CAR beats the auggies....sutherland with another outstanding defensive performance he absolutly shut down cassins

Sutherland didn't start guarding the young freshman until the middle of the first half. It was a great coaching moving, putting the lankier sutherland on the smaller cassens. But cassens looked very tentative tonight.

im sorry im not trying to be disrespectful or question your knowledge of the game...

but

the game plan going into the game was to start sutherland on cassins and have him on him the whole game...just as they did against MAC with him on Abe...if sutherland wasnt guarding him at the start of the game who was?? cuz phillips hasnt guarded the opposing pg for the last few games now...

on your point of cassens looking tentative i think that was because he had a lanky taller and quicker player gaurding him

on a side note i thought femi got screwed by the refs with a couple bad calls that knocked him out of the game in the first minute of the second half...he kept the dawgs in the game and once he went out CAR slowly pulled away

looks like another exciting weekend....

ABE gets shutdown????  34 min, 4pts?

SJU squeaks by the CObbers, looks like Linz had himself a game.

UST abuses SMU. as predicted.

Cobbs lose another close one to the J's. It looks like the Cobbers had them all through the first half!! What happened? Linz goes for 18 in the 1st half and 4 in the second? Anyone at the game?

I think Griess is doing a great job at Augsburg. His first season they went 3-17, now they are 5-6. I think it takes a few years to really establish a program in the MIAC. I thought Pipers coach Barry Wohler was on the verge of this from last year to this.

Griess has the toughest sell of all the coaches and look at some of the guys he has got to attend Augsburg. I expect him to continue this and move him into the middle pack each year. If you're expecting Griess to do what Hanson (17th year) and Fritz (1 millionth year) right now, you're going to be disappointed.

Watch, I was there (had to drive the bandwagaon). Here is the Forum article on the game. They do a nice job of describing the action. Really it was a tale of two halves. The J's  didn't take care of the ball in the first half. They committed 11 of their 15 turnovers giving CC 17 points in the half. Inspite of a torrid shooting percentage 57%they found themselves down by 7 at the half. They had been down as much as 11. Linz was a monster. He had 18 points. The Johnnies tried S. Schafer, Brink and Kincaide on him. Brink picked up a couple of ticky tack fouls and had to sit down.

Speaking of fouls, CC was complaining in the Forum article about not getting calls down the stretch. SJU was complaining about the calls most of the game. While I applauded the crew that did the Wednesday game (SJU v. UST). I would have to say this crew was very inconsistent! Makes it tough for the players on both sides when that happens.

The second half the J's took care of the ball. Linz was not quite as hot as in the first half. Tyler Westman hit 3's on three consecutive trips around the 12:00 minute mark that sparked the Johnnies. I have been critical of Westman earlier in the year. This was probably his most complete game. He worked hard on both ends of the floor. When he gets in a zone on the offensive end he is deadly from anywhere.

For the game there were 8 ties and 13 lead changes. It was exciting basketball. Once again the J's made their FT down the stretch and that sealed the game.

I feel bad for CORD. I watched them take both the Johnnies and the Tommies to the wire on consecutive Saturdays and come away with two more L's. If they ever figure out how to win games they are going to be tough.

Speaking of winning games, IMO, last year had the J's fallen behind the Tommies late in the game and been down to the Cobbs like they were, they would have lost both games. I don't know if you would attribute it to senior leadership or what, but the J's seemed to have figured out what they need to do to win these close games! Now if they would just figure out how to put lesser teams away, I wouldn't have anything to bitch about! ;D

Kootsikas started the game guarding cassens. During the first 5 minutes koots was guarding him, cassens had a three and two assists. Then the switch.

Femi was able to nuetralize the inside play of the knights and this is where the auggies depth becomes limited. But...  the rotation at the end of the half left several suspects on the floor at a critical point where the auggies were only down by one. A 5 - 1 run with only one started on the floor left the auggies with a 6 point deficit at half.

No knock on griese. He's great for auggie basketball and he has the potential to turn a program around. I'm just curious on whether the other miac schools suffered similar growth pains with a coach as they rebuilt.

The auggies have looked very flat lately and their confidence is shaken. To be expected with a young group. Can griese turn them around? He's done very well so far with this group but we're only half way home and they have an outside shot at the playoffs.

Keys to success:
get cassens better looks - everyone in the league is aware of him.
improve defense - you can't give up 90+ points a game in the miac
get krumster involved in the offense - last 6 miac games he's averaged 5 ppg / 22 min per game. Compared to the first 3 miac games 14 ppg / 32 min per game
rotation - sparked early in the year by kozlowski / olson off the bench hitting threes - this has been missing the last couple of games.

Thanks Sum, sounds like the Johnnies really escaped that one!

cassens 1 three in the first half came in a scramble when he was wide open...kootsikas started on Graf and then gaurded Krumweide when he came in the game...maybe you saw them switch a pic or maybe your just confused i dont know what it is...the only time kootsikas was on him was when sutherland was on the bench and CAR has their scheduled substitution sheet that they live by...the first time sutherland came out of the game was around the 12 minute mark...i dont even know why im wasting my time writing about this

A strong second to your thoughts on the new GAC announcer. Hard to listen to. He was no better on the football broadcasts.  :-[ Our only hope is the Kepner's contract with KRBI is up soon and the new station with the broadcast rights can hire him away.

I know it's a long drive to St. Mary's, Sumander, but the keys are in the ashtray if you want to drive the bandwagon. Or maybe you should Google "bandwagon rentals", and fly down and just pick up a rental at the Winona International Airport.
I sure am happy that we don't have to complain about our announcer. Football or basketball, the Big Lebowski is as good as they get.

Fins- What are you talking about? You're closer than Sum I believe.....why don't you just make the drive. I'm sure your boss would let you take the morning off tomorrow!! ;)

Fins, Appreciate the offer. Maybe next year! I won't be making the trip to Winona. I will try to listen on the net . I can pick up up the Big Lebowski on the radio in my truck if I park out by the WE Fest grounds! ;D

i bought a carleton bandwagon last year...it is only one year old and holds up to 200 people...it has 2 built in kegerators and cup holders along with a bar...there is also a lounge with a white couch for rick james to rub his dirty shoes on

i will rent it to you for the remainder of the season in exchange for a slinky, an oral-b toothbrush, 1 hammer, and a free ride on the SJU bandwagon at anytime i would decide to jump on during the remainder of the season

Watchmen- Wish I could go to see the beautiful bluffs of Winona, but I can't. Already have an excused absence from my benevolent and caring boss as I am going to have a Bethel grad perform sinus surgery on me tomorrow morning. Hate to go into that smelling like an old Hamm's can. :o

C-mob- I think we may be able to work out a deal. The one bandwagon is starting to get over-booked and we'll need more space. Yours sounds schweet.
