Pat Coleman,

Mr. Sager, the answer to your question is no.  She was a Big Ten standout.

Ahhh, DM, I do believe Mr. Sager was making a rather clever tongue in cheek comment regarding Handel's Messiah in response to your spelling of the word handles.

Nites -and that's why Mr. Sager is a HOFer (D3 hoops Hall of Famer).  Some of his humor I don't even get .   ;D

You beat me to the punch but I'd noticed his post earlier. I was going to post something to effect of how Greg is a true renaissance man. Within the span of an hour, he made a classical & pop musical reference on two different hoops message boards.  In addition to the Handel post on our board, he made a reference to the musician Prince, on his home board, the CCIW board.

Quote from: AndOne on February 15, 2007, 03:54:16 AMA highlight of the evening actually occured in the JV game. With Elmhurst leading by 2  and the time remaining almost zero, NCC guard Dean Prince launched an approx 60 footer. The ball left Dean's hands about half a second before the horn, which sounded as the ball was in the air. The long bomb found nothing but net to give the Cards a victory over Coach Dan "Digger" Doyle's Jays.

I saw in the box that Dean Prince got 16 minutes of varsity tick tonight as well for NCC, while Barringer got his first DNP of the season. Is Barringer hurt, or is Raridon just shaking things up amongst his guard cadre?

It's nice to see Prince finally start to get some varsity minutes. He must've purified himself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka.

Yes, I do believe we should give him his due as a true renaissance man.  I'm thinking that he must sit at his computer with a massive stereo sound system playing constantly . . . .

And if all this basketball news & events isn't enough check this out:  If the Ts & Js or any other MIAC game isn't enough for you on Saturday, #1 ranked & undefeated DII Winona State is taking on a very tough Concordia U. - St. Paul Saturday night in St. Paul.  The first time these two teams met, Winona eked out an OT win.  Interestingly enough, while browsing one of the other D3 message boards, I came across this Winona State clip that some of you dunk aficionados might appreciate.

Winona State

Drake - Nice clip!  That'd be big John Smith throwing it down. CUSP is tough.  They handed 12th ranked UM Mankato one of its 3 losses.

I like the Gusties in both. Wittwer needs to step up now for his team and I think he will. Carleton is just not a great baskletball team this year.

Agreed, but neither is the wildly inconsistent GAC.

I'm officially pulling for SJU on Saturday

Hell hath frozen over!  :D

Good luck J's. Sumander the bandwagon is all set with extra folding chairs I borrowed from church. Bring the hardware home!

Watch - If I could dunk, I think that would be the type of power dunk I'd have in my dreams!  I've watched that clip about 8 times & here are a couple of things I noticed.  One, the kid getting dunked on turns his back on Smith.  Two, the force of Smith's dunk causes the opponent to fall to the floor.  And then for the briefest of seconds, Smith glowers down at him, & then turns around & heads up court!  That's a bad man!  ;D

WeRFans – nice pick up on the burger review.  I've been to Bulldog's sister restaurant on Lyndale in So. Minneapolis, but for the money I'd still take the "Kitchen Sink" burger at the Town Talk Diner on Lake & Minnehaha in Mpls.  There's a serious burger!

Fins - I've noticed this about Wonka – if his team is not in the mix, he's always pulling for the underdog, although in this case I don't know if the Johnnies are quite underdogs.  Last fall in the football clash at C-Ville, he was openly pulling for Bethel.  ;)

DunkMachine,

We're in the heart of the best part of the college basketball season, and the best thing you can think of to talk about is bashing women's basketball?! As much as you hate women's sports, NOBODY CARES! (in my best barreiro voice). There are a lot better things to talk about on this board than the value, or in your belief, lack there of, in women's sports. If you want to argue about it, do it somewhere else. The MIAC playoffs are approaching, and some great games/matchups will garner much speculation over the next week, so I'd rather not read about how much you hate women's hoops or athletics for that matter.

How do the Gusties lose at Gus Young to St. Olaf????? That place is darn near impossible to win at. UST couldn't do it.

Drake,

It won't be an in depth piece, but I will be calling the SID's today to figure that little tidbit out.

As much as you all want the Johnnies to win at UST Saturday, it's not gonna happen. They beat up on an already dismantled Hamline squad on their home court, so don't get too excited about it. I'd love to see Hopkins play Hamline right now, I'd probably put my money on the Royals. As much as I want to head to Schoenecker on Saturday and watch Ike dunk on the Schafers and see Schnettler rain 3s from everywhere, this guy gets to go to the Xcel Energy Center and cover the state danceline competition, how lucky am I. That clip of the Winona State dunk was monstrous. Now that's a badooka dunk! I love how the defender turned his back and then got crushed anyway.

sumander

Did I miss it or has someone mentioned the nice article on Schnettler in the around the nation section of D3hoops! I believe I would pay good money to watch Schnettler and Steve Sir in a shooting contest. Ironically enough, it was one year ago this weekend I ran into Mr. Sir and his NAU teammates in the Phoenix airport!

TH4L- Thank you for pointing out the obvious about the women's bball issue :)...As far as the Gusties losing to the Oles- The Oles have been tough all year long and have had competed with every team ranked above them very well-barring STU(who are very good)-- Oles split w/ carl and bethel, lost by 1 to StJ after leading the whole game, and beat gustavus at their place, and lost to gustavus by 3 at home---don't count the Oles out for some late-season heroics!

d3bballfollower

with Schnettler and Sir getting all this attention for their great shooting, I think it is best to point out that the top 2 shooters in the country statistically, and by that I mean each over 100 3's and 49%, are from Minnesota...Schnettler from Sartell and then Sir, originally from Canada spent most of his high school career at Cretin Derham Hall...this is a great individual accompishment for both players, but I think it is also a great accompishment for Minnesota basketball to show that we can play with anyone, or at least shoot with anyone in the country
