight with reactions about the Foster foul??

As I heard from a fairly credible source - "the call looked pretty ticky-tack to me"

But on the other hand, the Pipes were lucky to even be in the game in the first place.  Foster had the game of his career scoring 21 points & was an amazing 5-7 from the beyond the arc!  We're talking Kyle Foster, not Keith Eckhoff, or Bryan Schnettler.  :o :o ;D

I guess Brink was absolutely money down the stretch - huge, timely rebounds, hustle & buckets.  Westman had ice in his veins from deep.

Willy Wonka

No internet since Friday night (2 missed Pick'ems  >:(), so some quick hits on 2 Gustie games.

* Wohler sat in a zone the whole first half on Saturday with GAC shooting lights out from the perimeter. Van Sickle was, um, sick in dropping 20 on the Pipes.

* Wohler must have told his team it was "go for points" time at halftime. Hamline routinely made one pass and jacked up a shot. It was a pathetic performance.

* Olaf is much improved. They have some interesting pieces. I'd attribute GAC's win tonight to its close games throughout the season.

* GAC played without two starters and a top sub tonight in stealing the victory. Wittwer had a death in the family and Van Sickle rested with a sore knee. With Kramer already out, depth was a major issue as the flow was often ugly for GAC. DLo hit a huge shot with under 20 seconds to play that put the Gusties up 3 and basically sealed it. Olaf couldn't make a play in the final minute, while GAC made a handful.

* GAC is clearly established as the third best team in the league with its MIAC record. If that makes them a disappointment as some of you are suggesting, I guess I can be proud of helping create such high expectations. Nearly every other team in the league would LOVE to flop places with them.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

I am confused on why SJU is getting no respect on this board??  Not one person has tyler westman on the top 10 list??? yet so far everyone has leisure?  Not only do they both deserve it considering they are on a team thats 9-0 in the conference but westman has a better  3 point percentage and field goal percentage then leisure. Why does everyone know liesure but not westman?  Also someone had OHME on disappearing list??  The kid is averaging 10 a game with 4 assists a game running a team in first place in the conference and thats disappearing??  not everyone has to score 20 points to be a great player helping a very very good team!!!

TommieHoops4Life

How about the fact that there's no mention of the only undefeated coaches in the MIAC so far (Fritz and Smith) for COY? Are you serious?

Bleed Navy,

I would hardly consider a win at St. Mary's to be a big road victory right now. That program is in shambles and any decent team should run right over them.

As much as I'd love to take in the Tommie-Johnnie tilt this week, this has-been (never was) is sidelined with a dislocated knee from basketball Sunday night. Hopefully nothing is torn, but i HATE crutches. Instead, I'll be sipping Miller and playing Hold Em.

MM,
No I didn't turn in my UST degree for one from Carleton. I work down here for a living, so if I see more Carleton or Olaf basketball than the Tommies because of work, you're just gonna have to get over it.

Kyle Foster goes 5-7 from deep??? I guess every blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

I actually talked to two different parties that were at the game and both thought it was clearly the correct call. I was watching the webcast and it was real tough to tell from that!

th4l...being undefeated is not the only criteria for COY.  I thought about Fritz as well, but I think that with the talent level, his winning margin should be a little larger.  Maybe Smith then.

sju4life...good defense of your boys.  I guess the preseason expectation was that Ohme would be tops in pts, and other columns.  But as you point out 10 and 4 aint bad. Having not had an opportunity to see the Johnnie's yet, I'm soley relying on game summaries.  The thing I am most curious about is if he has been the leader/backbone for the team like pre-season hype thought, or has someone else?  Mr. Westman perhaps?

Now that the Pipsqueaks have been dispatched, it's time to focus on the showdown in Collegetown tomorrow night.
The bandwagon is backed into the heated garage at the Finsleft Mansion, so Catalina and Esperanza can buff it up and stock the Hamm's coolers. ETD at 5:00 CST, with one-stop service through St. Joseph. Off-bandwagon excursions are available during our St. Joseph layover.
At Finsleft Tours, we know you have choices when you travel, so if you're not on the Bandwagon, go .... yourself.

SJU4LIFE, Just my two cents, but, until Westman rounds out his game and starts playing on both ends of the floor He won't be an All MIAC pick. If your just looking for people that put up points then Conboy should be on the team as well!

SJU4Life has good points about the johnnies record and not getting credit for it.  When was the last time people started getting All-MIAC for playing good defense?  I am sure there is some players in the past who could play good defense and still score often to get that award.

Defense may win championships, but it won't get you all-MIAC.  Points get you all-MIAC.

VOJ

10-player All-Conference Team :
Rosefelt    Schnettler   Conboy   Linz   Woldeslassie    Westman   Madson   Brink   Keating    DeRock..

.Having watched many Johnnies games I have to say its Brink who consistently makes plays at both ends, Westman is one of the best shooters who has started to play D...I will not put the following players on the team because they do more crying than playing:  Zach Johnson and Tony Thrasher, especially Johnson who didn't seem to get the memo about the MIAC's emphasis on sportsmanship this year.  Oh and Wittwer is a nice player...but if I had to choose between him and Brink I would take Brink everyday and twice on Sunday.

Coach of the (Mid) Year:  Aaron Griess...what he has done in a single year is amazing...

Player of the (Mid) Year:  Schnettler...if the Tommies didn't have this guy knocking down the long ball, Rosefelt would be much easier to defend.

Sixth Man of the (Mid) Year:  Brink...like others have said he would start for others and the only reason he doesn't for the J's is because of the seniors in the lineup, but he is always on the floor at the end of the game....ALWAYS

All Fy team (pick 5 only):  Cassens...Krumwiede...Rosett...Van Sickle...Baldwin

All Defensive (pick 5 only)  Rosefelt...Brink...DeRock...Strom...Moberg

Most surprising team (let's try to keep it positive):  Augsburg...who knew they would be a playoff contender in Greiss second year...

Reg. Season Conference Winner:  SJU...everyone else is a Tommie-lover

Sleeper (not necessarily has to win the conf. but could make some noise and surprise):  Bethel...just when you thought they were done at 1-5 they are back in the playoff hunt...

PLEASE TRY TO FILL OUT THE WHOLE BALLOT.  THANKS!

I'm guessing your "sources" were wearing Johnnie red tinged glasses & were sitting on the opposite, far end of the court -- probably 80+ feet away from the call & action.

My sources were probably wearing Hamline maroon, if not Tommie purplish tinted glasses & sitting just across from the basket where the fateful call took place.  :o ;)

********************

CNation - Off the top of my head, a certain Doug Espenson from GAC made All Conference, the All Defensive team several years in a row,  plus POY.  I would bet UST's Mike Keating will be another candidate who made the All Defensive team last year, & is a candidate to earn honors in both categories this year.   GAC's Trevor Wittwer is another player I'm guessing will get serious looks for both honors.  In another year SJU's Brady Brink will probably snare both awards.  Your own Nate Ohme made the All-Defensive team several years ago etc...

J's take care of business (barely) and set up first half clash with the Tommies!

Anybody at the game tonight with reactions about the Foster foul??

My take on the Foster foul is this...all night long the officials were consistent, the J's Lieser got called for a charge when it could have been a block but was probably a charge and so when Foster ducked his shoulder he drew the call, the Hamline folks were ticked but that is the way it goes...they had a chance in overtime and didn't make it happen...

As for Foster, he was unconscious last night from 19'9"...he was 3/6 on the year coming in...and hit a couple with a hand in his face.  The Johnnies always seem to have problems matching up with the Pipers, it was great to see them win and set up the showdown with the Tommies

I hope the J's fans will be out in force...this team DESERVES the support...

This is an open board SJU4life.  if you want to include Westman in your Posters' Top 10 All Conference picks, then by all means do it.  But, if you want your votes counted with the rest of the posters, you have to complete the rest of the ballot.

VOJ, Certainly agree with you on this one! Crowds have been less than impressive thus far in C-Ville. I hope that changes tomorrow night. After all, if you can't get worked up when the Tomcats come calling, you must be dead!
